I agreeRamos is part of the furniture there - the boy who made good from a rough estate in Seville to be current vice captain and future captain of Real Madrid. He's more Spanish than jamón.
Get a grip lads.
Only if we're signing two CBs or abandoning LVG's notion of a RCB/LCB side preference divide. Otherwise signing Ramos would see us drop the best CB we currently have to the bench while leaving him beside a weaker partner.
Put it this way: I'd sooner see us have Smalling + Otamendi in the first team than Ramos + Rojo.
Beyond that though, it would worry me in terms of our approach to this transfer window. I was hoping we'd have one similar to Chelsea's last year, where we quickly bring in quality players who can slot straight into the most glaring gaps in our first team. Targeting Ramos would suggest we're still looking for glory signings, which would make me very nervous...
Otamendi was arguably the best cb in Spain last year. Not really another Vidic, plus he would probably cost more to sign than Ramos would.I think that' overstated. Fairly sure Smalling and Jones played a bunch of games as pair in central defence ahead of Rojo. Plus he's played right footers together before, at Bayern.
I just hate the way we've had so much success with a certain type of transfer strategy but now Woody's taken over we're trying the whole galactico approach, and not to great effect. Far rather be signing the next Vidic tbh. Ottamendi fits that description much better.
Higuain
Ozil
Di Maria
3 players in last 3 years that have went to Perez to try and force contract negotiations, all sold.
Ramos probably next

What could possibly go wrong with paying silly money to sign a reckless centre-back who has always been heavily reliant on his athleticism, as he enters his 30s?
Looked like LVG had abandoned the right/left foot thing by the end of the season anyway, what with Smalling/Jones being the preferred partnership.
Who said we were paying silly money?
Equates to €65mThat's a very specific number![]()
The truth is that United is acting very wisely. I imagine they are aware that moving the next captain, with everything he represents is very complicated but surely they have put Florentino in a very difficult position. Ramos is not di Maria and Ozil , is Spanish and the hero of la Décima. The press can eat Florentino if he allows it , so he will have to sit down and negotiate with Ramos, paying more than he´d like. Moreover surely United knows that de Gea is gone but extending the situation while tapping players is going to get the socios very nervous. Marca has not written anything yet , surely will be the cover tomorrow and the only theme in the coming days. If in the end the issue is extended , he will end up paying 35-40 million for de Gea
Why would this siutation force him to paying 35-40m for De Gea?
I think I've mixed it up a bit; extending negotiations by a player and causing his team can use the situation to ask for others. Right now the situation is " if you want to negotiate, I will force you too to negotiate for your players even if you don´t want" ,while he has to sit at the table with United will be many rumors, which he doesn´t want.If we arrive to the end of August and de Gea is still not signed Florentino will have to bend the knee and pay what asked. Why would this siutation force him to paying 35-40m for De Gea?

You are giving us too much credit, unlike your club we don't get involved in politics/specific transfer tactics, etc. We are still too naive in this regard, especially the Woody/LvG combo and have to learn a lot from the likes of RM/Barca/Chelsea regarding transfers as well as contract renewals.
hasn't played less than 40 games per season through his decade long career in Madrid, and averages 45 club games per season for the past 5 seasons).
Tbh I'd cream myself if we got Ramos and otemendi in.
Never happening in a million years though.
I meant post Fergie when we became Europe's biggest spenders in no timeCould you specify this? Why especially them?

Rio got plenty of criticism for being too precious and plenty of the above mentioned fans would easily take Vidic over Rio or even Terry above him as well. Ramos, can, you know, like, actually defend.
People are forgetting that we need a RB and that Ramos can play there...
Yeah that is bullshit. From what quarters did Rio get flack for being precious? Not on the Caf I bet. Those 3 defenders you mentioned are recognized as some of the best defenders we've seen this century. What body of work can you point to to suggest Ramos belongs in that category? I see you used the David May argument, if that's all you got then keep looking.
He has 3 La Liga titles which is 1 less than Terry and 2 less than Vidic but none of those or Rio have anywhere close to the same level of domestic honours if they were vs the Barca side he's been against the last 10 years. All of them have 1CL except for Terry who missed the final Chelsea won. International level he's won more than all 3 combined 2 European championships and a World Cup with 128 caps for Spain.
How you can possibly claim Ramos doesn't belong in the same group as those defenders is laughable.
