United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

If any crazy old puffy red cheeked person is going to take over then it has to be ferguson.
They're not all the same of course. If Van Haal successfully brings more technical and progressive football to United it will benefit us long term IMO.

As a British person I of course love it when clubs have a British core, I've been brought up that way I love seeing British lads getting a go.

Is anyone slightly worried that with it looking like LvG will take over, with him being our non-british manager, that we will lose that tradition we have always had of retaining a decent British core?

This generations lot are starting to break in IE Welbeck, Cleverley, Smalling, Jones, Powell etc but what about other than them?

I hope we don't go down the City/Arsenal Route.

Starting XI of 1 Englishman and 10 Imports or something.

Thoughts? What is Van Gaals record with homegrown players wherever he has managed?

LVG won the Champion's League with an 80% of Ajax Home Grown Products

Kluivert, Van Der Sar, Litmanen, Bogarde, Seedorf, Davids, Overmars, De Boer x 2, Danny Blind, Hoekstra, Babangida, many more

He trust youth alright

LVG comes from an Ajax background where the infrastructure of the club and the playing style is paramount. If he was to take on the job of rebuilding the first team, but also ensuring the infrastructure was sustainable I think he would love that. It would be a fitting end to his career. Maybe he could do for us what Cruyff did for Barca.

I don't really want him as our manager unless we couldn't get Klopp after fully going for him. It would be a shame if we didn't try and at least get a guy who's age and style would be perfect. Van Gaal plays good too but his age and potential pandering to RVP put me off a bit.

Will we go after Klopp in the same way like we went after Fabregas the whole summer and finally end up with Tony Pulis?

Pulis wouldn't be so bad. He could give Rooney one of his hats.

I quite like Pulis:nervous:

But i imagine there is a list of good managers who want this job now. Its accepted the squad needs an overhauland can't do worse. But Klopp should be number 1 target. Then we go for Van Gaal

I would love Klopp here. He will go mental on the touchline if we play like how we did this year and against Everton.

The Mail are running with van Gaal as our first option (and that we are confident of landing him) in the confirmation story of Moyes' sacking.

United are confident of landing Holland coach Louis van Gaal as his replacement once they have tied up details of the manager's severance package.

The Barclays Premier League champions have already made contact with the Dutchman and he wants to join United after the World Cup.

Pulis would probably be doing as well as Moyes right now anyway...
I mean, he couldn't do worse could he? Jesus, he's made Palace a premier league side, let's see Moyes do that

next season on coach swap

No he just can fall out with players and be abrasive to the media.
Yeah but does he deal with it well. Fergie could often fall out with players but he handled it well. Same with the media. He spoke a lot of crap sometimes but it never affected the team.

We certainly don't want a guy turning us into a circus ala Madrid in the past.

Not sure about maintaining a British core but what he does do is not care about reputation or age and his motto is directly in line with United's philosophy: if you're good enough, you're old enough.

He has a great eye for talent and firmly believes in looking at the youth system first, before going out and buy. He was the one who promoted Kroos, Badstuber and Alaba and went to a CL final with them. His Ajax team was also full of youth products and young players.

Isn't that the same thing? :D
The guy seems completely enamoured with himself..
Some of the press clips you see have him looking particuarly argumentative for arguements sake... even from a Dutchman... which is saying something !

The thing with van Gaal is: that everyone who has worked with himfind him to have the most brilliant football mind around and an amazing passion. Mourinho, van Buyten, Robben, Ronald de Boer and even those who hated him grudgingly praised his tactics and preparations...

The question mark is his confrontational and arrogant ways that will come as a huge culture shock for England. How will it pan out? We could be winning the treble and playing beautiful football in a couple of years or it could be all over in 1 or 2 years because of his untenable position regarding the social aspect of things....

If Klopp is not available I'd take the punt.

One thing is for sure, it won't be boring and we will be aspiring to play good football.

My serious worry about this guy is his potential pandering to RVP. We just went from a guy pandering to Rooney to a guy who could do the same to another player who is over 30 now. I fear he won't give Welbeck/Hernandez a chance

I don't understand why people are afraid of his confrontational nature. Need I remind you of Sir Alex and how demanding he was?

It's pretty much nailed on isn't it. 2 year deal seems sensible. All the best Lou.

Looks like he'll be our man. Do we want the guy to do well at the WC..or have a stinker so he comes back early?

The fear factor will certainly be back, LVG is probably more terrifying than SAF. But does he have the man management skills of SAF where he keeps every player happy, even if they aren't in the team?

He has a World Cup to negotiate before even meeting the players, if they get to the latter stages we might not see him until end of July, what then of transfer targets? Another season of "assessing the squad" which means the Glaziers wouldn't need to open the "war chest" and hope Van Gaals superior manager skills compared to Moyes will get us back in the top 4 again?

Ferguson had success, the media couldn't get on his back too much,
LvG is coming in having won nothing here (yet), his abrassive personality could easily be something the press pick up on,
One of the reasons of AVB's unsuccessful spells here, fell out with the press, didn't know how to handle them... argued with them etc, you could potentially see it happening again with LvG.

What alot of Dutch people love to say about van Gaal: as a trainer he is brilliant, as a human he is a bastard.

Oh well, Mourinho did say as a trainer he'd rate him a 10 and as a human an 11.
