I'm not convinced by Van Gaal either, I just think we need someone younger to build a team.

That being said, apart from the unrealistic Klopp. I don't know who I'd have!

Not really the same thing. Van Gaal's antics have actively damaged his success at clubs, which wasn't the case with Ferguson.
 
Netherlands have Spain in the group and likely playing against Brazil in the round of 16, that's a good draw for us :)

I think that's exactly what we need. Our club is full of past it stars, players who'll never been good enough and current stars way too comfortable in their position. Van Gaal is the exact kind of manager who won't stand for such mediocrity.

If nothing else, we'll play the most exciting football we have in years with Van Gaal in charge.

I think they are equally terrifying in the dressing room. I don't see how that's a worry as it's, seemingly, necessary to get this volatile mess back in shape. If you want the manager to be in charge of the dressing room he's a very good choice. No doubt people will bring out some clashes with players and tell me he's a bad man manager, but same thing could be said and done with regards to Sir Alex. One or two examples aren't going to convince me he's a bad man manager.

Sir Alex had success later on which makes it a different matter. He was still rash towards the media, banning them if they messed about. How AVB fell out with the media but he, like anyone else being picked on, lost the dressing room which snowballed into media picking on him.
Moyes got an easy ride despite not having won anything. I fail to see how titles here affects media's view on van Gaal as an argument.

Going on the job he did at Barca, Stoichkov and Rivaldo hated him. He left the Barca job saying "Barcelona isn't half a big a club as people in Catalonia would leave you to believe" and told the press "I'm leaving, congratulations"

Just some occassions when SAF's personal vendetta's and confrontational personality harmed the club. Sir Alex wasn't perfect.

LVG loves RVP.......so the conundrum Fergie couldn't solve(made Rooney want to leave) and Moyes had even less clue about(made RVP want to leave) just continues.

Jesus, I'm not saying he's perfect. I'm saying that his management style never prevented him being a consistently successful manager. Whereas it has for Van Gaal.

If you think Fergie getting rid of a few players is the same as Van Gaal's history then there isn't much to say.

Exactly. I don't want a manager to pander to either of them, its useless. Get in a 'neutral' and they'll have to deal with it

But surely if he gets the job he cant do any worse.

Also if not him, And Klopp seems impossible too. Then who?

Roberto Martinez actually seems one of the more realistic bets at this moment

Fergie never let his ego control what he did or how he acted. Fergie was confrontational when protecting his team and the club. Fergie was manipulative and cynical with his handling of media and fans as well.
Van Gaal's ego is an asset and a problem.
In the end however if we are playing exciting football and winning most fans will see past his arrogance

You said SAF's hasn't actively damaged his success at his clubs. Pretty clearly it has seen as we might not even have had the Glazers if he hadn't fallen out with McManus/Magnier. Not to mention it took us years to recover from selling Stam.

He does, but I can't see the club getting another Everton manager in. It would be ridiculous.

For all the concerns I share with many here, I can't help but become excited when thinking of him trying to repair our football, which.. he will try to do as a priority, I'm very excited to see what he could do with the attacking talent of RVP, Kagawa, Welbeck, Mata, Rooney, Januzaj etc, see how he tries to mould them into a team.
Carragher on sunday calling Mata a monday to friday player was particuarly irksome, Moyes didn't have the ability to make optimal use of that type of talent, LvG does, above all I just want to see United playing football again.

I agree. I think for instant stability he would be a good. But he has a history of being a cnut

But I still think a candidate for the long term would be better (Klopp would be perfect but not possible it seems)

You need to give yourself a fecking shake and have some respect. Ferguson actively damaged success at United. Unbelievable.

Ferguson was about as perfect a manager as we could have asked for, Van Gaal isn't in the same league.

He's a massive cnut and usually a very slow starter. It will take at least a few months until you see a positive effect on the team. The fact that he can't start the job until after the worldcup makes it even worse. He's 100% focused on the nationalteam now. No time to learn anything about his new club. It's a huge disadvantage. Who's going to plan the pre-season, transfers and all that? Better be prepared to hear all that 'have to get to know the team first before I make decisions' stuff again.

Months? That sounds electric by our recent standards!

Yeah, apart from his actual football style, there seems to be a lot to be wary about with regads to Van Haal.

As important as it was to sack Moyes, it would be a mistake to think that this will solve things. We have to make a good appointment otherwise it's not going to get much better.

Klopp or Simeone would be my preference over Van Gaal but he's still a good pick if neither are available.

Manchester United does not have the open training sessions Bayern has. The Bayern fans in the first years were really surprised about the new style training sessions...

If you want to have a longterm success things like this need to be. At Bayern they paid out after a very short time.

I do not know if the Caf will hate him - but there would be very controversial oppinions and heavy discussions starting with the choice of players etc. The ones that want changes and like a special playing style, that like it when somebody promotes youth will love him. The ones that need that superstar including superstar treatment will hate him. The ones that expect success from the first minute will hate him, too.

But if he gets time - he will need 2 or 3 years to fully get his plans through - the time he had at Ajax and Alkmaar but not at Bayern - he will have built something for a future. You need somebody like him to be able to form that. If not Manchester United does it - it will be Tottenham and all will look greedy to Tottenham the next years...

At Alkmaar he wanted to quit and lay down his job in 2008 - but the players and organization and fans persuaded him to go on - and in the next year they won the league!

There is nobody with such an eye for young players - even the odd ones - like he has. He will find that jewel and promote it and take care of it if it is there. You can be sure about that. And nobody that can built up a new structure and a new playing style like he does. He has flaws - but some of his flaws just have to be. Sometimes being diplomatic might only help on the short run but only makes bad things worse...

I understand and whole-heartedly agree on Sir Alex doing it , for what he believed, was best for the club. In order to steady things, getting rid of bad habits within the squad and so on, he had to be confrontational and rash otherwise he'd lose the dressing room. Once he had won the club and the city over, an acceptance of his nature arose. But how many in and around the club enjoyed Sir Alex's methods before he reached that point of acceptance?

We are at a similar junction right now. We need someone who wants to take charge with a clear vision and the balls to restructure this mess we are in. Not many will like it, but should it become a successful method....what will be the argument against his appointment then?

There's not a manager in football who doesn't come with downsides. Mourinho's a cnut and Guardiola's never managed a squad as poor as ours or so unsuited to his style of football. There's no perfect appointment out there, but there are a lot of appointments better than Moyes.
