Crystal Palace vs. Manchester United

Saw this on Twitter:

"If David Moyes is tactically outdone by Tony Pulis, I will cry so bad, not even a wank will help"

 Things have really got bad for some of us United fans...

If we have to grind out a win against Crystal Palace then we are in trouble.
You didn't think we were in trouble before?

Anyway, can't see anything but another shite game here to be honest. People seem to be under the impression we'll turn good over night, I don't think we will. Hoping we can build on the defensive stability shown in the previous game though. Rio deserves to start.

It seems like there's a broad opinon that this formation suits the players we have more than the 4-4-2 we've tried. The fact RvP, Nani and even Young (though probably not Valencia) would also suit this formation gives it weight.

I really long to at least see it in action once - if only to see with my own eyes that its not right.

Sadly what we're more likely to see is
De Gea
Rafael---Smalling---Jones---Evra
Valencia Fletcher---Carrick Mata-
Rooney
RvP

Yeah, that tends to be the formation I go for in my fantasy line-ups in these threads when I bother to post pre-match, but I usually end with a pessimistic prediction of Young and Valencia actually starting in a rigid 4-4-2

With two weeks off we could potentially see some changes in terms of injured players returning and with the UCL game coming-up, but outside of Mata I'm not sure we'll see much in the way of players to suit a different way of play, though the potential is obviously there.

I can see us fielding a largely second string side, with the main players being left for the champions league match a few days after. At least that is what I hope we do. If we lose in the league it really doesn’t mean much at this point, so we might as well be fully prepared for the champions league match.

I don't think Moyes will be taking any chances with this game. He will play a strong side, also bare in mind that our last game will have been 10 days previous, plus our next game after Olympiakos is not until the 8th March (Away to West Brom)

They'd better bloody win. I have to stay up until 4:30am to watch this.

Ditto.

Most likely, but I wouldn't like to see a full strength team going into this game. The league is basically meaningless to us right now, beyond playing for pride now. So I would prefer us to focus on the one competition that still matters. Though I'm sure moyes views it differently considering he knows each lose brings his sacking closer.

We're already going to have to make 1 big change for the CL game, and that is obviously Mata not being able to play in the match. I really do hope that Kagawa can play his way into our team for the remainder of the season, even when he has a bad game he is still able to create something.

Please, let us play both Januzaj and Mata in the same starting 11. I'd like to see Rio and Vida at the back unless Jones is fit.

Any news on Fellaini?

I wonder when we'll see an 11 without any changes from the previous week. It's been a long time coming.

I expect Mata and Januzaj to start as I can't see Januzaj starting in Greece.

You'd also hope that Kagawa can get some game time, hoping that he is the player to replace Mata on Tuesday. Most likely it will be Young and/or Valencia occupying one/both of the wide positions though.

Kagawa will come in for Mata midweek, can't see him featuring against Palace. Moyes has used him well in Europe so far.

...and it's Europe where we've actually looked like a good team. I'm not saying he is the cause of us struggling, but he is clearly not he problem.

I may regret this, but i'd really like to see Fellaini in this match. He desperately needs a good run of form and surely away against palace would be a good start. Plus he is a good player to play against a Pulis team

Me too. It's high time he gets fit and starts contributing to the cause.

My choice XI -

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Evans Evra
Carrick Fellaini
Mata Rooney Januzaj
Van Persie
We should win this 3-0.

i just hope this trip away has had a positive effect and the players come back not only refreshed but with some kind of plan as to how they're going to play for the rest of the season. not too bothered about the results now in the league its more important to see us establishing a style that suits our personnel, 442 cannot be the future when you look at the quantity of no.10s we have and a new system has to be intorduced and worked on in games now and through to the end of the season.
if we play 442 with mata and young wide i think i might cry

Palace will be no push over, since taking over Pulis has got them really well drilled and they've picked up a lot of points under him, i hate saying this but i wouldn't be surprised if we lost

Under Pulis they have yet to take a single point from anyone in the top half of the table, they've been doing better but not *that* well.

Somewhat bizarrely, i feel like we have played better football away from home, so im relatively optimistic

To be fair, they've played Arsenal, Spurs, City and Chelsea away from home - of which they couldn't be expected to win any, and so only lost to Newcastle at home... a game they'd probably win if played now.

In short, they've been doing very well indeed.

We need to build on the performance against Arsenal where we tried to play proper football. No more 80+ crosses please. Would like to see both Fellaini and Kagawa atleast on the bench.

GuJB

Id like to see
Degayer
Rafael
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra
Fellaini
Jones
Januzaj
Kagawa
Mata
Rooney

Yeah I know, fat chance of Valencia and Young both not starting, but maybe Moyes will save them for Tuesday.

If we can draw vs Fulham then we can lose/draw to Palace. Palace have been good under Pulis. There are a few worse clubs in the league than Palace in my opinion. But I still expect us to beat them.

We're needing now our best XI in every game for the rest of the season

1-2 changes are okay........but not 4-5 in every game

I know we've a injury-prone squad and Mata can't play in the Champions League

But De Gea - Rafael, Jones, Vidic, Evra - X, Carrick; Januzaj, Rooney, Mata - Van Persie should be our starting XI in 80% of games now

It's a resurgent palace team with a siege mentality, a purpose, something to play for v a team whose season is over, captain leaving, sure whats another defeat mentality. Think it will be a defeat tbh or a score draw if individuals have "moments" on our side.

Another Moyes abomination against a club like this cannot be tolerated.

Well it all depends how you want to spin things doesnt it?
