----------Carrick---Fletcher------
---Kagawa---Rooney----Januzaj--
---------------Van Persie----------

That is assuming Rafael is fit. I could also see us playing Cleverley instead of Kagawa with Rooney on the left and Januzaj on the right of a front three. Just please no Valencia or Young.

In Moyes we trust to play Cleverley, Wellback & Young.

Kagawa has been pretty good in Europe, hoping to see him in for Mata tonight.

Moyes needs to stop rotating and find his best team.

Agreed on both points. We're out of both domestic cups so we don't have as many fixtures as we would usually, no harm in trying to keep some continuity and get players to gel in preparation for the run-in.

Danny can be productive from a left sided role, however it would smack of two defensive wingers being employed were both he and Valencia to start IMO.

I'd sooner he learned how to rotate effectively so as to properly manage the resources of a large squad. For instance whilst he might be regretting having turned his back on Rio or Vidic this season, three games in a row might represent overkill too much football.

Well, rotation is one thing, but I meant more so finding the spine of his team and sticking to it, he seems to change things around completely game after game and it's never looked like we've had a spine or a set of key figures.

I think we'll line-up with our front six being Carrick - Cleverley - Valencia - Welbeck - Rooney - RVP.

Welbeck I have no qualms with, he was brilliant in the knock out tie last year, and I feel European games are really tough tactical battles, and he seems to be the type of player capable of carrying out a real tactical plan, so I'm fine. Valencia hasn't really done much to warrant a spot, I wouldn't mind throwing Adnan in the mix, see if he can rise to the challenge. Kagawa I'd be really glad to see line up as well.

This is what I want to see so desperately but it is 250% certain that either Young or Valencia will start and probably both.

My preferred choice too. Fingers crossed.

If he doesn't start you can be sure that he's going in the summer. Young has been getting the nod in the Prem, but deary me Young is a very limited player. If he not only plays Young again, but goes back to 4-4-2 to accomodate him over Kagawa, that has to be curtains for him.

Who, Kagawa or Moyes ;)

Agreed, I just don't think he'll trust both Januzaj and Kagawa to do their defensive duties, particularly as Evra has been wobbly this season and Moyes doesn't seem to rate Rafael.

1 of Young or Valencia are cert to start in this imo. Away game and all.

------------------------ De Gea -------------------------

--Smalling ------- Jones---------Vidic-----------Evra--

-Valencia ---- Fellaini - - Carrick - - Cleverley -Young

---------------------- Welbeck --------------------------

I doubt this team will happen but I can dream. They would outwork just about any team in world football, they would be so tough to break down. And still, on the counter you have the threat of Welbeck, Young and Fellaini.

The 1st game was played in a storm and the pitch ended up waterlogged. It was just a game of hit and hope for 90 minutes. The 2nd game, Olympiakos keeper put on a masterclass.

You believe that Benfica should have beaten them on both occasions then?

That is true, injuries have been an excuse some of the time but not enough to explain away all of the defensive alterations or the sudden dropping of Fletch/Kagawa some weeks ago.

No doubt people on here will moan if Welbeck is selected, but his pace is perfect for games when you want to transition from defence into attack quickly.

United should be going into this game to at the very least get a score draw, preferably a win. A 0-0 draw would make for very nervy time at OT.

In years gone by I would of nearly preferred to lose 3-2 away in these kind of games as opposed to drawing 0-0 as I always fancied United to win a game at home when they needed. I also got the impression that Uniteds formation at home (after drawing away 0-0 in first leg) was more cautious and left less room for error. Whereas when you lose you first leg away, its a far easier mental preparation for the home leg, win or go out . .

Think it was Monaco CL game at OT in the 90s that made me this way! Also, Real Madrid 0-0 at Bernabeau 2000 was the worst thing that could of happened to united. For some reason at this time a draw away from home made things more nervy at OT (sort of a stick or twist scenario).

I think a 0-0 at home in first leg is easier for the team playing away in the second leg when you get to the later stages of the CL. As the quality of opposition has increased to the point where most teams are capable of nicking an away goal against any team and in the 2nd leg it doesn't give you much time to recover.

The Palace win and Rooney contract were a big confidence boost. Utd to win comfortably tonight.

Utd to win 0-3 if Rio & Vidic are both at CB. 1-3 if not.

We should also expect Giggs to play a part tonight. He's only 3 games off Raul's record.

^ Okay then, we'll have to agree to disagree as there's not a great deal of middle ground between our viewpoints.

you know I would take a 2-1 or even a 3-2 defeat here tonight.
Olympiakos will be tough tonight, unbeaten so far this season in their league and with a +69 g/d and 20 points clear, they are clearly a team on form.
Despite saying I would take a narrow defeat, I think we can get a decent result.

No way. Olympiacos will only be tough because of the atmosphere but individual wise, they lost something like their 4 best players during the group stages or they are out injured... We really should win this. Any loss and our confidence shoots all the way down and we'll struggle to pick ourselves up again.
