Would be a bad decision imo. Managers should be selected for football, rather than romantic reasons.
How about both??
Eh??

It might just have been to say nice things. We see stuff like that often
I'd be hibernating until the end of the season if Moyes was still here.
You've got one way of that being proven posted in this very thread.
We'll see in time. You have nothing to base the assumption that it would "automatically end in disaster" on. Nothing whatsoever.
How about both??

@Matador8 - I agree, the issues with Bayern and Barca, respectively, stemmed partially from intrusion into various elements of Van Gaal's management of the team. The way that I have always viewed Van Gaal and his philosophy is akin to a machine and its parts. By its very definition, for philosophy and vision to work, the logic must be consistent and followed to its logical end. As it relates to a functioning machine, all parts must adhere to their function in order for output to be great, and with football, a vision and philosophy of playing, thinking and working must be adhered on all levels of the club, from the bottom to the top. He's an all or nothing guy. If you stick with him, his system is technically perfect. If you contribute to it's decline, it will fail, but Van Gaal's vision and philosophy is brilliant. his failings elsewhere were in my opinion due to issues outside of Van Gaal.
Agreed. Article like this with such headline is unnecessary! For christ sake, the new boss is only days into the job and they were talking about Giggsy's future. Let the man do his job and let Giggsy do his job and we will talk after one or two years or three years.. What's the hurry!!!If Van Gaal's a success and wants to carry on, Giggs can wait.
Like Rafa? Scolari?Errrm, last season we gave the biggest job in football to a manager who's never won anything or managed in the CL.
Yes there is always a risk, but appointing someone with a proven record will significantly reduce that risk.

"These are small and the ones out there are far away....small...far away" classic Father Ted![]()
Whoever gets it first wins a prize.
Shit, I remember hearing all sorts from United fans in 2005, "Keane will take over from Fergie surely!", while Keane did gain Sunderland promotion, United is a different scale. Shit even Moyes was one of the best managers in the league, United is a different story altogether. Guardiola is an anomaly, if you listen to him talk, his philosophy, his intelligence comes across, Giggs was just spouting clichés
Because m8 if you read back there was an article saying that United's hierarchy saw him as a replacement for van Gaal hthWhy are we even talking about Giggs taking over from LVG?
First of all he hasn't proved shit and secondly LVG has just arrived here and not even managed a single game yet.
Yea I mean we as in everyone.Because m8 if you read back there was an article saying that United's hierarchy saw him as a replacement for van Gaal hth
Giggs looked woefully short of any of the qualities of a great manager in that documentary.
That's painfully true imo. Hopefully that's where van Gaal steps in and opens their eyes about modern coaching.
"Imagining the conversation"? You are taking these a bit too seriously, mate. Theres no need to get worked up.
I like this picture. It is as if Giggs was saying, "We did our summer tour every year and we are quite used to that", and LvG said "don't you tell the press this!"... Giggsy obviously is very used to the commercial side of the club. Under Sir Alex, things always went seamlessly. Differences always resolved behind closed doors. LvG will learn.![]()
The scene in the tactics room was worrying, but it was the speech just before the last game that sealed it. The motivational instincts of a man describing a motorway slip road on valium.
Pleonastic. Not sure Piers would know the look or sounds of a winner. Being a loser and an Arsenal supporter.
Pleonastic.
Watching MUTV on tour and I get the distinct impression that we won't sign anyone at least until after the Real Madrid game. He's adamant that he wants to give the existing players a chance. He's a man of his word and that means he won't sign anybody which might damage the confidence of prospected players already within the club. Respect for the man, he's not going to buy willy-nilly.
Yeah when it comes to United, we can be taking it a bit seriously. I thought you were criticising people making up conversations. If you weren't then I apologise. How was my post 'worked up'? And how is 'imagining the conversation' not a good description for what you're doing here:
Possibly you're the one taking things a bit too seriously?
I agree that we should not be signing just for the sake of signing (to please some fans and transfer muppets). If he's that good, he would be able to get the most out of the the existing players and it goes without saying we have loads of talents within the club (I am happy as long as Fellaini and Young are being sold that is!Watching MUTV on tour and I get the distinct impression that we won't sign anyone at least until after the Real Madrid game. That's the beauty of him managing at United imo. We're a traditional club who believe the manager has the final say on every aspect of the footballing side of the club. Iv'e read reports that he's told Ed Woodward that we need to shorten next seasons summer tour so the team can be better prepared for the opening game. He's a perfectionist as we've already seen with half of Carrington being ripped up within days of him being appointed. I'll be so glad to see the back of the infamous "Zombie" football and over excessive wide play. he's just a perfect match imo, and can't wait for the First game.
I don't mind wide play at all, but it depends on what the purpose of it is. For Moyes, wide play was the end in itself, whereas, with Van Gaal, wide play is the means to an end. If I recall correctly, Van Gaal likes his wide men to stay very wide so that the ball can be switched from one side to the other, stretching out the players compacting the centre in order to penetrate the central space opened with incisive passing. If that is indeed what we'll see then fantastic.
Can't help but smile at those training vids. He's bonding well with the lads it seems.
These pre-season games are going to be very tough, but it won't be the results that matter it will be the response to any setbacks we suffer.
