La Liga 2013-2014

Atletico to go top, the good guy version of man city. How to reach the top and overtake two colossal clubs....................without spending 600 million.

Levante turned in the kind of performance I expected to see last night from Betis

So next up come two teams with different kinds of great expectations featuring a number of shopping opportunities.

Courtois, Juanfran, Godín, Miranda, Filipe, Gabi, Koke, Arda, Raúl García, Villa y Diego Costa.
Vs
Beto, Coke, Fazio, Pareja, Navarro, Iborra, Carriço, Rakitic, Vitolo, Alberto Moreno y Bacca.

I must admit Koke Vs Coke made me smile, shame it wasn't Pepsi.

Atletico winning la liga would be the greatest footballing achievement in recent times. Anybody who doesn't support the big 2 in Spain should want them to do it.

You do realize they are in massive debt partly down to massive overspending and mismanagement in the past.

And that they've only got the players they've got now by doing some part ownership deals and getting a very gentle 10 year period to pay their tax bill. It's all relative really.

The horrible irony of FFP as applied to Spain is that only Madrid and Barca are clearly playing fair according to its rules

Everyone's in debt in Spain... And I'm specifically referring to their recent revival which has been done whilst selling top players.

Using players they're effectively borrowing from the Mendes/Kenyon group.

It's been terrific to see them come through and turn the big two into a real big three. Simeone has been wonderful. Their youth team coaches (and their goalkeeping coach!) have been brilliant over the last few years. But just because their sugar daddy lends them money/players, rather than gives to them, it doesn't make them morally superior.

It most definitely makes them morally superior when the majority of their PRESENT team is made up of frees/bargain buys and academy players.

If I was an Atletico fan right now, my smugness over Real Madrid would cause me to implode.

This is the biggest test of Atletico's mettle, can they respond here now and win this...

Do Atletico have a phobia of going top? Every time they get a chance whether on goal difference or by actual points they either match or do worse than Barca.

Ref let Atletico get away with murder in that sequence. 3 or 4 late tackles then he sends Moreno off. Atletico have bottled this.

I think Real will win the league after those two draws - just one point behind with their squad, I think they'll go on and win it. Hope not though, much prefer Atletico and Barca.

And Costa is such a cnut

Bloody hell, how often do we see this in La Liga. One of the leaders slips, another knowing that the "must get 3 points" has dropped to 95% instead of 100% slips themself. People who argue the other clubs of La Liga don't compete are missing the point - they compete, but this past few years they've competed with teams so fixated on staying in the race that their consistency and concentration seldom fails.
