This team is playing with so much hunger and confidence, please bring this to us next season LVG.

People should steady on though, the next best thing after Alex Ferguson was/is clear Jose Mourinho. But LVG is still a world class manager in his own respect. Netherlands still won't go far in this tournament, because they really lack top quality players.

It's what he does with players you wouldn't call 'World Class' that's most exciting.

Good point. Also TBF he'd be more inclined to use Wilson, Lingard, Pereira etc than dip excessively into the market. Reckon he bloods atleast half a dozen reserve/ academy players next season. Exciting times.

Umm I wouldn't be so sure of that. Holland have a great chance to top group B and face Mexico/ Cameroon/ Croatia in Last 16. If they progress it'll be most probably Columbia/ Greece or England/ Uruguay. If they play like they did today progression to the Semis is pretty set where they'll probably face a stern test vs Germany.

So I guess this guy knows what he's talking about when he said he made a formation and tactic specifically for Spain

Can't wait for the new season to start now.

If he can get a midfield of De Jong-Guzman-Sneijder to outplay Spain then I think we're in for a hell of a ride.

It's not the result that's impressed me the most, it's the manner in which the Netherlands attacked right till the final whistle.
That's what we've been crying out for, for years, total football.

It was the epitome of total football. Robben and RVP were interchangeable seamlessly. Blind was picking out everyone and anyone. Incredible performance.

I hope the frustration over the transfer window reduces now. We've already made the best signing we'll make in this transfer window lads!

Amazing!! He could get the best out of his players against Spain. You know.. we might don't need a lot of players after all. LVG might turns Young, Valencia, Nani, Fellaini and Cleverley into world beaters.

Seen what he can do with 2 world class attackers and a fairly average team otherwise.

He should fit right in ;)

2 goal assist from daley blind, thats what you get from playing cm/cdm in leftback position, still dont want him tho.. anyway im gutted it wasnt 8.. well played Luis, very good tactics tonight against world champions.. already feeling excited about next season:-) such a shame anderson wont make it here so he cant shite on fabregas on again..

Shows how important a good manager is. No one paid any attention to Holland because they didn't have the sort of marquee players that stand out when people analyze WC sides, and yet they did this.

He's fully focused on World Cup and that's just professional... Can't wait when he'll be 100% United.

Ridiculous. Never in my wildest dream did I expect Netherlands to demolish Spain.

Top managers devise systems to get the best out of their players and that's exactly what Van Gaal has done there.

Imagine a united team with a couple of midfield additions being coached to defend and attack together like that? that performance had everything.

Very impressed! Looking forward to seeing more of Netherlands now  and next season!

I'm really impressed at how he set up to make Spain uncomfortable on the ball often caging a player between a triangle, pressing as a team in their own half and going out when it mattered, often leading to Spain making mistakes and hitting them on the counter and it worked.

If he can beat Spain with a midfield consisting of de Guzman, de Jong and a past it Sneijder..

He knows he's got match winners up top, i.e. just get them the ball. The rest of the side are obviously mainly average players but absolutely worked their bollocks off for the entire 90 minutes, they were relentless.

Like I have been telling the muppets for weeks: "United already made their greatest signing when they signed van Gaal".

Anything else would be the icing on the cake.

United will compete for the title.

His tactics tonight were so simple and yet so effective. It's ridiculous.

So yeah.....Big Louis is now my dreamboat

That's what we should play. An effective football. What is tiki taka? a boring possession game.

Ridiculously impressive result...

Don't want to get too excited in case of crushing disappointment but that's exactly the type of football I want us to be playing.

So could we line up like this next season?

---------------De Gea---------------
Rafael--Smalling--Jones--Evans--Evra
-----Carrick----Mata----Fellaini----
-------------RVP----Rooney-------------

????

Poor LVG, this is only going to increase expectations here when they were already slightly too high. Watch as poster after poster declares that we're going to win the league...

Still, damn nice to see our guy doing the business. Bit of optimism around the place is no bad thing.
