I don't think he can do that any more now , we can't have the uncertainly going on indefinitely, the offer has been on the table for ages now so if he's still umming, and arring (and I don't think he is) then he needs a deadline giving to him to make his mind up so we can move to replace him with best possible asap.
Surely there aren't folk who are still optimistic about this? Fair fecks to you, but I'm sure a few were the same as me and gave up a good month ago or two or so.

He may very well stay silent until Real actually put in a bid, wouldn't expect him to go public about wanting to leave unless/until he has to. Once their manager situation is dealt with, I'm sure we'll get our answer.

That is exactly the thing. I would love nothing more than to DDG sign the contract, but we cannot let this drag on until we don't know something. Maybe the club want to sign a GK before letting go of DDG and thus have been mum on this. Whatever be the case, I hope we get our business done quickly and that would include letting DDG go if he wants to.

I agree. But I also get the feeling that Valdes is our back up plan if he goes which means that the club probably aren't in any hurry for him to make a decision.
I read that interview yesterday and that article takes those quotes completely out of context. Casillas was asked about De Gea going to Madrid (basically asking IF he goes) and Casillas went on about he sees himself still at Madrid and would welcome the competition just like he has welcomed it at international level.

I think that he is genuinely torn between staying with us and going to Madrid, hence the no news form him on the whole thing. He's obviously loved here, and I think that he genuinely loves playing for us and appreciates the support he gets. But Madrid is a huge pull for him, and its a huge decision for him to make. Given their love of the dramatic, I think they'll present a new manager first before any new signings. Perez gets max publicity and the new manager gets to present the new players as his own.

Benitez being the manager suddenly draws into much sharper focus that Real are a rival - not some exotic, far away 'idea', but a rival that we really wanna stop cheering on (via Ronaldo) and view them as we view a club like, say, Chelsea.
Difference being Chelsea haven't taken our last two World Class players...
Plenty of our own fans don't like Mourinho and found him hard to root for during his Real years, though admittedly that dislike won't ever be on the scale of Benitez. But I do think it's a good thing to have that animosity - we *should* be viewing Real and the like as rivals if we want to get back to the top, anything less is smalltime.
Let Liverpool fans adopt Real as their vicarious CL club now that Rafa's at the helm, knowing that a couple of United rejects are scoring and stopping the goals

We probably didn't bother offering him a contract. Presumably the club don't think he's very good and are happy to offload him on the cheap and bring in someone else. The suggestion that De Gea is considering his options is all just a smokescreen. The club are forcing him out but want to paint De Gea as the villain. It's so obvious.
