And both clubs were linked to those players for ages, basically in the exact same fashion we've been linked to Vidal, only with arguably more evidence that they were in for them. They didn't just sign the players out of the blue.

Are you forgetting how long it took Real to get Bale last summer?

Nah I would say that was really quick.
 
I always used to laugh at posters who suggest that Football Manager affects the way people think about football nowadays but now I'm starting to come around to that. It's as if people think all you have to do to submit a bid is pick a price off the top of your head and press click on an email or something.
 
I think it's looking increasingly obvious that the only players being brought in are those who really want to play for us. Mitten reported as much and LVG himself is really pushing the importance of unity and some are underestimating his focus on this I reckon.

Both Herrera and Shaw had us as priority and, by all accounts, they've really bought into the club. I don't know about anyone else but that's what particularly excites me about them coming and gives me plenty of confidence that they're going to deliver and especially when the chips are down.

I reckon Vidal will be a United player if he wants the move for the right reasons but not if LVG thinks his priority is simply getting the best payday. LVG is looking to build a team, not a collection of individuals, and both his and our history prove that that's a philosophy that delivers.

We need to take our focus off the individual - look at what SAF achieved and particularly with some of the players heading for the exit right now.

Sanchez signed in a matter of hours after the World Cup, the Kroos transfer went through in the time between putting him putting his foot out of the plane and stepping it down. That's remarkable.

Both of which happened for longer than this "Vidal" saga has been going on for considering rumours we were interested aside, it's only started to look like we are making any actual movements last week.

They obviously weren't arranged in a matter of days and probably took a couple of weeks to complete (especially Sanchez to Arsenal as there werer rumours spreading for around 3 weeks prior to transfer) but they made their moves quick. We did with Herrera and Shaw this Summer too.
 
How long do we think before we hear the rumour about Bayern putting in a bid for Vidal?
I don't think the lad will be a Juve player next season...

We will make further signings,
They will plug holes in the squad,
They will be perfect for LVG's system,
They will want to play for Manchester United,
They will significantly improve the squad,

Nobody has a fecking clue who they are, but they're coming

I don't think Ed has moved on from the fax machines yet, that's the problem. Supposedly Juve dumped their one they used for transfers a few months ago. For all we know he already threw in a £60m bid but it never reached 'em. Classic Ed.

I wouldn't be too sure when Woody's involved. He has trouble working the fax machine so it probably takes him more than 5 minutes to learn how to shoot an email off.

Mitten has been briefed to that effect - he actually said as much. I almost always hate it when people suggest things like this, but I imagine that's United covering themselves against fans being disappointed with the summer's work. If we appear to miss out on big targets, it can be because they 'didn't really want to play for United'.

Of course, there's a strong argument that that's a sound transfer strategy, and it's probably a genuine factor in decisions. I just think Mitten's obviously only been told to appease the fans.

Of course Juve will say "Vidal's not for sale" - its the first rule of negotiation. Except they've gone on to effectively say "we'd like to keep him if he wants to stay" which is route one to selling him but pinning the blame on his desire to leave rather than the club wanting the cash and appeasing the fans.

Seems fairly clear that we've spoken to his agent and a deal has at least been mooted. Evidently we were, at some stage, interested. No reason why we wouldn't still be.

At the end of the day, we clearly want new faces. I'm happy to let LVG decide who, he's the manager at the end of the day and has a good record. If he likes Vidal, fine - if he likes someone else better then so be it.

Forget about structuring the deal, forget about covering some of the contract Juve would have to pay Vidal, forget about formal esquires to establish a ball park figure, forget about using his agent as an intermediate.

Just a simple fax:
"Hi Juvetus this is Manchester United we are offering £45m for Vidal take it or leave it thanks, Blair x".

5 minutes, guys.
 
Did Moratta say he is not for sale at any price or something like that? No.

In fact he did mention that nothing they can do if player wants to leave. So maybe they are just trying to show their fans intent of keeping them but then had to sell because Vidal wanted to leave?

They also didn't say "Vidal is not for sale" they said "We will not put Vidal up for sale" which is completely different. It's suggesting that they won't actively try to sell him, but would accept a bid high enough, just like anyone would.

If you think that's how it works then you're daft.

Kroos agent will ahve been speaking to clubs for months, including us. Sanchez agent will have been the same as its probably been clear to him for a while he was on the move.
