Manchester United vs. Liverpool

There's no way Liverpool are winning the league this year. Not happening at all.
You're right and I think most Liverpool fans think it too but we're gonna enjoy the ride while there is still hope. It's Chelsea's to throw away.

I would take a draw this weekend. I have a bad feeling but I had the same bad feeling before the 4-0 v Everton, the 0-5 v Spurs and the 5-1 v Arsenal so I'm taking some hope from that.

What I don't get though is the assumption that we will revert to being shit again next year. You guys will certainly improve but there is absolutely nothing to suggest that we will hit a wall and stop improving. We have a young team with a young manager, playing exciting football and scoring goals for fun. It's not as if half of them are nearing the end of their career and will need replaced anytime soon.

While I would take a draw a win would have us flying with our next 2 being Cardiff & Sunderland.

The good news is that Liverpool will NOT lift the prem trophy this season. So I'm not bothered at all by a little drooling here and there, even on the caf.

As for the match itself, let's see who's fit. The massive decision for Moyes is whether to play both Wayne and Robin. It's never gelled, has it?

Go with Adnan. Tomfoolery not to.

Pessimist! In the days when we were winning everything around, if we were in the position we're in now all of our supporters would be confident that we'd win the league. Mentalities have changed so much. I think half of our supporters just don't want to be let down, the other half are saying it's on.

A change in mentality is surely inevitable/advisable after so much disappointment for so long. If I was a Liverpool fan, I wouldn't be building my hopes up too much and I'd just be trying to enjoy the ride.

May as well build our hopes up. Whatever happens, this season will be a success regardless of whether we win the league. The goal was top 4. It's all but reached.

For once, I think it'll be a comfortable victory for Liverpool. But we'll probably go and lose now.

I think you're seriously underestimating us if you think you're going to come to OT and beat us 'comfortably'.

It's understandable to an extent given relative form and league positions, but still smacks of overconfidence to me.

Hopefully we're going to be hearing a large collective 'Pop!' come 2:15 on Sunday afternoon, as thousands of Liverpudlian bubbles start to burst. :D

I mean, for years United have been far better than Liverpool, and i've *never* gone to Anfield thinking we're going to win comfortably. This game isn't like that.

Well yeah, that's exactly why I said I'd just be enjoying the experience. I think Liverpool will finish above Arsenal but I can see Chelsea and City moving away as a pair quite soon. The game on Sunday will hopefully be the start of that!

Don't understand this train of thought at all.

Look at it this way. I want us to win, more than anything I want us to win but just as importantly I don't want to lose. A draw at Old Trafford in a game where form goes out the window and we've been stung by late winners against the run of play (Ferdinand, Cantona) would allow us to maintain an unbeaten run ahead of games against Cardiff & Sunderland, both of which we would expect to win. It's not defeatist, just a fear of losing.

For once in the season, I want to see the lineup from the last game. And the same one the next game, too, bringing Welbeck/Kagawa on for Mata instead.

Our players might be tired, yes. But this is our most important run of games in a year - can the players not pull off one for the team? Two massive massive games in 3 days after a one week break?

Rest them against West Ham if you need to, just don't leave your best players on the bench for when it matters the most.

I wouldn't. We need to win as many as possible and keep our momentum going for as long as possible if we want the title.
Like I said a draw is fine. We win, I'm firmly on board. It will end any hope of Spurs and united to even think of catching us and would put us one of the teams with a very good chance of catching Chelsea. A draw would cement us of at least fourth. A loss makes me nervous.

Not really. The likes of Everton, Spurs and West Brom have done so already this season.

I see your point, but this isn't the Manchester United of recent years. If we're aiming for the title, then realistically we need to be winning this game.

Jesus Christ....Are you saying Chelsea and City will have a monumental collapse? And Arsenal won't keep on challenging?

You have no hope of the league! Be happy in the knowledge of the fact you will finish 3rd or 4th. A massive achievement for you this season. Build on it next season!...If you think you're going for the league, you will be left very very disappointed

Liverpool have a game in hand. If they win that they'll be 4 pts off the top. It won't take a monumental collapse

I Know some don't want to admit it and I hate it but Liverpool have a chance of winning the title. I don't think they will but they're 3rd favourites in my opinion.

Nah...They'll fall away from any title challenge. It gives them good experience and a good mindset for next year though. But they will fall away from a title challenge this year. They'll finish 3rd I reckon

7 points with a game in hand a with both coming to Anfield wouldn't be monumental at all.

Spot on. And make no mistake, we are aiming for the title.

If City lose to Barca, both LFC and MCFC will essentially have the same number of matches left - and I know of those two who I'd pick to get more points.

And that ignores Chelsea, who are obviously top at present.

