Manchester United v Aston Villa

As crap as we are at the moment, this can't be anything other than a win. 3-1.

Really?

After each humiliating home performance against supposedly rubbish teams this year, this couldn't possibly be 'anything other than a win'?

If he doesn't rest everyone who'll play against Bayern, he deserves to be sacked on the spot.

Imagine if De Gea gets injured? :nervous:

I know, I've had a hard time adjusting. I even thought we'd scrape a win vs City!

A game that at any other time for decades now you'd be expecting a routine 3 points for us. These days anything can happen so a win or a crushing defeat would not surprise me. In other words I've no idea but if we play like we did against City and Liverpool there is not a team in the PL that could not come to ours and get a win. Everyone smells blood.

Surely he couldn't survive us getting dicked at home by Villa? Surely?? :wenger:

If anyone is going to the game tomorrow and they see this supposed plane with the anti-Moyes banner fly over OT, take a picture and post it on this thread or the post-match thread.

It'll take more than a loss to Villa to see him off. The club won't send a manager-less side out to face the evil Boche.

Giggs, player, manager, saviour!

Easy tiger! What happens if De Gea, or anyone for that matter, gets injured in the 1st 10 mins against Bayern, or in training?

It'll just gives Moyes another opportunity to bemoan his awful luck.

Got to leave out players for Bayern.. Can't say I'm too bothered about this result as long as the lads who come in put in a decent performance. Our home form is nothing short of dire, so I'd like to see a positive team of mainly fringe players to just go out and express themselves in the right way. My team for Bayern Munich would include de Gea, Rooney, Giggs, Welbeck, Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher, Rafael, Vidic, Jones, and probably Buttner. So, with that in mind, I'd like to see this side play Villa:

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Jones Evra
Cleverley Fellaini
Nani Mata Kagawa
Hernandez
--
Lindegaard; Buttner; Carrick, Young, Januzaj; Rooney, Welbeck

If Smalling is fit, I'd play him against Bayern and start Vidic here. Hoping Nani can get some game-time and make the bench mid-week. Was hoping we could get Januzaj back in the team as well, but the system of three no.10's hasn't really worked out for us like I thought it would and I want to see Kagawa play. In an ideal world, we'd get Buttner on in the second half to get a bit more sharp for the Bayern game (if he has to play there) and Young/Januzaj to replace Nani/Kagawa (both of whom I hope make the bench on Tuesday).

We're in a position where the only important games are in Europe - so the focus just has to be that. I don't think we will win this game by the four or five goals it would take to give us any kind confidence / moral boost before the Bayern game (and I honestly believe that starting the lads who haven't played as much gives us just as good a chance to win).

I'm torn between us finishing 7th and really attacking the top four with less distractions next season (which has obviously benefited Liverpool and Everton) or finishing 5th or 6th and having the additional points from the European competition. I'm not sure how it'd work out exactly, as in how far we'd need to get in the Europa League for it to make a huge difference, but being out of Europe for one season will effect our seeding for five seasons if we were to get back into the Champions League the year after. That's obviously something we'd want to avoid, but if it requires us to field strong teams and get far for minimal points increase then I can't say I'd miss it too much. Either way, got to just play all our cards against Bayern and hope for that 'miracle' that cup competitions seem to provide nearly every season!

As for Villa, I just can't even think about this game as I'm more bothered about Bayern (if you didn't guess already), but going for 2-0 United. Mata and Hernandez.

Normally I'd expect a routine win, even with Moyes. It's the type of game we've actually been doing pretty well in. Saying that though, we have Bayern on tuesday, and the crushing defeat against City might have finally crushed the spirits of our players where they just gave up hope against decent teams. Atmosphere will probably be very flat, and who knows what kind of impact the whole banner shit will have. Can't be a good one though.
Also who knows what type of lineup we'll see. Will Moyes rest some key players for Bayern? Will he just try to get whatever win he can and take it 1 game at a time? We'll see tomorrow I guess.

Am I the only fan really enjoying the build up to the matches against Villa and Bayern? The whole furore over banners and Moyes future has me excited about a United game since we were drawn against Real last year.

Mata to get his first goal. He needs to start showing what he's capable of.

Our matchgoing fans should start to voice their discontent. Something along the lines of "Great players, poor manager" or "players in, Moyes out" would hardly demoralize the squad, but would definitely get the message across.

Not because of the football spectacle, but I am intrigued how would the fans in the stadium react to:
a. Moyes, after the City humiliation and the nonsense in the papers and by Moyes about how Fergie left behind shambles and he would have struggled as well.
b. The plane carrying the banner, if that happens.

We won the league with this fixture last year. Hopefully we can do that again today. I've booked the next two days off work for the celebrations

When can we expect to see the plane over the stadium...3-0 United keeping in line with the whole one step forward two steps back theme this season, we will take a step forward today and about ten steps back against Munich.

I see disaster. These are players who at the best of times have struggled with nerves and confidence at home who have a lunch time kick off fresh after reading the morning papers where their own manager has effectively said they're rubbish and the squad needs rebuilding. Whatever happens I doubt we'll be brimming with confidence.

You may well be. I'm a season ticket holder, but one who passes the tickets to friends etc for 1/2 the season. And I have to say after the last 2 league games, I'm glad I'm not back up today!

Will he be brave enough to rest Rooney for this one is the main question for me?

I would, as he'll need to be super fresh for Bayern, but can Moyes afford another duff result today?

I really hope we come out and smash Villa today. Some of the stuff going on about Moyes at the moment is atrocious.

Like the comment about how Fergie would have struggled this year?
Oh wait that was from Moyes! :p

Can see us losing this.

Aston Villa are normally decent for an upset away.

Actually, not sure its an upset anymore, so United to win 2-0 tthen.

Fellaini and Mata to score (i hope), Rooney will play well and I have had a great Saturday so far please United finish this day on a high for me.

Any chance of this brig delayed? M60 and M56 are stand still at the moment

Much like the West Ham game we may well see a decent performance, to which Moyes will think "this will never do" and make sure he changes everything for next week.

Our way of late is to play a crap team and win and for everyone to say a corner has been turned and then to face someone decent and get f**ked. 2-0 win today and then a comfortable defeat in midweek.
