Title change maybe?
I mean, he has the choice of Tottenham or Manchester United, I wouldn't worry about him opting for the former. The kind of temperament this guy has I could imagine him coming out with some quote saying "The best coach in the world does not need to wait for offers and Manchester United have missed their opportunity, I will be moving to a club that values the worlds best"
Sky sources understand we've held positive talks with van Gaal.
And bloody sensible too, after the Moyes debacle.Cool. So why are some people saying we're messing him about etc?
Is this just because we've said we're considering other candidates? That's just normal surely.
Can't help but feel we are being led up the garden path on this....I.e "the short list".
Club got flack for the lack of process last time and they seem to be going to great lengths to emphasise "other candidates". It's van Gaal...and it has been since day one.
We are considering other candidates after he got his nutsack out again in the interview.

I'd go along with this. I don't doubt Ancelotti would be our preferred choice to take over, but we know full well we're not going to wait til the end of Madrid's season to try prise him away when there's such a feint chance we'll be successful. I expect we'll confirm Van Gaal appointment before their season ends. Can't help but feel we are being led up the garden path on this....I.e "the short list".

Hmm, that's not quite how I remember it but I could be wrong. Certainly they thrashed a couple of bottom-of-the-table doormats, and that gave them a somewhat misleading goalscoring return. But their standard set-up was one which prioritised defensive solidity, and was efficient and clinical in attack rather than actually aggressive or entertaining. They definitely struggled to score against the better sides.
Again, don't get me wrong - I'd be very happy with him. He's just a slight second-favourite behind Van Gaal, for me.
Ancelotti is a great coach but the prospect of him joining doesn't excite me nearly as much as van Gaal. The job needs a big, domineering, perhaps slightly eccentric personality. You need balls to manage Manchester United, no pun intended. I also wonder whether Ancelotti isn't better suited to roles such as Chelsea and Madrid where the idea is the manager is solely first team coach and where he can just get on with it free from distractions and other responsibilities that may be required of him at United. We know that Moyes was in the middle of rebooting everything from the youth set-up to the scouting in his own image (Lord help us!) and I'm not sure whether Ancelotti's personality would be one that would devour that prospect.
van Gaal on the other hand is someone who I can see really getting his teeth into all of that.
I don't know why ancelotti as our manager simply doesn't interest. And again, no, it's not his sexbrows. Maybe it's because his teams are effective but a bit like him, lack personality?

Put it this way... I was amazed to realise the other day that he had 2 full seasons in charge of Chelsea. I thought he'd had like 8 months or something.
Very good manager, no doubt, but not one that makes a big impression. On me, anyway.
I kind of hope LVG turns any and all situations into a reason to whip his ballsack out.
"What do you want with your Big Mac mister Van Gaal?"
"Are you doubting I have the balls for a Big Mac Meal?"
"Uhm...No sir."
"You are doubting I have the balls. Here, here are my balls."
*Slaps them on the counter*
...
"Will you please leave sir?"
If the talk about him being really transfer averse is true, I can see it being a thorn in these discussions. We're sure to need signings this summer and with the disaster that was this season, I dont think the board are willing to give him a year to look at players from within.
There's a new video of some Dutch reporter explaining the van Gaal situation on the de telegraaf website if anyone speaks Dutch
This is the video I suppose:
http://www.telegraaf.nl/tv/telesport/fox/22561940/__United_worstelt_met_wensen_Van_Gaal__.html
Basically they are saying Manchester United and LVG are close (or have come) to an agreement on personel terms (like the wage etc) but a deal is on hold because they have some problems working out LVG additional terms, more precisely the staff he wants to bring with him. They are saying he has atleast 5 new people he wants to bring with him (like Kluivert, but also a couple of other like a video analyst, goalkeeper coach etc) and that United want the class of 92 to be involved in some kind of way. This feeling that the class of 92 (Giggs, Scholes, P.Neville and Butt) need to be involved in the coaching staff has been fuelled by the great result versus Norwich and the expectations are that if United win the remaining games under Giggs they will want him (and some of the others) in the coaching staff, which is a problem because LVG wants to bring his own staff. They say it maybay a minor detail that could worked out in the coming days but it depends on the willingness of LVG to lower his demands or on the club to give up its wish of involving the class 92. They say the club could be worried about the technical implications of an entire new coaching staff and that the problem right now is a dicussion about finding the ideal mix of a coaching staff. They also say that this is a similar kind of problem Van Gaal had with Liverpool, they also wanted him as a coach but the deal didn't materialse because they couldn't come to an agreement on the coaching staff.
Great job, thanks!
I think LVG should be able to bring in his own staff. if he wants to keep Giggs - great. If he doesn't then him getting experience elsewhere when he retires won't kill him. Don't see the fuss about the others though. Scholes has only been there for one match and Neville only came back with Moyes. IF we're insisting they're involved it's absurd.

It'd be absurd if our 'deal breaker' is keeping coaches in place who didn't even have the job this time last week.
I'm bored so thought I'd do a 'mock' interview. His CV over that last 15 years:
Failed to qualify for a World Cup with Holland, finishing behind a team managed by Mick McCarthy.
Sacked as technical director by Ajax after falling out with everyone.
Sacked by Barcelona in January with them three points above the relegation zone.
Won one league title in four years with an unfancied Dutch side, I'd be quite impressed if I didn't know Steve Mclaren had this on his CV too.
Won one league title in two years with Bayern Munich, again impressive if I didn't know Felix Magath had this on his CV, and he wasn't sacked in his second season for leading a team containing Lahm, Muller, Schweinsteger, Ribery and Robben to fifth.
Phil I'm not too bothered by, Scholes and Butt in the youth set-up and Giggs in a higher capacity than he had under Moyes would probably be a good situation.
Giggs should be an assistant in some capacity I reckon.
