Anyone who starts giving it the bollocks about Van Gaal should adapt to the club, stop and think about that for a few minutes please.

Doubt we'll have much of that to be honest though.

Pathetic tweet'er. The commercial side will ever only impact pre-seasons and some winter-season breaks. Like the two-week break in January the club usually has. Otherwise, if van Gaal cannot adapt to a schedule the club has adapted to for years and years, then he's at fault.

Ladyman knows feck all. Just making an educated guess based on LvG's answers about giving the current players time/preferring signing young players than experienced ones.

I doubt he'd give a definitive answer like "It ain't happening" if he knew nothing.

Didn't he also say Herrera is not happening? I doubt any of the British journos are in the loop like they were last season and are resorting to wild guesses or speculation based on some lines by the likes of LvG or Woodward.

Haha imagine If we were never interested in Vidal and Liverpool signed him

I still think that the only journalist that knows something about our transfer business, is Andy Mitten. Maybe because I'm in muppet mode, but media in Italy and Chile seem convinced that Vidal is leaving, while English media claim that no contact has been made. They know feck all.

Just catching up with what's gone on in this thread overnight - it's beginning to sound a lot like last summer. Having been quiet, there's now lots of bluster from Woodward, with little sign of activity.

Surely someone at the club can see how inadequate parts of our squad are? I mean, does LvG really need time to assess the midfield? Does he really need time to realise we've lost Vidic and Ferdinand, leaving us with only three centre backs?

Jones, Evans, Smalling, Keane. Keane was a regular for Blackburn last season, if he's not in contention, something is wrong.

Yeah it's a lot like summer except for the fact that we've already spent double the amount last season and there's still 40 days to go before transfer market closes.

Well so Ducker and Ogden have basically listed out the same 4 names.

I find it hard to believe those two lists, since all are defenders and none of them could really solve our main issues in midfield.

If I have an option of addressing our midfield or defensive issues I know where I would be recruiting for sure.

He probably knows he needs new players but he might wnat time to evaluate what kind of players he needs. For example - Vidal and Carvalho are not the same type of players, only after training the team can he know which one of them he needs.

Losing Vidic and Ferdinand and promoting Keane won't really cut it, imo. Carrick will be filling in at the back before the year is out.

The main thrust of my point is that Woodward is basically repeating what he said last summer ad verbatim. He should quit all the 'we're prepared to break our transfer record' bollocks - it whips the fans up into a frenzy and then the club invariably doesn't follow through with the big talk.

I'm very dispirited by LvG saying he wants up to a month to assess the squad before moving on transfers. Maybe I'm in a minority, but the players we need - a CB, a CM and a winger - are absolute no brainers. By the look of it, we're going to do business perilously close to the end of the transfer window, and that's when you end up getting overpriced dross.

Also, LvG was complaining about how the commercial aspects of the tour harm preparation. Yet if he goes with his plan on deciding which players to sign after the tour, incoming players will be at a disadvantage because they'll have had virtually no pre season with us. That's hardly great prep.

We just seem so cumbersome in the transfer market. Shaw and Herrera don't anywhere near adders the glaring deficiencies in our squad. I'm disappointed that LvG seems to be starting from scratch in terms of his assessment of players, just like Moyes did. Thank God the club proceeded with the purchase of the above two players, otherwise we'd be sat here having lost Giggs, Evra, Vidic and Ferdinand, and having signed no one.

That's a fair point. You always risk losing out to other clubs by being so slow in evaluating though. Arsenal strongly linked with Carvalho, for instance.

Obviously those lists could be bollocks but if not I'd be worried that we still don't have anything sorted yet. . You would have assumed we'd got a proper centre mid lined up, and of van gaals comments about youth are to be taken seriously then vermaelen wouldn't be on the list. Guess we will have to wait and see but I think it's baffling that the club are waiting until so late in the marker again.

If we are prepared to break the world transfer record, the only players worth that sort of money are at Barca and RM:

Messi
Suarez
Neymar
Bale

Wonder who it will be?

I would rather we spend it on two or three top players but not quite in that bracket like Vidal, Di Maria, Ramsey, Reus, Hummels, etc

Woody never said about breaking the world transfer record. I would really love Bale here but can't see Madrid discarding him as he would eventually be tasked with replacing Ronaldo's goals once he starts to slow down a bit.

There's a major difference this time around - we've already lost four key members of the first team and even a few fringe ones. More will probably follow in the coming weeks. The two signings so far were and absolute necessity. Last season we kept most of the title winning squad intact. 40 days isn't necessarily a whole lot, especially if we keep dithering for 3-4 weeks like LvG claims he will.

We need to invest in more players to get into that vital top 4 spot. The sooner the better.

Woodward talked about breaking our transfer record. Judging by the list of players the press seemed to have been briefed with, I'd say Woodward is taking the piss with quotes about breaking records.
