Journalists criticising Moyes already:

Carrick at CB? Are we really missing that many CBs?

Yep. I think Rio is the only other fit CB, but he can't play three in a week so he's being saved for City most likely.

Was the Blackburn debacle the last time Jones and Carrick were at centre half? Carroll will fancy his chances today.

Is it me or do we have this problem every single fecking season?

Not sure why we do. Carrick ends up doing this at some point each year. It's wrong.

That defense...

Positively surprised to see Kagawa, Mata and Rooney in the same lineup. Would have preferred Januzaj over Young though...

That is probably as good as a team that we can put out now, I also expect Kagawa and Mata to interchage positions a lot in this game.

Annoying that we have no fit CBs, been a huge problem this season. Really hoping next season we can get Jones and Smalling in the team for ten games in a row or something. Other than that team is ok, really need a ton of movement out of rooney today. Resting Welbz says he's got a big role to play in coming weeks

Smart move getting buttner some playing time imo. If he's god awful hopefully jones will be fit and we can play him left back, but maybe he'll be ok

Not so good at the back . . . but surely a Kagawa/Mata/Rooney combination going forward is *exactly* the type of thing some people have wanted to see?

No matter how many CBs we get, we'll still have to play Carrick/Fletcher at CB at least once a season. Its just one of those things.

I'm not sure he can really be blamed for the lineup. Should have included Rio on the bench though. What happens if Carrick or Jones gets injured? :nervous:

Not sure why people are feeling negative. Rooney up top, kagawa and mata playing, Rafael there, young to give us pace on the other side. Nani on the bench as well to come on for young later.
Nobody can say a front 4 of Rooney, with mata, kagawa and nani behind isn't exciting, and we might see it. Think we'll score like 4 today. Only question is how many will they score. Mata to get his first, same with kagawa.

Jesus, and people try to claim we don't have to add to our CBs. Vidić and Rio are goners, that leaves Jones, Smalling and Evans who are always injured and probably Keane from the youth.

Buttner being anywhere near a football pitch? Ogden's certainly exaggerating.

With Evra playing most games and being suspended for the first leg of the semi final, not that surprising to see Buttner start this. Evra'll return for the City game.

Well - Buttner isn't that bad - and he is not exactly up against Ribery or Robben....this time

Five? More like two (either Kagawa or Mata, and Carrick).

Agreed. It'd appear that journalists (at least some) want to stick the knife in as and when.

This season? More like every season.

Why a club like ours ends up playing midfielders as centre halves every year is beyond me it really is

I don't understand the Young over Welbeck choice though. The only thing Young did against Olympiakos was kick the ball into space for 10 minutes. If you put Mata, Welbeck, Kagawa, and Rooney up top, they can all interchange and move around. Young, hypothetically, could do that but he's not nearly as versatile as the others.

Should be an interesting game at least. Some line up for a man under pressure.

Gutted for Danny. Deserved a start after his performance on Wednesday.
