Who are Moyes' targets? Kroos, Reus and Hummels? He worked with Kroos at Bayern and Reus and Hummels are two of the biggest players in the German league which Van Gaal just recently managed is meant to follow very closely. If we sign any of them I don't think it is because they were Moyes' targets but because Van Gaal would want them too. Van Gaal would know more about them than Moyes did anyway.

Shaw is a top left-back at 18, Moyes target or not I don't think there is many better LBs out there especially at such a young age. We are also reportedly in for the Bosnian LB from Schalke too. Carvalho is unknown if it is still on and feck knows what is going on with Cavani.

I very much doubt he has said to just go for whoever Moyes wanted and will give his opinion on his own targets. Whether they are the same targets as Moyes or not doesn't mean they can't be his targets too.

But Moyes' targets are fine. They're obvious, very good players. Why wouldn't Van Gaal endorse the likes of Shaw, Kroos and Reus when he knows it's in these positions that we do actually need improving? Who will he identify that is better?
 
So called Moyes targets were Shaw and Carvalho. From what we have read these two were 'already signed' even. Most likely we were well into discussions with them. The recent Real interest may just be that. I thought we too had a good relationship with Mendes.

Cavani....This has been all over. Not sure if this is a Woodward/board statement of buying a 'high profile' player.

Kroos. Moyes was interested. But he has also been mentioned as a player van Gaal wants.

Reus and Hummels have also been mentioned as players Van Gaal wants. I'm not sure how recent that 'quote' from Hummels is though.

So those are the 6 players mentioned and also with the amounts mentioned for the war chest we have available...sort of makes sense.

will we get them all? But if you look at the areas we are weak in...they make sense.
 
Call me pessimistic but I just can't see us getting Reus, Kroos or Hummels. Hope I'm wrong though.

Maybe Van Gaal will provide that extra pull we needed to attract those kind of players.

Apparently we're just going to offer Dortmund some cash and they'll let us walk out with two of their star player no less, it's just that easy,
Kroos is another and using us as leverage, just like Ronaldo and Fabregas last summer, fool me once shame on you..
 
Dortmund won't allow any more of their best players to leave the club this summer when Lewandowski is their second first team regular joining Bayern Munich in one year - on a fecking free transfer. It's real kick in the nuts. If they sell Reus or Hummels (or both), they'll be perceived as a ''sinking ship'' and probably won't be able to get their preferable transfer targets. Their fans are hopeful of strenghtening their squad and first team all the same and that's what's been promised to them. Their goal is to cut the distance to Bayern, not to extend it even more by selling even more stars.

The quote from Hummels is fairly recent, I think I read it on BILD a couple of weeks ago and he seems adamant on staying in Germany. I don't think he's going anywhere and the same goes for Reus. He'll be available for a set sum of 35 million next summer so I can't see him leaving this year. What is more, I fully expect him to sign that new Dortmund contract without a release clause. These release clauses are killing Dortmund's chances of putting and maintaining a team full of world class players and it was about time they did something about it.

The Kroos situation is quite different though. It feels like we have a genuine chance of getting him and having Van Gaal as manager should increase our chances even more. It was VG that gave Kroos a chance 4 years ago so one would imagine that Kroos holds VG in high regard. His contract is expiring next year and even though the Bayern chiefs have been saying that there is no pressure and it won't be the end of the world if Kroos leaves on a free next year - I doubt that's really the case. They would not want their own Lewandowski fiasco and I doubt Guardiola and Beckenbauer would just accept the situation.

I'm just guessing here but maybe if Kroos rejects Bayern's next contract offer (after the end of the season probably), they'll be looking to sell him so Pep could get his desired replacement in time. IF Kroos becomes available though, we won't be the only big club wanting to get him. Even though we'd have Van Gaal as manager, the lack of Champions League football may prove constly regarding Kroos' decision on where he would want to end up just like Chelsea's CL title proved decisive in Hazard's transfer saga two years ago.

I'm not questioning the quality of these guys. I just find it a bit peculiar that someone as meticulous and particular as Van Gaal wouldn't have his own players in mind, the way he obviously does with his backroom staff.

How does that make sense? Correct me if I´m wrong but this suppossed war chest is rumoured to be worth 150 Mil. pounds, so around 180 Mil. €. There might be a slight chance that you get the three Germans for that amount, but all six? No chance. That is closer to 300 Mil. €, an amount that was never spent by any club in a single transfer window.

