Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal Player

He's a world class talent and he'll improve them, but he doesn't play in an area they needed players.

In fact, he plays in an area where they were already over-stocked. Of course, this might be the impetus they need to cut their losses on that useless donkey, Podolski.

If Arsenal can get Khedira/Bender and maybe another forward on top of this then they have a really good squad on paper.

Doesn't concern me in the way it would if City/Chelsea/Utd signed him, though maybe times are changing.

Seriously though i think its great for the Premier league, and that is why i consider it as the toughest league to win, not only the teams are evenly matched but there are plenty of teams who can afford to pay top price for players and wages hence improving the quality of the league, it was Liverpool and Arsenal fighting for his Signature not even City, Chelsea or Us, can you imagine if a player like Sanchez leaving a Premier league for La Liga which two teams can only afford him.

We will regret not signing him ourselves

I didn't bet on it because I knew full well it was happening and I'm honest like that. Being the generous guy I am, I told another poster on this forum who is a personal friend about the deal and he went ahead and got £340 out of it.

You might not believe I knew anything about it. Fine. It's a mighty fine guess to say so definitely that he will sign when no-one else said so and for the fee in question to also be pretty much bang on.
I guess the "Jesus Christ mate, laughing smiley, itbwas an off the cuff remark" doesn't clearly point to me not being entirely serious.

But no, I don't think you knew it was happening. You might have heard there was interest, but no, I don't think you're ITK.

He wasn't swayed by that wee chat with Brendan then. It's an excellent signing for Arsenal.

Not sure if you can say they're overstocked really, they did need a quality player out wide like him with pace. They're in a similar situation to us with wingers/attacking midfielders. They have a lot, but none of any real quality bar Ozil really. Just like we have Nani, Valencia, Young, Kagawa, Rooney, Welbeck, Mata all who technically can play out wide, but they more then likely won't be very good. We have Januzaj yes but he's only 19 and had just the 1 season of professional football so we can't expect too much from him.

All I know is that I'm pissed off I missed those posts at the time. I'd have bet on it myself.

At £35m, precisely?

Hmmmm.

You don't half talk a lot of bollocks about Arsenal. You're preaching from the 2007 manual of Arsenal cliches.

We literally don't have a single natural left-sided player. Sanchez changes that.

Fair enough. I mean, Podolski is left-footed but I'll let you off on the basis that he's shit.

I wouldn't say Sanchez is best on the left.

Excellent signing for them. Didn't quite reach his best at Barca but he showed how good he can be for Chile and he'll probably benefit from being pivotal to Arsenal's team.

Great signing for them, they still won't challenge for the title though, same bottlers, different year thats all.

It will be us, chelsea and city fighting for 1st,2nd and 3rd, you can quote me on that.

Competition for the league is getting stiffer, which is why it's a relief that we're finally showing ambition and strengthening in the right departments.

Staying competitive is all we can ask for at the moment - that means not rolling over for the big boys like we did last year and staying within touching distance of the title without imploding after March.

Whether or not we actually go on to win the thing to me is secondary. Sanchez' signing gives me hope that we'll continue to address the mistakes we've committed in the past and move closer to becoming a top club again, rather than an also-rans.

Winning the FA Cup has lifted the pressure off Wenger, meaning failure to lift the league in the next couple of seasons will be forgiven, so long as we keep showing more ambition than we've done in recent years and continue to "move forward", if I can be so euphemistic.

In short, this signing is a show of such ambition. And the fact that it's been done this early is encouraging - particularly when set against the last few transfer windows.

Must be sickening for Liverpool and Levy, the straps on that Cashburden Grove straight jacket seem to be slipping.

Sorry, what? Why are you bringing up defenders?

Or are you trying to claim Podolski has been played centrally?

You're a bit all over the place, al. But i'm the one talking bollocks. Very good.

You're definitely the one talking bollocks.

Having to read your posts about how Arsenal bottle big games and that we finish fourth despite having top quality players because of a mental deficiency ironically only demonstrates one of your own.

Nightmare posting.

By the way, I thought he was brilliant for Chile at the last WC, very good at this one but generally a bit shit at Barca. Fair summary?
He certainly wasn't shit for 'em last season. 19 goals and 10 assists in 29 games, and that's in a side that really doesn't suit his style of play. I'm pretty worried about how good he's going to be for the Arse.

This just shows how good he is. He is considered by some to have had a bad season, yet his stats are ridiculous. If any one of our wingers pulled up stats like those, we would be wanking ourselves to sleep

I thought Sanchez was extremely one-footed in favour of his right? Does he play left for Barca/Chile?

Not really. He struggled to fit into their style of play but I'd say that on balance he was a success over his 3 seasons. One of their best players last year, and he was one of the main reasons why they even got to the last day still in the title race.

He was harshly treated by Martino, who dropped him for Neymar as soon as he came back from injury, despite Alexis performing better than him.

A few times under Guardiola but nothing really since. He's best on the right/centre but can play on the left at a push.

To be fair, stats at Madrid and Barca can be very misleading. 4 out of every 5 games they play are massacres. The gulf between them and the rest of the league is ludicrous.

He is. He plays on the right for both from what I've seen.

Is he really right-footed and plays on the right for club and country? Heh. There's @alastair assuring me he's Arsenal's only naturally left-sided player. He's all over the shop in this thread. Must be the giddiness about being ITK.
