Shinji Kagawa

I really like how he makes himself available for the pass, i dont think hes been outstanding but i like having a option instead of going for the cross...

Brilliant way to use Kagawa today by Giggs, dropping down to dictate the playmaking and tempo and when the ball moves up he follows. Every time he gets the ball he tries a creative penetrative pass instead of just passing it side-ways to put the responsibility on someone else

I don't think it's worked. At all in fact.

Just pointless in there, if Hull were pressing I could understand but they aren't.

I'm guessing Giggs wants to give everyone a run out till the end of the season and given that Fellaini wouldnt offer us anything in the middle of the park may as well use him where hes best and see what Kagawa does in that positon

He looks bright simply due to the fact he's technically tight; and he's actually able to turn on the ball, go past a man (if needed), and pass forward without the need for four touches.

However he often lacks urgency, as if he's playing in a testimonial, and he doesn't shield the ball well enough when in possession to play that deep a role; he leaves his body too open.

Hes further forward now, hopefully Giggs will add a little extra urgency in the middle too.

Please don't play him in midfield. His abilities are not suited to it at all and it's blatantly obvious. Kagawa likes to be in pockets of space rather than in space facing defenders.

He was deeper than Carrick most of the game

Yup, was a bit exaggerated playing him there rather than with someone more defensively sound next to/behind him. But he allows us to penetrate the central areas in a way we haven't really done this year.

He, and most, do look like they are playing for nothing though. No intensity and heart at display, but still one of the most entertaining games in years in my eyes. We are playing entertaining football and dreams are coming true for the youngsters and the ones retiring as well.

He's not going to penetrate anything when he plays that deep, just not his style at all. Fellaini could perform the role he was asked to(a tad exaggeration).

But yeah, no intensity and not surprising at all tbh. Delighted for the 2 kids and Giggsy and Vida though. Will miss them both:(

Come on man, I'm a diehard Kagawa fan but he was shit tonight.

Sell him back to Dortmund please and no its not kneejerk. He just does not suit our system at all

He had a poor game today but he is far too good a player to get rid of. LVG will get the best out of him. Our system is going to change with LVG.

Not the greatest performance. He is technically sound but his shots and his passes were very erratic. I personally wouldn't be overly angry if we sold him.

Kagawa always plays like this to be honest. It's as if he sometimes forgets that you don't get points for clever flicks and dinks.

He simply can't play as effectively in a slower system, especially a slow possession-based system.
He'd fit in at Liverpool actually.

Average again. No urgency whatsoever in his game, never has been at United.

Quite rightly isn't first choice as an AM either. All of Januzaj, Rooney and Mata are better.

You really dislike him don't ya? Quality player who had been our best player over the past month, played out of position in a dead rubber, he wasn't average he was shit but the fact you think Rooney is a better AM pretty much sums your opinion up.

Too many displaced passes today, something he's been great at this season but yea, CM's definitely not his position.

Only thing I don't get is why his shots from outside of the box are so weak ? Seems like he puts no power in them.

Just don't play him in CM again.

He'd fit in at pretty much any top team except for us and Chelsea.

We already know that he was brilliant/world class for Dortmund. We already know that he's brilliant for Japan. We already know that he was good under Fergie, despite struggling with injuries and adjusting himself to a new role. And according to Kagawa's former coach in Japan, Barcelona is the team that would fit him the best.

The crappy football we're currently playing does him no favors at all. Even Mata, who's been allowed to play in his favored position, is only a shadow of his own top level.

It's not rocket science. Crappy, slow, and static football makes classy players seem mediocre. Especially technical players who thrive under quick movement.

No he doesn't. What a colossal lie.

He was very poor tonight, irrespective of the position.

I think he will be fine if its LVG as our next manager, the system will change and Kagawa will fit right in.

I dont think so, he is a quality player and he would suit a possession based system, the first half of the season we were anything but possession based. Hoof ball was the catch phrase in here for quite a while.

Come on man, I'm a diehard Kagawa fan but he was shit tonight.

I think that is fairly harsh. Have we ever conceded less shots this season than today? Hull had two shots all game, the same amount of shots that Kagawa had alone. We were completely dominant so I can see why most players lacked intensity as the game meant nothing. Vidic was smiling and laughing with DDG etc, it was the tune of the game.

Shinji was jogging all game, it was more about entertainment tonight than winning a meaningful match. We saw that with almost all players performances and the fact that we used the youngsters and Giggs/Vidic got to play.

Not sure which other midfielder would have assured us to be as penetrative as we were today. We cut through Hull with ease and I don't think we would have done it with Fellaini/Fletcher/Cleverley there.

People are expecting too much from a match that had less meaning than a pre-season match.

So he's not a CM. Was a really weird decision by to play him there today. For all of Fellaini's faults, surely he would have been better next to Carrick, just as Kagawa would have been better playing as the number 10.

He is still a great player and has shown what he can do, especially recently when he was employed alongside Mata. If we do look to move towards playing with one striker then we should keep him as both a back up number 10 and an option on the left. With Van Gaal coming in this might be the case.

More importantly, did anyone see Kagawa's cheeky grin to Fellaini when Wilson scored after Fellaini missed the sitter

And here we go again!

Call Kagawa average and you get bombarded by his over zealous fanbois who then proceed to hype up every little thing he does. He was fecking average. Deal with it.

Rooney's a better player in pretty much any position.

I meant as in lack of urgency.

He isn't urgent on the ball in terms of carrying it in the way somebody like Januzaj or even an Anderson is. When the ball is being knocked about at pace it isn't a problem.

I'm expecting a big season from him under Van Gaal come next season. If it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out, but I'm quietly confident. He's had a good end to the season and plenty of game time, so that's a good thing going forward.

I do, Giggs made more penetrative passes than Shinji today from midfield, I love him but that was his worst game in a united shirt.

Despite him not having a great game tonight, let's not forget that he was voted POTM on this very forum less than one week ago, and that he was playing in CM tonight. I know it's popular to raid player threads with negative comments, but it wouldn't hurt to not have goldfish memory for once:lol:

It's a bit of a good thing that he was shite in midfield, actually. Manchester United has this weird belief that it can take any player, no matter how good or bad, and mould them into a different player, in a different position.

How many times has it actually worked?

Dreadful tonight. Never have I seen a player still be so ridiculously hyped after two seasons of average returns. Starting to think it's a distinctively loud minority though.

What system is this that we can afford to play Rooney, Mata and Kagawa: unless you are suggesting we bench someone

There was some stuff from him tonight that was just way below his best, regardless of what position he's playing. Three or four badly mis-placed passes when the chance for a killer pass was on (not necessarily massively easy balls, but this is exactly what he's meant to be amazing at) and a few chances to receive the ball and turn in tight spaces near their goal (his other strongest attribute) when it juts bounced off him.
