I still don't understand why van Gaal's preference that this not drag on into World Cup preparation time has meant that we've seen fit to delay announcement as close to the world cup as possible. I suspect if Giggs wasn't an issue he'd be signed and sealed by now as was his preference and as you'd assume Woodward would have wanted before yesterdays investors conference call.
By Jamie Jackson.....may as well add messi to the target list. He is not one to put any faith in.
We've delayed the announcement until June 11th ? Source ?
It's not the lack of quotes in his articles that bother me. It's not even the fact that only the first paragraph of his articles is relevant to the news headline, and the rest is just filler from another one of his previous quote less articles. It's his smug little face in the picture at the top that really annoys me.
You make it sound like Giggs was Fergie's partner over those twenty six years whilst he was just being managed by Fergie . Those twenty six years were spent as a player, those medals won as a player and whilst it's desirable to have him within the structures of the club it also shouldn't be a deal breaker . Another thing is that it is not ideal for a manager to work with a #2 he can not completely trust and who doesn't owe his presence at the club to that manager . The situation that makes it impossible for them to function as a team has been brought about by the likelihood that their fates won't be intertwined meaning that Giggs will most likely benefit from Van Gaal's fall . This scenario is fertile ground for mistrust because no sane manager will ever trust someone who has been made heir apparent before they were appointed and Giggs' desire to land that job will provide motivation towards undermining the incumbent . This insistence on Giggs being given a senior role has made Van Gaal vulnerable, he has been undermined before even landing the job .I can see how you logic is coming from but it is terrible conclusion from your logic.
The unique situation of Man United should be compared to any other football clubs?!! You have to be very stupid to have thought it that way.
How many Ryan Giggs in this whole fecking football world? How many footballer with so many medals under his spell have worked with one successful manager for 26 years? Name one for me! Oh wait don't, I don't want to waste my time on this with you!

You've hit the nail on the head there and I think a lot of people are in denial on the basis that they think it'd be cool to see Giggs in the dugout but the ingredients are there for van Gaal to be or to feel undermined, no question about it. What if the two fall out or van Gaal doesn't enjoy working with him, his capacity to do anything about it is severely limited.
Fergie's school of rhetoric?![]()
If we play 3 at the back the Caf will melt.
New guardian article suggesting that we may get Robben, Mueller, Hummels, Shaw and Kroos. Or at least target those players.

Look here this whole thread is based on speculation, there isn't a shred of evidence that points to LvG being this close to the United job . What we do know is that after Giggs' first win as a manager there was a sustained campaign from OT luminaries to hand the permanent gig to Ryan, we've all read reports that Fergie wants Giggs to take the role in three years, I suspect that if it was up to LvG then Giggs wouldn't be his first choice for #2 and we have had the likes of Robson stating that LvG ought to be made to keep Giggs and the Co92 on plus Giggs himself wants the job . Don't tell me that if you were LvG you'd completely trust Ryan in these circumstances, would you knowing that hugely influential figures have him earmarked to replace you ? Would you confide in him during a bumpy period ? Discuss openly with him about sensitive matters like dropping/selling one of his mates ? Not suspect him when team affairs are leaked ? What about Giggs won't he sense an opportunity to fulfil his lifelong dream when Van Gaal's ship hits an iceberg, the worse things go for Van Gaal the closer Giggs gets to that job because he will be the one people inside the stadium will turn to if shit hits the fan .How do you know LVG can't trust Giggs, there's no guarantee he will succeed LVG and when. All this is pure speculation. We don't know what it will be in a contract.
I doubt he will. He almost exclusively plays 4-3-3. The only reason I can think that he's switching to three at the back for Netherlands is to maximise the attacking potential of the squad with the players at his disposal.
Thought I read that he's utilized quite a few formations in his time, though always keeping with the principles of Dutch total football.

i think most united fans would feel the same.I'm not sure if I'd like Robben here at his age. Also, I've never liked him.
to see if they could get on and work together. Can anyone give me a good reason as to why Giggs needed to fly over there and have a chat face to face?

He does play a bunch of different formations. 3-5-2, 3-3-1-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-1-1 etc etc. There is no end to the formations he has played, it depends completely on which players he has at his disposal.
Not sure how much one should read in to his "I always play 4-3-3" statement, it obviously isn't true so it most likely came out wrong.
Yeah, I think what he meant in that interview is that he sticks to 4-3-3 for Holland. I've read that 4-3-3 is very much the preferred formation for the national team in Holland.
That said he's going to 3-5-2 this weekend apparently, so...
When he took over at Bayern he tried a bunch of formations before he settled on 4-2-3-1. It'll be interesting to see what he tries with us.
de GeaNah. Do not want. Or maybe?
Smalling - Carrick - Evans
Rafael - Carvalho - Strootman - Shaw
Mata
van Persie - Rooney
Seriously, no! I'm not sure.
to see if they could get on and work together.
So if he does come, how will transfers work? Does he give us a list of players to go after or does Woodward try and buy who Moyes or Giggs wanted? Also, how does van Gaal assess our squad and make the necessary decisions about who stays and who goes if he's at the World Cup, is it all going to happen during pre-season?
their not coaches, the obvious idea is that if they got on and shared a similar vision, giggs would work on Van Gaal coaching staff, probably as his assistant. the meeting was probably to see if that would be possible. But why would that matter at this point?
I wouldnt imagine Xavi/Puyol flying over to see if they can work together with the new Barca manager, Seems strange.
I believe that too.
To be honest, there is a Dutch match on at the weekend. Friendly or not, it's still a warm-up game for the WC and the Dutch FA/United feel it's showing consideration that they don't announce it now while LVG is coaching the Dutch side in prep for the game on Saturday. After that, they have 2 weeks before their next game. Plenty of time for things to settle down once it's announce on Sun/Mon. The media is just blowing things out of proportion because there is no announcement to write about.their not coaches, the obvious idea is that if they got on and shared a similar vision, giggs would work on Van Gaal coaching staff, probably as his assistant. the meeting was probably to see if that would be possible.
Also probably to discuss the summer, as giggs may have to take the lead on some transfer buisness, and will probably have to take the start of preseason training without Van Gaal.
so thier lots to discuss.
jsut have to se if it turned out positive or not, the fact thier is further delay is a tad worrying, but the media things the talks where positive, so thats a good sign.
