La Liga 2013-2014

Cheers jojojo and Pippa :)

There's always drama. Still though, I can definitely see why Alexis is frustrated - his goals are a big reason why they're still in the title race, or at least were up until recently, and yet he gets dropped every important match for players that are clearly out of form. Doesn't excuse the petulance but I'd be looking for a move if I was him.

I thought Tata was gone at the end of the season anyway?

Seems crazy that Atletico are in such a good position, really hope they don't run out of steam as it would be one hell of an achievement.

They just need to win 4 of the next 5 assuming Real win all their remaining games. I think Atletico have got this.

If they pull this off it will be among the biggest achievements in football in a long, long time.

I hope they slip and Real win it. Just don't like Atletico.

Looks a near certainty, yeah. So maybe it is premature to suggest he should leave actually. I think he's not appreciated as much as he should be at Barcelona though.

Out of interest, any reason for this?

I struggle to find one.

You know when you have no justification for something but you just don't like it.

I like Costa but that's it, I don't think they play great football and it's a one season wonder.

 yeah I know what you mean.

it's a one season wonder.

They ran a close race last season and won the Copa Del Rey. The season before that they won the Europa League, they're not really a one season wonder at all. This is their third season of continuous improvement.

They just said that Atletico's wage bill is lower than that of Fulham!

Its annoying to think that finally after a long time barca are kinda struggling and we are ahead of them and looking like the better team and of course bloody atletico have to suddenly start playing well in the league after who knows how long and are above us. How dare they

Diego Costa back! If that had been one of our players they would have been out for several weeks!

Call me bitter but as soon as Ronnie went there I hoped he'd win as little as possible there.

You won't be struggling with reasons really to want Atletico to win it. I just very much dislike both Real and Barca for numerous reasons...

My favourite wages comparison this season is that Dortmund's wage bill is lowers than QPR's.

Well, he actually said that Atletico's wage bill was lower than both that of Fulham and QPR. I do remember QPR trying everything they could to buy themselves to safety, so I'd expect them to have a few players on far too high wages. But Fulham, I can't remember one good players they've got. Not one.

A video that's gone viral in Spain, the "Real Madrid dog"
For the easily amused with half a minute to spare. :D

You need the sound on.

How the hell did Diego Costa get back so quickly! That injury from the last game was gruesome

The Premier League should take a leaf from La Liga and move around fixtures to accommodate teams playing in the CL knockouts.

This is the first time it has ever happened. A Spanish league game moved on a Friday, to accommodate a club playing in the CL. It's the first time in the past decade at least.

If elche score, I think atletico could get very nervous. This is a new situation for them and they might not like the pressure

Real aren't playing at all this weekend right? It isn't just for Atletico.

What about postponing a game completely? As far as I know, the FA offered both Madrid teams not to play this weekend, however Atletico decided to play their game.

Yes, and this is the first time it has ever happened. 2 years ago, for example, there was a crucial Clasico sandwiched between the CL semis. Barcelona had to play Chelsea on Wed, Real Madrid on Sat and then Chelsea again on Tuesday.

Barcelona's game against Espanyol this season was moved to a Friday ahead of their CL match against Milan.

Spanish teams are always taken care of before their Champions League games. Not often on a Friday but never a Sunday, they can't complain about the treatment they receive.

Barcelona played Espanyol on a Friday night before they played Milan back in November.

They played on Saturdays before the Man City games. For as long as I can remember, Spanish teams have been playing on Saturdays right before CL games. This season is a slight exception for some reason.

The group that tend to get the harshest treatment are when a Europa team come up against a CL one. I've seen them schedule a Europa team to play Saturday (after a Thursday away game) to accommodate a club playing the following Tuesday.

It was Bilbao against Barcelona two years back. They played Schalke away (won 2-4) on a Thursday, and had to play Barcelona on Saturday. Barcelona won that game 2-0 with an excellent Iniesta goal and a Messi penalty. Bilbao were amazingly very good in that game.
