Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Completely agree. He's not Sir Alex. He's one of a number of good managers, and a return to the top is far from guaranteed.
And I still think things could go extremely well but could also go horribly wrong under Van Gaal.
We're already better than Arsenal and Liverpool, and maybe level with City and Cheisea, just by having Van Gaal apparently! I read it on here.

Van Gaal has been an international manager for two years. He very rarely hasn't been on holiday.

Er, what? Personal attacks aside (thanks for those), you think the Dutch have been entertaining, bar the drubbing of Spain? I'm not doubting that he can bring success -- so keep fighting that straw man -- I'm just saying they've been playing crap football, and it's been highly disappointing. I hope he doesn't bring that system to us.

Calm down, dear. Were you aware of the expectations in Holland before the tournament? He took a bang average squad within PK's of a WC final. This is a good thing.

How many are really expecting LVG to start straight after the World Cup finishes, FFS the man deserves a holiday, just like everybody else.

No real pressure on the 3rd/4th place play off. He can holiday until then. We'll give him Sunday off and he can start on Monday. At 8am.

If he would change him, he had to do it earlier imo, not at that time, while it was a bit obvious that we would go to penalties. Bullshite, RVP ran more than the team average, 12 km.

But looked awful when he came off. I am sure LvG saw he was flagging.

I have no idea how somebody like yourself can question the decisions whilst guessing the facts.

He did a marvelous job with a limited Dutch squad. Great achievement to take them this far with some great management. Shame Sneijder had a poor tournament and RvP not living up to first game, meaning too much depended on one man, Robben.

The other thing I wonder is do people understand it might take a season or 2 for us to be top 2 again.

The Premier League is very unpredictable nowadays. We shouldn't demand to finish top 2 next season but he could very well just win the damn thing if he plays his cards right, and win the big games with his tactics.

RVP looked as if he was struggling to even walk off and did next to nothing all game.

Strutting around the pitch, not even registering a shot on target... I dont care if he clocked up 120km, he wasn't fit and didn't need to be on the pitch anymore. If you think he was "OK" then you're either not paying attention or you're not clued up on the game.

His sub almost paid off, as everyone saw.

You can't blame the loss on the fact he didn't take a pen. If anything, ask why Vlaar took the first one and not Huntelaar, who is just as good as RvP at penalties.

Made some terrible decisions today, should have let RVP stay on for the penalties, and brought on Tim Krul, and why did he let Vlaar take the first penalty?

Because it wasn't a 'pressure' penalty, relatively speaking. Vlaar was clearly a bit hopeless at them, so he gave him the easiest task where they could repair damage if Vlaar missed.

Had Sneijder scored and Cillessen not been hopeless it would have panned out.

That was another point I made, to me he didnt seem not ok, if he wasnt LVG would have substituted him earlier/

RVP's been subbed off every game bar the Costa Rica game in this World Cup.

Guessing? I wouldn say someone who walked/ran 12 km is not OK..

Is it a case that all your bricks are not on your lorry? He ran 12k, looked like death and needed to come off. Are you suggesting he ran him into the ground? Behave yourself!

Why do you guys even argumentate that way, if RVP is shite, he isnt fit. He was also very poor against Costa Rica and he was fit, he hasnt been good for Holland at all except the Spain game.

Then you're wrong. Everyone else is saying he looked unfit but you are the only one saying otherwise.

Either all our TVs were showing a different game or you are extremely mistaken. I'll let you decide.

If Fergie hadn't retired you'd have said we were better than all 4, no?

Redcafe havent proven to be the most objective, on a different site (voetbalzone, a site which doesnt contain 99 percent United fans), no one has come up with the fact that he wasnt fit.

Vastly overachieved with that side, can't wait till he properly gets started with our lot. Changes will be fairly dramatic and we've got plenty to be hopeful about.

pre-season is a holiday, really. Gets to tour around the US. He'll be thinking endlessly about football if at work or not. He isn't going to bugger off and switch his phone off, unlike someone else may have.

Your profile says you're 16 years old and I'm not sure if English is your first language so I'll not be irritated at your lack of getting what every one is saying.

Seriously, if you can't see he was unfit, then this conversation is over.

Disappointed in van Gaal tonight, made some weird decisions (might have been forced) and was too conservative. Should've tried to test the weak Argie defence more.

I think he did a great job to get the Dutch here. Literally had only 3 class players out of which Rvp and Sneijder were average at best. Rvp especially. We knew Sneijder was past it. Worrying is RVP and hence I think Rooney should be our main striker and not Rvp

This isn't hindsight because I said it before that he's done brilliantly to get this dutch side this far. Very average collection of players.

It is not his fault that Sneijder was so poor. Lot of good moves got broken as final pass didn't come from him. Add to that RvP having off game. As a manager you can change tactics, motivate players etc etc but in the end players need to do their job. I don't want to blame this Dutch team because they did well reaching till here but I don't think anything was wrong with Van Gaal's tactics.
