United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

This is becoming as farcical as the Fabregas chase now. How many times will it be announced in the next 24-48 hours only then for that to run out and the same person to say "the next couple of days" before you know it, its friday and the line is "expected within the next week".

Just fecking come out and say "no formal decision has been made, until we have any official news, take everything you read/see as hearsay as the club will make an official statement when the new coach will be selected, we are working hard and hope to have a decision made by Friday"

The more I think about it the more concerned I am about this.

Not that Van Gaal isnt well equipped to deal with this, but still, it would be a damaging spat and its an unnecessary risk. I dont know what Giggs would bring to the role of assistant manager that is worth the risk of it. What is he actually going to learn watching Van Gaal that he hasnt already picked up watching SAF as a senior player with his ear?

He needs to cut his teeth out in the real world, on his own. He doesnt need to be put in the middle of an authoritarian new manager making quite difficult decisions and a squad full of his own friends and colleagues.

Till now I have been ambivalent about Giggs being assistant but Im gravitating towards being actively against it now.
Completely agree with this.

What's farcical is peoples inability to switch off because a thread on a forum or the media have them by the balls. The media keep saying 24hrs ..48 hrs...what does that tell you? The media are wrong. It doesn't have to mean there's a problem. These stories come up because the media don't know anything and then create excuses which people fall for. Even if there was truth there, there is nothing to say they're in the know. So just relax...

I think we're rushing a bit. Sky sports are reporting that Conte will reveal what the future holds for him in the next few days. Also talks about his dream of building a team that can win the champions league and said this dream of his is impossible at juventus.

That there's more than one way to play football. That for me is the key to Giggs's career at management. He needs to broaden his horizons. Another step should be going out somewhere and being a manager, but I do believe he has a lot to learn from a different, quality, manager.

Having said that, I think an assistats role is too much at the moment. He should be a coach, not the number two.

Agreed. He needs to have a plan B, C, D and not just Plan A. Under LVG, who has been across the continent playing in different leagues with different styles of play, he will indeed gain fantastic knowledge from LVG.

Maybe Woodward wants to get rid off the old guard so that LvG doesn't get accociated with getting rid of Rio/Evra/Giggs?

Just announce him already!!!

Now wouldn't that be a thought! Remove people who might not be too welcoming of a new era under the banner of 'Asshole CEO' and pave the way for Van Gaal. I will have a lot of respect for Woodward if this were true.

I doubt it.

We better be quick getting him to sign. Spurs might offer to buy his mum and dad a house.

Although Conte is good, i still think LVG is perfect for the role in terms of rebuilding a squad, he has experience in various leagues, and the fact he likes to bring young players through and also play attractive football is a plus too.

Louis' such a tease.

He's actually starting to remind me of the managerial equivalent of Christopher Walken with his theatrics.

Woodward will soon realise that "If Moyes got six years then surely I should get 60" was a dig, not a negotiating position.

Agreed. Conte refused to rule himself out not too long back as well. LVG looks the most likely but I wouldn't rule out anyone yet, as I think we're trying to get other managerial targets or at least negotiating with a few only one I think is unattainable at the moment is Ancelotti, I wouldn't even rule out Guardiola.

Monaco are supposedly after Conte though (Sky).

It would be interesting to see what he looked like when he said it and how he said it. That quote could either mean he's already signed with us or Ed is dragging his heels and van Gaal is starting to get annoyed.

I hope that Woodward don't mess things up

Yup, one of the two. Would also love to know the context.

Not sure how to take LVG comments, it seems like a negative to me and gives the impression we are delaying things.

He's just waiting for United to announce it.

The deal would have been already agreed and LVG/United will be working behind the scenes to identify targets, go after those targets, clear out the deadwood and organise backroom stuff. It's just not official yet due to his commitment to the Dutch squad.

The Dutch squad have a day-break tomorrow so I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced sometime from now and then.

This, if it isn't announced tomorrow (which I firmly believe it will be), then start to worry a little bit perhaps.

Yup, this.

On a side note, I really detest the journo's who go into these press conferences, when the agenda is clearly on something very different and ask questions on another subject, particuarly that they know full well will be offlimits, suich as the United managers position in this case when the focus is soley on a another nations world cup preperations.
I know they have a job to do but they really do come across as scavenging buzzards.

Really? Italian football must be more fecked than I thought when Conte says that of his club Juventus.

Here is what he said about Manchester United from NOS

http://nos.nl/video/647315-van-gaal-over-manchester-united.html

Here is the translation:

Journo: How are things with Manchester United, when will get some clarity about the situation, because it is ofcourse the club that has to announce it ?

LVG: We are here on account of the dutch national team, and I'am the coach. I diverted from this once, the first day, when a couple of english journalists arrived here unasked. I found it a bit sad not to answer them, so I said 4 half words and that became 60 pages ! That is not my fault, is it ?

Journo: Couldn't it be, that tomorow when it is free day, you step onto a plain to Manchester and say some more words there ?

LVG: Ask them, ask Manchester.

Journo: But you know this aswell ?

LVG: I don't know yet, but you apparently do !

Journo: No, no I don't know, you are the expert on this...

LVG: ok, ok...

That is all he said, now what should you read into to this ? Simply nothing, when he said I don't know, ask them, he basically said, I don't want to comment about this, go ask them if you want to know, because I have no information to share about this and I want to talk about the dutch team only because i'am here in that function. The last time I diverted from that, it resultated in my words being overused (and misused) and so I won't comment on this anymore.

Informational value aboout wheter he is going to be our next coach or not, aboslutley zero, he may have signed already and the club could have said him not to comment, nothing may have been signed yet and the negotiations could still be hapening and hence both parties are silent, no one knows unless there is reliable insider information. The only positive you could read in this, is that he hasn't denied anything, so that basically proves something is going on (has been going on) but what the status is, who knows ? Nothing negative to read into his quotes at all, just that he didn't want to comment on it further.
