Epic post. Well done sirExactly.
It's as though some posters are incapable of reading between the lines - they just take what's said as gospel; hence all the flip-flopping of moods!
United are clearly approaching this summer's transfer window with a different tact - they're keeping their business under wraps and not making public pronouncements. Has Woody been quoted once this summer? Not that I've seen...
The English press have clearly been briefed that Vidal isn't on our radar - that doesn't mean we are telling the truth. We could be, but football is littered with instances where clubs have been economical with the truth to throw the media off the scent. "Wouldn't sell that mob a virus"...
Finally, Juventus were always going to flex their muscles at yesterday's presser. Losing Conte was a blow, so they were hardly going to follow it up by saying Vidal is for sale - the Juve fans are already up in arms. The way I saw it, they were saying that the club doesn't want to sell and if a deal does happen, it'll be because Vidal forced it. It's a common method for transferring blame from the club to the player.
So, in summary, Vidal might or might not move to United, but press suggestions that he's not on our radar are absurd - there's way too much smoke. Suggestions that we're baulking at the asking prove are also stupid given how much we've spent on Herrera and Shaw.
We go through this roller coaster every time we sign a player, I would've thought - as seasoned muppets - you'd all be used to it by now!
Exactly.

Depends if we want to make it a public pursuit. If not, then he either won't say anything, or he'll deny it. Of course either of those things could mean that actually we are not interested as well.Hopefully Van Gaal puts it to bed one way or the other today if we genuinely do have any interest in signing him.
No I didn't, I went back over a decade and found only three players signed over 30! It's true that we tend to sign young players rather than players at their peak but we still do the latter when we feel we need to and RVP is the prime example. But it's a strategy, not a weakness - if we go the way of City and our team is full of foreign players who didn't develop at the club, I'd be gutted.and that's exactly why he is stuck on MUTV and not on a respected
well you prove my point, kids or olde fella's in the "twilight of their careers"
its rare we go out and buy a player thats is on the cusp of the peak of their career or smack dab in the midst of it....
i personally think thier has been so much smoke just because fans have gone nuts for him(rightly so as he a great player) and it seemed that the press started linking us to him just because there so many fans where linking us to him. and the press quickly learned that if the included the words vidal and man united in thier articles then thier circulation went through the roof. they simply printed what the fans wanted to read.Exactly.

It's a particularly good post because it's a reasonable analysis of the situation rather than a lot of the unrealistic pie in the sky stuff you get from the battle hardened muppets.
Possibly. But to me the Juve comments made no difference. It was the timing of all of these journalists coming out and saying we're not after him. I know on here that it's fashionable to dismiss everything the media say as nonsense but given the timing and the obviously concerted nature of it it's hard not to be sceptical. That had all the feel of preparing the ground for LVG's first press conference. Put the story about that we're not in for him and it becomes less of a headline story out of his first press conference as manager. At this point I'd be very surprised if we get him. Equally I have no idea what the actual reason is as I don't buy that we wouldn't like him.Exactly.

for me it seems at most thier was a vague enquiry from a third party about his availability which juventus rebuffed and that was that.
mainly i just think it was a small story that has been blown out of all proportion becos he is a player fans want to see at united.
Apparently his agent is due in Italy now, I guess that's some sort of progress.
at least those times we seemed to have genniuly strong interest, even possibly bidding, this one seems to have been at most a quick enquiry that got blown out of all proportion.Indeed, this looks like all the sagas that ended up in disappointment - Sneijder, Hazard, Benzema etc. We're interested but we have no chance.
United have signed Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao but Van Gaal is chasing another midfielder, although the club are not pursuing Arturo Vidal, of Juventus. He also wants a centre half, another left back and ideally a winger-cum-forward. Ángel di María, of Real Madrid, is a potential target.
Exactly.

My expectation is that LVG will kill this today in his press conference and it'll be on to the next one.
I'm yelling timberrrrrrrrr
Earlier in the thread people thought Ducker was the man, now that he's saying stuff people on here don't like to hear then we're not buying his shite.Meh, I know it's Ducker but I'm not buying this shite. As said before, the club is keeping its cards very close to its chest.
Makes sense and he's a typical Madrid signing. Although they did just sign Kroos. If Madrid sell Khedira then I can see them going in for Vidal after

Completely different player. They'll lose a midfielder with energy when Khedira goes, need a replacement in similar mould.Makes sense and he's a typical Madrid signing. Although they did just sign Kroos.
I wish I could just fast forward to the first game of the season and be rid of all this nonsense. Yet at the same time I can't help but constantly check for new updates. feck the modern age.
Don't doubt that for a minute. Other clubs manage these quick deals. And they could sign him in a matter of days.
To be fair it's mainly Madrid who do. Usually a week or so since their first interest to a signing unless it's a record deal in which case they like to prolong it.Don't doubt that for a minute. Other clubs manage these quick deals.

surely that should be if khedira goes? they may may want him to play with kroos considering how well they worked together for germany.Completely different player. They'll lose a midfielder with energy when Khedira goes, need a replacement in similar mould.
Arsenal signed Sanchez a matter of hours after the world cup. Real Madrid signed Kroos today just as he fecking stepped off the plane after the WC. I could go on and on.Point to some that happened "quickly"?
Where's this coming from exactly? Chelsea were negotiating for Costa and Luis for ages, likewise Arsenal and Sanchez. Madrid and Kroos. Barca and Suarez.Don't doubt that for a minute. Other clubs manage these quick deals.
Most of those had been negotiated before the tournament even started to be fair.Arsenal signed Sanchez a matter of hours after the world cup. Real Madrid signed Kroos today just as he fecking stepped off the plane after the WC. I could go on and on.
Barca took ages with Suarez did they? After he bit Chiellini he was a Barca player in no time at all.Where's this coming from exactly? Chelsea were negotiating for Costa and Luis for ages, likewise Arsenal and Sanchez. Madrid and Kroos. Barca and Suarez.
I'd say between the time that it became clear we wanted to get Herrera and the deal being confirmed was shorter than almost any other big money signing so far this summer, the closest possibly being Fabregas.
Basically, it's crap, we're not some special case whereby we take a mammoth time compared to other clubs because of some weird way we operate, that's just how transfers in general work.