Next year will be a lot more interesting. LFC will have played a dozen less matches than the other title challengers, and that will undoubtedly have helped them this year. Won't be the case next season.

Of what exactly ?
You've already claimed title of most deluded set of fans in seasons past, is there a different title you are actually capable of.
Ps change your location it's borderline cringeworthy watching you put yourself through this.

My location is sarcastic. I don't think we'll win the league (Chelsea will) but I think we'll push til the end.

We are second with 10 games to play, a game in hand and Chelsea and City to come to Anfield. Think about that and then look at what you've just said.

To be fair you've been making worst predictions than Liverpool winning the league all year gasmanc.

Who do we play on the left? Every other position picks itself.

Kagawa is too risky since neither he nor Mata can take players on so we need a bit of pace also defensively he does track back and press but he doesn't get stuck into challenges.

Januzaj is too inexperienced, not on that great form he was and has been a defensive liability.

That therefore leaves Young and Welbeck. I don't want to play the former but then Welbeck doesn't perform anywhere near as well out wide as he does as the striker. That said, he would be my preference but Moyes will choose Young for his crossing ability. Young will put in a defensive shift but won't offer much going forward other than an uncommon long shot goal although he might occupy some good positions to get onto the end of Mata's crosses.

I think Welebck on the left. He was fantastic against them at home last season playing a mixed role between striker and left wing and he put in a man of the match display. I think it wil be something similar.

Aldo: Time for Reds to prove Man United are a fading force

Of all the quotes attributed to Alex Ferguson over the years, the one about Liverpool FCand their perch is the one which always annoyed me the most.

Well, while it is too early to suggest a win for the Reds at Old Trafford on Saturday would knock Manchester United off their perch, there is no question that the roles have been reversed this season.

What an incentive for Brendan Rodgers and his side, to go up the M62 and make a real statement that we are back, and we are a force to be reckoned with.

This time last year, United were disappearing over the hill. They were going for the title, while we were playing for pride, unable to even secure a Europa League place.

The turnaround since has been remarkable. Victory on Saturday would put us 14 points ahead of them with a game in hand. That’s an absolutely massive change in less than 12 months.

Make no mistake, there are tough times ahead for United. I wouldn’t risk writing them off just yet, but there is a huge amount of work to be done at that club, and it will take them some time to get back to anywhere near where they have been for the last 20 years.

I won’t lie, it’s nice to be able to look down the league table at them for a change. We’ve spent long enough looking up at them, after all. But football is cyclical, and nothing lasts forever. Liverpool know that better than anyone.

Ferguson had to leave United some time, and he has left a massive job to his successor.

David Moyes is a good manager, that is proven, but he has struggled to get to grips with the size of the job he was left. I have no personal issue with him, but as a Liverpool supporter I hope those struggles continue.

The key change, for me, with United is the loss of that fear factor, that they had held for so long.

Under Ferguson, the trip to Old Trafford was like visiting the gallows. Teams went there expecting to get beaten. United often didn’t have to play that well to win games.

Not any more. Ferguson has gone, the standard five added minutes are gone, the stoppage-time goals are going in at the other end, the breaks are going against them.

They’ve still got good players, but teams are going there thinking they can compete, that they have a chance of getting something from the game.

Everton, West Brom, Swansea, even Fulham, have all provided a blueprint of how to get a result at Old Trafford. And none of them are as good as Liverpool.

The key for the Reds is bold decisions, on and off the field. This game is different as for once it is us with something to lose besides pride, but if we go there in a positive mood, we will get our rewards, without question.

And maybe, if we do win, then Brendan might just make a quip about knocking United off their perch!

Allen has to start

A LOT of debate will centre on the type of team Brendan Rodgers will pick at Old Trafford, I am sure.

For me, I think Joe Allen will start, and I can see exactly why, as well.

You need grafters when you go to places like Old Trafford, and a midfield of Allen, Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard is full of graft.

United struggle in central midfield, it is well documented, so I would make that part of the field as strong as possible.

If that means leaving Philippe Coutinho on the bench, then so be it. I think Raheem Sterling has to start, and Coutinho has looked a little jaded in the last couple of games.

Mind you, it’s not a bad option to have to bring off the bench, is it?

I hate Aldridge!!....Typical big mouth scouser!!

He's a gobshite. Remember when he played for Ireland in the world cup and ended up ranting at the fourth official? Aldridge can feck off.

Never could like him....I remember he scored and he celebrated in front of Fernando Couto's face. He's a twat of the highest order.

Yet another example as to why I hate them

"Victory on Saturday would put us 14 points ahead of them with a game in hand."

The match is on Sunday. They would not have a game in hand.

I expect Aldridge to spout shite and would normally resist commenting on it, but that's just thick.

He might be referring to Chelsea. If he is, it's poorly worded.
