Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

I definitely dont think he would feel burnt out at this stage. While its true that the WC is a very intense and demanding experience (he says like he has any idea) it is only around a month long, from all the squad getting together until flying home. The preparation that came before wouldnt be anything like as physically or mentally draining.

Van Gaal is ready no worries there. It is the players who will be more drained after the whole experience, especially those who made it to the knockout stages. They should all be rested. Especially Van Persie.

True. Not to forget he's been national team manager for two years now. The workload over the two years, would've been significantly lesser than what he's been accustomed to all his life. He'll be relishing going back into work. Now his brain is all warmed up after a month of hectic training. Primed for United, I say.

Hate him. His "aren't I amusing" press conferences got unfunny so quickly when it became apparent all he did was play-up for the cameras. Someone I know who covered him at Blackpool a few times said his demeanour when speaking with the broadcast media and the written press altered dramatically. With the first he'd be his 'chirpy rent-a-quote- Ian' and in the second far more reserved and at times uninterested, presumably because no cameras were trained on him. Clearly a cock who'd sit in front of the mirror practising things say just to see himself being replayed on SSN.

Shit manager too. Couldn't give a toss what he says on anything.

I've always been a fan of Holloway's rants, but can't agree with much of what he said this time. He's entitled to his opinion, of course. He's a firm Manchester United fan and a brick off the old establishment. Unfortunately, the only reason we sacked Moyes was that he just didn't seem to have a plan in place. In football, you can talk all you want about restructuring the club and buying the right players. But, as Alex Ferguson always said, it's what happens on the pitch in front of the known world that matters, and on the pitch we were woeful and devoid of belief.

It's not Moyes' fault. We should have hired someone with greater pedigree. Sir Alex was a loss we couldn't comprehend at the time. Now, with Van Gaal we know we'll come some way in filling that void.

He does but it is wrapped up in his and other pundits continual excuse of David moyes
And how he was a saint and we wronged him, just soo annoying.

I agree, but British Managers tend to stick up for each other. They never get the top jobs, never get given enough time etc.

That Holloway article.

I don't think he'd be writing the same shite if Van Gaal took over Fergie last season, failed as hard as Moyes did and "Moyesey" was taking over from Van Gaal this week. The article would probably have been some drivel about British manager finally getting their chance, Moyesey should have been handed the job last season (because you know, he's British!) and Van Gaal not understanding what Manchester United was about.

It’s a load of nonsense really from Holloway, he is criticising Van Gaal and telling him he not only has to win but win in style at United and then is saying Moyes is hard done by when he was doing a terrible job of doing either of those two things and didn’t have a track record of doing winning in style either. Mangers always stick together because they know at some point they will be the one who is getting criticism and in danger of losing their job so all they do is say give each other time and how all managers who are sacked are hard done by

Players will be scared to death when they see that and he's pointing at them. :)

According to good old Paddy, VG will learn alot from Ryan Giggs. I guess SAF would relish some coaching lessons from Philip Neville.

He probably means LVG will learn about the operations of our club, staff dynamic, organizational structure rather than fundamentals of coaching. :)

VG has been around for long enough not to need anyone to show him the ropes at a new club. Ryan Giggs can become a magnificent assistant manager but to say that VG has to learn from him is massively over the top

He doesn't "have to" learn it but obviously in terms of ethos, history and stature of the club there is a shitload of stuff Giggs will know that LVG will not.

van Gaal won't learn the club's operations, he will start his own structure with his own operations and make way for great change. First thing he needs to do is repair all the damage that was done by Moyes in our various departments.

This guy has worked at Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern. He knows exactly what these sort of club with history and stature expect. For example he won't fall in the 'in for the long term' trap Moyes has fallen into. If he doesn't deliver he will be out.

The hate Van Gaal elicits from the likes of Holloway and O'Neill...

There's so much bitterness from the Moyes brigade. You can tell they're just waiting for Van Gaal to have his first hiccup.

The funny thing is Van Gaal ain't gonna have a hiccup. They are gonna attack everything he does but when he succeeds they'll be left mute.

Thats it, we could finish well next season and you would still hear them bleed on about how had Moyes been given time would have achieved the same. Its like no one wants to acknowledge he was out of his depth but just blame everything/one else for his failings... pathetic

That Holloway article, I tried really hard to continue reading it, but it's just such a pointless article! I hope he had to pay the newspaper for wasting everyone's time.

There was some discussion earlier in the thread about LVG quoted as having only met two people from the club. Here's the full quote, from Jamie Jackson's article in the Guardian. Just thought I'd post for clarity's sake.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’ve only met two people from the daily management at the club – the chief scout and the chief executive officer Ed Woodward. And I’ve met two of the owners. It’s time that I get to know more people at the club.”

Everyone has an agenda. British managers would obviously love to have a job at one of the top clubs and must be fed up seeing foreign managers getting them. Holloway and others like him would love to see LVG fail thus increasing their chances of getting the jobs they not only dream of but believe it is their right to get.
I am sure English players feel the same way with respect to the amount of foreign players at the big prem clubs..

Wasn't today his first day on the job? Surprised there's not been more made of that

I think we will play with a 3 CB

A 3-5-2 / 5-3-2

It does seem to suit our players the best, but we would need one or two new centre backs as we simply don't have the numbers to play that system. Vermaelen hints at a 3-5-2 though, he's really suited to that system.

If we manage to sign Vidal to partner Herrera then I think a 3-5-2 is definitely the way to go, it would give them both the protection they needed to get forward and affect the game offensively and high up the pitch, without compromising the balance of the team.

What are the odds of his schlong coming out in the dressing room this season? The dear old loony eccentric.
