Tankovic is starting for Fulham? I liked the look of him in their reserves. Will need to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't have a good start
Yup, he scored a hattrick in the reserves recently. He's not a really tall guy though so he might struggle up top on his own, in his first start.

"wayne rooney, juan mata, and ruud van nistelrooy. the new holy trinity?" - Richard Keys

Formations are one thing and mentality quite another, let's hope that if we do secure a lead the team doesn't start sitting back all too unnecessarily.

Rene has taken a huge risk playing a young striker but might work. He'll go for it all the time and our midfield/defence can be troubled by a paper cup so he could get some chances

Just saw Fulham teamsheet and it already looks like they are preparing for Championship football . It will be interesting to see how Tunneclife performs in the holding role for Fulham. His energy and aggression might cause Carrick some problems who performs better when not closed down aggressively.

The worry is that's exactly what we're doing!...good players left that is

Young is playing. Janusaij and/or Kagawa are on the bench. That doesn't constitute playing all the good players.

Play all the good players. If only to dispel the notion that they can't all play together. But either way, play them. Play ALL the good players!

This Fulham line up is absolute shite. We'll win comfortably. Maybe even play well.

Phelen is pretty good as a pundit to be fair... Sitting next to Carragher doesn't do him any harm though

Was tongue in cheek Mocks!

Ah, my first mains matchday thread. I trust you're all like newbies, level headed and calm no matter what kind of game you're watching? One of the reasons still miss that place.

I see it as a 4-2-3-1, personally:

De Gea

Rafael - Smalling - Vidic - Evra

Carrick - Fletcher

Mata - Rooney - Young

van Persie

There's no way that Mata is playing as a conventional winger today.

I think people are too stressed up about numbers on a paper. In reality they will all have totally different positions depending on the situation. When we're attacking the positions will look something like this:

De Gea
Smalling Vidic

Fletcher Carrick
Rafael Mata Evra
Rooney Young
Van persie

Young and Evra work well together and will probably provide a lot of space for Mata on the left central midfield. It could happen that Rooney will take that side because he likes cutting in from that side. Van Persie could be forced to play a bit wider because of Heitinga who is a really tough defender and will probably be up for the game to mark Van Persie out of the game. Defender Dan Burn will effectively take care of all aerial challanges.
And of course Mata won't play as a conventional winger. He won't even track back or anything in this game. He will be the link between the midfield and the box. Players like Fletcher, Young, Evra and Carrick will do the dirty job while Rooney and Mata will try to get into position together with Robin.

My biggest fear for this match is their left side with Riise and Richardson who could find a lot of space behind Rafael and perhaps find some combo with Holtby, who on his day is a very effective attacking forward. Also a player like Tunncliffe will be up for a game like this. A very heavy player together with another heavy and rough player in sidwell could cause some problems.

All in all we're up against a physical team that has some speed and intelligence.

That Fulham side.........

I mean fair play to Rene for giving some of those Fulham players a kick up the arse and bringing in some youth but doing it at Old Trafford, not exactly wise.

Moyes has a chance to set a positive record? Most consecutive wins against the same team (10)

Phelan asked about Rooney and staying and being captain.

Phelan mentions money first thing.

Conclusion: Phelan is saying Rooney is greedy and is in it for the dough
