That's something Ferguson and Van Gaal have in common then. Van Gaal is blunt, but protective of his players, always has been and probably will be from his 63th and on. Maybe he said something that was taken the wrong way or something slipped off his tongue, in general he is a manager who only names individual players by exception, when they have done extremely well in someway. He'll take the heat himself, and judge perfomances in terms of 'we' when speaking in public. I don't expect you will see hem critisizing individual players in public a lot.

Where did you guys find a video of the interview? And was it complete or just some snippets? Really looking for a site that shows all our press conferences and pre and post match talks, because I can't really find what I want on youtube. Or was it MUTV? I waited and waited but after they showed 30 seconds of Cleverly and then again 12 minutes of Paddy I turned it off.
A lot of the Moyes supporters last season pretty much revealed themselves to be the shockingly low-standards type. Obviously these folks are still United supporters so I've no doubt we'll hear from them about how Van Gaal's manner and approach is unacceptable for such a 'moral' club like Manchester United and all that other romantic nonsense.
Van Gaal like you said is refreshing and I don't know why anyone would criticise him for stating the obvious as he's done so far. Ferguson was a complete arsehole at times during his tenure and I find it strange some people are going to reject Van Gaal for similar behaviour.
Contrary to this idea he's a 'hard' manager to work for, I actually think Van Gaal has a tad more warmth than Ferguson as this early stage.

Absolutely, he is the type of manager I would have like to succeed Ferguson! Mind you he acts as the perfect palette cleanser for last season. If anything it shows the glazers and the board the importance of experience and having a patriarchal figure in charge. Everything we lacked last season and the results spoke for themselves.

It's a bit hit and miss sometimes with the listings on MUTV with programmes that are scheduled to be on but I watch the channel more than any other to be honest particularly leading up to match days and post match days.

Some in this thread have already suggested LVG is over stepping the mark with some of his criticism and I'm simply offering the view that there's nothing wrong with his behaviour thus far.
I really really hope we don't stick with this 3-5-2 formation, we have no reason for playing 5 defenders. I don't understand why he doesn't buy the right players for his famous 4-3-3 philosophy.

It's not the United way to say there's no United way though.
Because we already have great forwards that you can't drop. If one of them get injured we'd probably switch, but when they are fit itll be a 3-4-1-2. His philosophy is the same anyways, just the formation can change depending on the personnel.
And its not 5 defenders. Its 2 wide players who are both wing backs and wingers to provide the width.

I wouldn't mind this 'United Way' thing if we actually played like it. So far it seems it only applies to giving Moyes time and playing 442. If we had breathtaking wingers and played at a fast tempo i could understand it but this invented tradition is just standing in the way of progress.
Why? Then your either shoehorning two of three of our best players into positions that are not there best. Or you have at least £50 million of talent on the bench and having to buy another £50 million worth of players, when other parts of the squad need addressing.

Basically the 'United Way' is a made up description of playing good attacking football in a very particular way. Completely ignoring all the other great teams over the years that have played great football with different types of players, strategies and formations. It's basically some of United's alumni and supporters version of "things were better in the old days."
And that matters one iota, because?
Because he has seen the teams we have built with Busby etc and witnessed it first hand.
And because, if ever someone was going to be romantic about it, it would be someone like him.

Were not playing with 5 defenders, we're playing with 3 and two wing backs if you could even call them that. It's a much more attacking system than a straight up 4-3-3
reading through this thread, some of you are worry warts. Don't think there's really been anything we've seen thus far to worry about. In fact, in feels like balance has been restored at the club.
Part of me feels that Ogden trots out too many cliches in this article and risks burying his own key points as a result. The most important thing Ogden highlights is that under Van Gaal training is about working with the ball not trying to get fitter. He says that but then starts talking about fear and control, which run totally contrary to what he says about Van Gaal sharing jokes with all the players from the superstars down. Ogden goes part the way towards saying Van Gaal is getting respect because his methods are making Man Utd better, but then he veers off course into the already established narrative about Van Gaal the dictator. He should've stuck with Van Gaal the professor. Its because the United players can see how Van Gaal's way will improve them as footballers that they're so bought into what he wants. Its because the United players could see how by not working with the ball their technique was getting dull in games that they gave up on Moyes.

Agreed. The United Way first and foremost equates to success on a regular basis. If that means dumping our wingers - who have been terrible for a few years now - then so be it.
