Olympiakos vs. Manchester United

Defensive wingers, and attacking full backs? You young 'uns are strange.

Its just a term. Cmon.

The word got my message across rather than me having to say that playing Young there means he'd be more focused on protecting Evra and whipping crosses in from wide areas rather than Kagawa who'd be more positive, roam about and get involved centrally.

Why focus on the word and not what the point is?

Think I might start a Quote and Shame thread if we play well and win. "Supporters" shouldn't be allowed to get away with such insulting criticism of our pre-match team.

Or just get a life instead?

So it's OK if we play shit and lose? If we do in fact play well and win it will be the exception to the rule. We've all seen this team play before and often it has been dire stuff. People are just calling it as they see it; it's hardly over the top.

So why change the style from one that was successful and showed much better football? Use same system to get the players in the right groove. Hes being defensive and going for the draw.

One of val or young I would have been fine with but both just makes us too two dimensional. Its one thing setting up for the counter attack, but we havent been able to do a decent counter all season, we have been far too slow and val cant make a decision

Much like pointlessly rotating the squad (SAF at least seemed to have a method for rotating players), we have to also rotate our tactics. So the opposition don't know what we're going to do.

My point was that we can't because Moyes refuses to play him. I didn't expect him to start and don't expect him to see the pitch. It would be dumb to start him after not playing him since around October. We are now limited to Young and Valencia in Europe because Moyes won't play Kagawa at all, he won't play Januzaj in Europe, and God knows what Nani is doing. I'm sure Olympiakos, Bayern, and Madrid are all shaking at the thought of those two.
We're playing Young and Valencia because they will track back and it's a tough away tie in a knockout competition 0-0 or 1-1 will do a job tonight. Kagawa hasn't played in a month because he's been shite, we've signed Mata, we've had Rooney and Januzaj as options.

I don't see the problem with this team at all.

Moyes is essentially doing exactly what Ferguson would do in this situation. Draw your away games, win your home and you're in the final.

Young and Valencia have been better than Kagawa this season. That's not to say all three have under achieved.

Young and Valencia have been useless yet that doesn't keep them out of the lineup.

Nani and Kagawa would track back as much as Young. He doesnt do it more than the others

Apart from Moyes is not Ferguson and our home form this season has been nothing short of shocking.

Search your feelings Bestie you know it makes sense to keep it tight here.

With a bit of luck we'll keep it tight and maybe score a goal, hopefully not concede too many and we will have a twitchy arse second leg back at Old Trafford

My prediction:

1-1 tonight.

2-2 Old Trafford.

Which centre back do you want on the bench? Jones and Evans are injured. If Ferdinand or Vidic get injured Smalling will go to centre back and Valencia to right back. Do people just like moaning for the sake of it or something?
Yes

To everyone complaining about the first eleven, some of these changes are enforced. Mata is cup tied, Rafael is injured so Smalling has to play right back and Fellaini probably is not fit enough to start this match after one games in 3 months. I am also not that fussed that Kagawa is not starting as he's had a very average season. Only disappointment is the lack of Januzaj because he has been our best winger/wide player this season.

Doubt we will play 4-4-2. Rooney will be dropping deeper and other than Valencia not coming as central as Mata, I think the set up will be similar to Palace away.

I was excited about this game. Then I saw Young, Valencia and Cleverley on the team sheet. I haven't been so let down since the time I opened my valentine card, only to discover it was from my Mum.

Is Javier Saviola injured? He's their top scorer, so it's certainly a plus that he's out.

I also didn't realise Vladimir Weiss had left them in January. So that none of their starting 11 I know now. So by that logic, they're shit, and we'll stuff them.

Valencia's played double the minutes of the other 2 and has got chance after chance. Kagawa hasnt had the same number of opportunities. What's surprising is that he actually has been good in the CL and tonight's a CL tie.

In 90% of the cases there is a natural CB on the bench just in case something happens. If some of the senior players are not available we should put in young one.

why stop at Valencia, let's put Carrick at CB and Rooney in midfield like against Stoke...

I could have lived with one of Valencia or Young back in, both is hair tearingly annoying.

Kagawa was hardly played how could he have enough minutes to prove himself ?
He's started more than 10 games and has yet to have a goal or assist to his name. If he was as good as is made out he would get chances. Moyes has had no qualms dropping Young or Valencia for Mata so these excuses made for Kagawa don't wash.

i don't think so.

we should do all right tonight... we have never lost to them before (4 victories)

I know Moyes has broken a lot of these runs against lesser teams, but he has been all right in UCL... lets hope he can keep it up, despite this starting 11.

We're a lost cause if Moyes can't even pick a team without asking Fergie what he's supposed to do.

Well thats, not what I said.

Just that Ferguson is obviously going to be the one informing Moyes in regards to this, because he's had no experience in the competition.

Every team selection this season has supported that.

If we manage to fluke the Champions League will Moyes still pick Young and Valencia for the final 1st XI?
