This gives me more faith mind.....
Just been speaking to a Dutch chap (who seemed to know his football, couldnt shut him up about it in fact). He reckons we're crazy going for a 62 yr old when there's such an obvious trend amongst the big clubs to put faith in young talent - Simione, Klopp, Guardiola - he has a point
No it doesn't, you could be topping your group for 10 straight seasons winning 6/8 of your group stage games before losing in the first knock out round and your winning percentage still will be anywhere between 60 - 67%. If you have the same winning percentage over the knockout rounds, that's impressive.
Bayern Munich signed a 66 year old Heynckes in 2011, its not bad when the manage has a grip on modern football like Van Gaal does and has been actively managing his whole career. It is bad if you have to dust off a 70 year old Dalglish from a senior living facility.
Tbf, Klopp and Guardiola are proven managers and imo don't fall into the bracket of young talented managers. Simione, I agree. But the team that hired him was Atletico Madrid, which isn't a top tier club like ours.Just been speaking to a Dutch chap (who seemed to know his football, couldnt shut him up about it in fact). None of the listed managers are available?Just been speaking to a Dutch chap (who seemed to know his football, couldnt shut him up about it in fact). Exactly. It seems to me that we're being diligent with details this time. Another problem which the impatient people are ignoring is that LvG is currently employed and on duty. Why are people getting their nickers in a twist over when we'll announce this? He's clearly going to be the new manager, just calm down.
People complained we got Moyes without a thorough interview process and now they're complaining that we won't announce this soon enough.![]()

He has reached 3 finals. One less than Fergie, two more than Wenger and one more than Mourinho.
Has Moyes? No. So silly suggestion comparing his record with Moyes.

I'm no fan of David Moyes in fact was against his appointment from the get go and predicted we would finish seventh under him. But you can't tell me the way they treated him was correct. I mean it was obvious from pretty early on there was problems within the setup. Certain players not acting like professionals. That mysterious person leaking stuff to the press and numerous other things. Then, he found out he was sacked by social media, which was caused by another leak. This wouldn't have happened under Sir Alex.
What aspects of our handling of it strike you as particularly amateurish?
According to Klopp, United have not approached him for the job, and he had nothing to turn down. Can't see United wanting to pay a huge compensation fee when they just had to pay off Moyes. It has always been Van Gaal from the start, but this time they are probably asking him what his plans are instead of placing the job in his lap.And Klopp is probably about the only one we'd take over Van Gaal.
Agreed. With Moyes, SAF made the choice, the board went a long with it, Moyes given a 6 year contract and left to it.....the rest is history and we are now about to go down the right path in taking our time, hiring a proven, world-class manager in LVG and starting our transfer activity early.According to Klopp, United have not approached him for the job, and he had nothing to turn down. I wouldn't call it a drama, which is usually created by media and fans.It is taking ages. I dont remember anything happening like that at any other club. Every deal at United seem full of drama.
Yup. I just had that feeling that Van Gaal would take over as soon as the newspapers leaked info about the meeting that United had with him when Moyes was still the manager. I know United denied it at the time, but i just had that feeling. I had wanted Klopp from the moment i heard Fergie was retiring, but would be more than happy with Van Gaal.Agreed. I want Klopp too. I just have this feeling that United have not approached him, or have not tried hard enough. I think it may be because they would have to pay a huge compensation fee to Dortmund.I meant the fans (us). For me it's either Klopp or Van Gaal, Klopp isn't available so there is really no other choice.
I know there are still people saying they want Mourinho, Pep, Simeone etc. Just seems from what I've read and seen in the polls on here and other sites that it is Van Gaal who most people want.

Will be furious if he is allowed to bring with him a brigade of Dutch staff and players. Will be an indefensible move as amateurish, divisive, and cowardly as Moyes' attempt to bring half of Everton with him.
Im not sure about that. For me the fact the decision was taken about Woods and Rio suggests the deal is agreed. If there was any doubt at all that Van Gaal would be our next manager they would have held off letting them go, because another manager might want to keep them. So I think the hold up is about finer details (which might include Giggs, so maybe that part of the announcement GB suggested would not be possible) and/or WC preparations.
There's no way at all the time its taking is because the man in question is up to his neck in world cup prep? Why does it all have to be the club's fault? There are only minor details to be sorted and he has a game to play too.It is taking ages. I dont remember anything happening like that at any other club. Every deal at United seem full of drama.

Holland, which happens to be directly between England and Germany. What better way to throw the media off the scent of Klopp or Pep than to meet in Holland? How anyone can think we are even considering anyone else other than LvG at this stage is beyond belief. Did you not see Giggs being pictured in Holland yesterday?

Make up of backroom staff can still see the deal being scuppered. Hes not the type to back down.
This is not done.
Unless he's hankering over bringing in Keane, I don't see why anything would be hard to accommodate.
Exactly! We are embarrassing, we dither over frigging everything. It is taking ages. I dont remember anything happening like that at any other club. Every deal at United seem full of drama.
I was thinking this today but I doubt Giggs would fly to holland otherwise.Maybe we are waiting for Ancelotti to get fired after he fails with the Decima
Referring to the ambition shown by "what we have done on the managerial front recently" could very easily be a reference to sacking Moyes for being 7th place. It shows ambition when a position that 2/3 of the league would have been thrilled with is considered such an unmitigated disaster that we fired a manager after just 10 months.Woody hinted that United had shown ambition recently by doing the following:

I think it's 90% likely that it's done, but just playing devil's advocate for the other 10%.
