Carrick, Blind, Jones, Rojo all out for the Chelsea game - What now?!

Im gonna remain positive. Bring Shaw in to left back, this is McNairs chance to sign and i think he will. Play Herrera or Rooney CDM. Give RVP game time again or keep Rooney up top and play Perreira in possibly. If Shaws not ready im happy for Young to go left back and play Di Maria. Still think we'll do em.

The extent that several people have gone to in order to leave Di Maria out of their predicted starting XI :lol:

This is a good opportunity for Di Maria to get back into the team.

With all the players being injured being defensive ones, I'm not sure he will. It's a difficult one, but I don't think these injuries mean that he will definitely play.

We have people putting in the likes of RVP who hasn't played for months and Falcao who's form has been far worse than Di Maria's, and they aren't defensive players. Some people mentioning Pereira who not only is away on international duty, has next to no first team football experience, he also isn't a defensive player. We simply don't have many defensive minded options so Di Maria will most definitely start with Fellaini or Rooney having to play in a more defensive position. It's really not a difficult decision to make at all.

Don't think RVP is "match fit" enough to start.Probably Falcao though everyone know what's my opinion about him.

What I don't understand is that why did LVG have to announce these in the press conference today, surely it makes sense to stay quiet and not let everyone know

Better now. Imagine he didn't say a thing then tomorrow arrived and none of those four pitched up. Old Trafford would have burnt down(even though we are playing at Stamford Bridge) and fans around the world would have committed suicide.

That would be nice to discover that Van gaal transformed Rafael into a CM. :wenger:

Then he puts in a MOTM performance, scoring a hat-trick and smashing Matic in two with a perfectly legal challenge. Then we send a copy of the match highlights to that dickhead, Pogba, in an unmarked brown paper envelope.

That is true. Would certainly have Di Maria in the team ahead of those two. I don't think LVG will do it, but he could bring Valencia into midfield.

Physioroom says Carrick back April 26. Others have no return date :nervous:

I checked it too sometime ago but knew that it will be 'no return date.' That's because LvG has not disclosed details and this press conf. is first time anyone found out. Physioroom guys have no additional info than us right now. No Journalist or otherwise had a clue before either. Later this weekend we will find out more maybe. If not, by Monday if they return to training. Given LvG was hopeful of Jones and Blind returning for this game, I assume they should make it next weekend.

How many think it's a bit of mind games? Is LVG the kind of person to pull these kinda games?

That's another one! Leave a 60 million pound player who is the league's 2nd highest assister on the bench even during a mini-injury crisis, in order to play a right-winger-turned-right-back in centre midfield and to bring in an out of favour right back who has spent the last few months in the reserves. Utterly mental.

Don't know how anyone think we should start Valencia in midfield ahead of Di Maria tbh.

Young drops back to left back
Di Maria to replace Young out wide
Herrera drops deeper
Rooney plays in behind Falcao while adding 3rd man to midfield.

Well seeing as the injury crisis has exclusively affected either defenders or the players we rely on to screen them, I think it absolutely makes sense to leave the leagues 2nd highest assister (three whole assists more than Jason Puncheon) on the bench on the basis he's proven himself to be defensive liability in almost every game he's played. Bringing him into the team in the context of this injury crisis would be a much harder decision to justify.

Surely Shaw will play rather than Blackett.

He doesn't play LCB does he? If anything he just might play over Young in the LWB role(our best player right now), but I really think we will switch back to the 3-5-2, which means there isn't a position for Young except LWB. I don't believe Young can't play the ST role that Di Maria played away at our win at the Emirates last year.

This isn't mind games, he isn't the type to lie about his players being injured

We don't have a defensive midfielder to come into the side so Fellaini or Rooney will have to play deeper and Di Maria will play. It's so simple, this thread is hurting my head.

He said Jones and Blind could be available. I really hope they can play.
Carrick and Rojo are definitely out. Evans is still suspended.

My main thing is I really don't want to see Falcao or RVP start (the former because he's crap, and the latter because he's been injured and is often crap)... If LVG insisted on dropping Rooney into midfield I think I'd almost prefer to see Mata as a false 9 or something...

-------------------De Gea-------------
Valencia----Smalling---McNair-----Shaw

Yeah, pretty much. The biggest worry for me is having one of 'em back up front.

Feck it, I dunno, I was worried we'd struggle without Carrick, but without the other three as well I'm proper in squeaky butt mode. I still think Mourinho will be happy with a draw against us though rather than going gung ho, so hopefully we can nab at least a point.

I disagree with that. I wouldnt want to see them picked ahead of Rooney (in the current circumstances) but with things being what they are I would be more than happy for either of them to get a start, to be honest. Falcao because he is more match fit and the eternal optimist in me wants to see him seize this opportunity. RVP because the realist in me thinks he would probably be the more sensible choice.

If RVP was match fit Id have no concerns about him starting, I think all the negativity around RVP is way overdone at the moment.

We will play the normal 4141 system but get Herrera to play the Carrick role. Di Maria will replace him and we move fellaini to occupy the left fullback instead of the right fullback he normally attacks. Fellaini is 19th tall and previous fullbacks he played against were respectively 1,71 (moreno) and 1,76m (zabaleta). Ivanovic on the other hand is 1,88m and out of those 3 opponents the best defender. On the other side is most likely filipe Luis who is 1,82 giving Fellaini the 12 cm advantage again.

Evans or McNair for Jones. We will be fine. 2-1 to us.

Edit: if azpilicueta plays, there is a 16 cm advantage to Fellaini in his wide target man role.