The most likeliest candidate to join is Shaw. All others aside Carvalho are really unlikely, especially Hummels and Reus. If they would be any indication of letting either of them go (let alone both), Dortmund would be way more active on the transfer market right now, because they always reinvested money from transfers directly back into the squad. Either of them would bring in enough cash to instantly pay for every realistic current target of them, which directly contradicts every statement made by the officials of actually spending this Summer for the first time in years and not letting more than one key player go in this Summer.

Another thing is these do not look like Van Gaal targets to me from what I've heard about Bayern practically forcing Robben on him . A guy who prides himself on developing players will look at players who are a bit unheralded . If we are targeting the Bundesliga then I'd guess we would be going for players who are less obvious than that, who are a rug or two below the afore mentioned, where the likes of Dortmund usually do their buying . Conjecture ofcourse ....

The way we conduct our affairs has been really interesting of late. I believe the Van Gaal stories re him becoming manager but how the hell are the papers being able to state which players he wants? Are we drip feeding this stuff to the press or is it just pure guess work?
 
If it is confirmed within a few days will there be any interviews etc or will all that stuff have to wait until after the World Cup?

I read an article recently that described Woody as being far more media and fan friendly than David Gill. Apparently Gill steered clear of the media and fans whilst Woody has a lot of contact with the press and takes time out to talk to fans on away trips etc.

Woody is certainly feeding the press with a fair bit of stuff. Kroos and Reus have been known targets for months now. It is only really Hummel's name that is new. I can't really see why Van Gaal would have a problem with Moyes's targets either as they are players that most managers would want. I even buy the players every time I go on Football Manager!

It certainly is a different way of operating to the Ferguson regime but I am thinking that Woody probably sees us as having to get with the times. We were cocooned from the modern footballing world by Fergie but that is over now.

I'm guessing that once he is signed on the dotted line, he won't want anymore distractions before the WC. Interviews/press conferences won't be done until he is finished with Holland.
 
Most likely we won't be seeing players we've signed until after the world either. :( Even if it's confirmed by manutd.com, I don't believe it after I see that player or manager holding our shirt. :)

I don't think so. There's an almost universal acceptance in the media that Van Gaal has been made aware of a few players and he has chosen from that list. There is also consensus on the fact that United will press ahead with certain deals regardless of who might be their new manager. Luke Shaw for example. That's a no brainer right there - we desperately need a new LB and who better than the biggest fullback prospect the country has seen since Ashley Cole.

So fear not! We'll press ahead with a few and Van Gaal will add a few more later.

I think you misunderstand what I said. :) We will of course sign players, there just won't be a presser until after the manager can have one together with them.

If anything, it's refreshing to hear our next manager pressing the club to make the moves fast. Van Gaal knows his way around the ropes and United will respond in kind.

I think there can be no better thing at this moment in time than a autocratic leader like Van Gaal. Someone to steady the ship. Woody will also feel comfortable with the idea that the manager knows exactly what he's doing and we need hierarchal calm to get through this summer in one piece.

Kroos has said in the past that he owes Van Gaal for giving him the push into the first team. He's a fan of the Dutchman.

Any articles or links to substantiate that? Not that I'm doubting you, just never heard it before.
 
Season ticket renewal times are always rumour friendly towards clubs.

Getting Hummels and Reus would decimate Dortmund, and elevate United many levels. They're not on final years of contracts making it highly improbable Dortmund would want to do these deals.

What are you valuing these players at? :lol: If push comes to shove and Dortmund see sense in selling Reus the maximum value will be around €60m which I'm sure no one here would mind. There is still plenty of the £150 to go around plus players will be leaving.

No one would mind we have literally gone from a transfer record of arond 30m standing for years to thinking nothing of spending 65m EUR on a left winger who is a class act no doubt but he wont transform the spine of our team or anything like it.....Are we Chelsea or Man City I think people are getting carried away with nothing more than paper speculation. We've spent 80m on 2 players already in last 9 months.....

We dont have Sir Alex anymore. I'm pretty certain our spending is going to go up considerably now onwards.

Or Simeone or loads of other managers who manage to create teams without every player costing 40m EUR! Its all abit Championship Manager (Is that what its still called..) and I fear fans could be a little dissapointed once again...

Why do you think teams like Atletico dont spend? Because they cant or because they dont want to?

I'l be honest here, I see no way we're getting either of Reus or Hummels with Lewa leaving this summer but if we could with a 50mil bid, we should. And look around our squad. Of the starting 11, how many are big name signings bought for top dollar?

Reus= 60+ Mil. €
Kroos/Hummels= each 50 Mil. €

That makes for me 160+ Mil. € for the three of them, so basically nearly your whole war chest. And this is without the hype of a WC taken into consideration. You are dealing with two clubs, who have shown no signs of interest of letting these players go, so you will have to overpay for them.
