Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Still nothing negative to say about him.

I think it's safe to say he's one of the best managers ever, on the basis of the beginning of his reign here.

Some people on here must remember that the WC is the main focus of the new manager and between now and 13 July (should the Dutch progress that far) there will be nothing newer to be done by Van Gaal. We have to be patient and just feel happy and excited today we finally have a capable manager and an excellent assistant. Since Van Gaal already gave a transfer wish list to Woody, it's up to Woody to do the rest. Patient, be patient folks! :)

Haven't heard a single "We'll try to" all day. It's like heaven.
All we heard so far was, "Man United the biggest club in the world", "I am very proud", "makes me very proud", "I know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is", "how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are", "This club has big ambitions"; "I too have big ambitions.", "Together I'm sure we will make history."

A Man United quality! Welcome to United Louis! :)

Seems irrational but I want Holland to go all the way in this World Cup. Will really shut the gobs of Fowler and co who presume Van Gaal is some fuddy duddy out of sync with modern football. Imagine having a World Cup winning coach slotting right in ! The tide of optimism will be insane. Add that to United's prestige and Woody's "warchest" and players will be bending over backwards to sign for us. Also it'll be a great confidence booster for existing squad members after the few turbulent months under our previous manager. :D

I dont think Holland is capable of winning the World Cup. We'll see.

They don't really have the players to do it. As has been the case for yonks, it seems, they're a possible semi-finalist but unlikely to do better than that.

Just as there was no meaningful comparison between Moyes and Fergie-there's no meaningful comparison between LvG and Moyes. I doubt we'll hear about the difficult schedule or how our squad is lacking in quality. It's just so nice to see a manager who looks like he belongs at United.

Totally agree pals. They have a minuscule chance of actually winning it. Hence the "irrational" part in my previous post. However as Greece taught us never say never. Favourable draws in the QF/ Semis, rising to the occasion stuff from players, a few unexpectedly good defensive performances and BAM ! Louis lands the cup. :)

I don't care about slow starts as long as I see progress being made week after week, something which never happened under Moyes.

Same. The whole 'he makes slow starts' thing is irrelevant to me. I know it won't please everyone but I can accept a slow-climb provided improvements are visible over the course of 12-24 months.

Moyes never improved a single thing during his time here. He took us backwards.

Agree very easy choice of second team at the WC now!

Wouldn't worry to much what Robbie Fowler thinks. About as knowledgeable about the game as a fecking watering can.

That disrespectful bastard David Moyes hasn't even made a comment yet about this exciting new appointment. For a former United manager not to do so I think is appalling. ;)

In all seriousness I do hope that fans realize that his methods will take time to implement. He is also notoriously a slow starter when it comes to new jobs.

People say he starts slow but doesn't he usually win the league in his first season?

I'd be happy with the league, the cup and getting to a champions league final like at FC Bayern or the double even without a champions league final like at FC Barcelona.

Can see an inconsistent first half of the season really, especially given that we'll have huge squad changes and most of the current squad has been used to slow, static football with little off the ball movement the last few years. This summer is definitely a big one whatever the case, but I can see us getting top 4 next season, having an Arsenal type season. It'll be exciting though, and with him you know we're building to a potentially excellent United team.

12 months too late if you ask me but better late than never, he will get the time Moyes wasn't granted just off the back of his past records and if course his completely contrasting personality to that of dull Dave.

Great day! It feels like we're back on track (or at least back on the rails)

Honours: Ajax: UEFA Cup 1991/92, KNVB Cup 1992/93, Eredivisie 1993/94, 1994/95, 1995/96, UEFA Champions League 1994/95, UEFA Super Cup 1995, Intercontinental Cup 1995;Barcelona: La Liga 1997/98, 1998/99, Copa del Rey 1997/98, UEFA Super Cup 1997;AZ: Eredivisie 2008/09; Bayern Munich: Bundesliga 2009/10, DFB-Pokal 2009/10

So far I've been impressed with his team selection, he hasn't played Young or Cleverley at all which is a great move from him.

Disappointed I wasn't on here when the announcement was made, missed out on the hysteria. Good appointment I think, I feel a lot more confident with this than I did with our appointment last year. He seems like a bit of a legend of a character that'll have us fans eating out of his hand. The contrasts to the last manager are ridiculous really. Here's to more positive times ahead! :)

Having Van Gaal go deep in the world cup would also help with transfers.

Having Holland win(not very likely) the world cup would not be a bad thing.

Sadly 12 months too late … this is what it should have felt like after SAF left! Anyways, water under the Moyes bridge for now.

The most exciting thing for me, is that despite not being in the Champions League next season, its very easy to fathom that world class players will want to join us over other clubs because the can learn for a proven world master of the game.

Actually have LVG fully active at the world cup is perfect in a sense that he can get a genuine due dilliegnce of the entire globe top talent and so form his 3 years transfer renovation stratgey in one go.

We may make 3 or more significant signings this summer alone, but we will also make them in the winter and also next summer. Some players we need now, some we need next summer and beyond, but I can imagine a meeting between LVG and the Glazers very early on where he outlines his full 3 year transfer acquistion plan and leave the rest of the Woodward.

Plus of course his existing strong emotional affinity with the very top German and Dutch players. All of a sudden, Manchester United is a top magnet for the worlds top football talent, as long as we can pay enough to secure their sevices. It's going to be fun!

Hopefully this thread can be more positive than the last one. It's all up to you, Louis. I keep saying it, but I honestly can't wait for the new season.

The problem of Moyes was not JUST our league position. He's negative, weak, not confident, instill Everton mentality, wanting to aspire to City's standard, losing to Liverpool because they are the favourite, signing Fellaini... etc and he's not a motivator who could get the best out of players, quite the opposite. If he has learned, he would not be in a position like that.

Van Gaal seems like a strong character and obviously has winning mentality. There is no doubt he will be given time but I believe he's impatient and wants to get us back to the top asap!!

Moyes? What's a Moyes?

I can't wait for the summer. :) I think he's impressed me when all he said prior were all music to our ears (we the biggest club, it made him proud, he has big ambition as well etc..). Giggs will take care of things before he takes up the job after 13 July. :)

Ay, Giggs will definitely come in handy for the time that Van Gaal is away.

This guy oozes confidence, class and charisma. The complete polar opposite of Moyes, who seemed to have the personality of a brick.
