I don't mind his cuntishness but I do have a problem with players who do stupid thing and get punished for them.

It's all well and good saying we need someone with a bit of attitude but we'd be cursing that same attitude if it got him sent off or sees him making a critical error. Remember the criticism Smalling got when he was sent off against City? Or some of Fellaini's stupid cards? Expect the same from Ramos. Same thing when it comes to individual errors, even at his best he's capable of making some very poor decisions.

The Suarez example a few posts above you counters this argument. Barca paid nearly 75m for a player who just couldnt stop doing stupid shit. They never looked back...

Suarez was out of this world when Barca bought him, still brilliant now. Ramos isn't worth the risk in my opinion. There's other experienced defenders I'd prefer to get in.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if we got Ramos in; just as long as we don't see him as the solution for our defence. Would still want Otamendi or someone like that.

Perhaps the biggest ar$ehole in world football, in terms of his attitude.
I do not care how good he is, or has the potential to be, we shouldn't go anywhere near him.

I'd much rather we go for Otamendi. At least he seems to want to play for us. Ramos looks like he is throwing a tantrum because he wants his club to treat him better. In any case, this rumour is a non-starter, and I'm glad for that.

I can't believe people would prefer Otamendi over this guy. Ramos is a proven hero amongst men. Get him in.

I don't think him or his agent have said a word, therefore I doubt he's using us (yet) to get a better deal. Its the papers running that Woody asked about him.
yeah, this is what I know as well. It seems all the ruckus came from the news that United inquiry him as part of the De Gea deal. United know that Ramos was underpaid and use it to their advantage

This one reeks of someone playing games and using United to get their way. Could be either Ramos (more money) or Real (sign for less), probably both. I'm sure we'd take him if he was truly available or truly interested but I don't think either is the case.

It's weird that we aren't linked with Dani Carvajal, the one Madrid player who could possibly be available and would improve us a lot.

He has played for RM since he was 10 years old and has a 4 year contract left, I doubt he's available. Danilo is replacing the 32 year old Arbeloa.

Well if we are intent on a scatter gun approach at unavailable Real Madrid players, lets atleast get the sensible ones out of the way first. :D

I prefer Otamendi/Hummels, but let's be real, DDG won't be sold for 50M, at best it'll be 20M plus addons, hence we'd better of getting Ramos in return, not a bad investment. I'm sure if DDG is not in the equation we won't be looking at him, but at least this way we got something in return if the deal goes through, and hopefully this will make Madrid tell us to feck off :D

I'd take Ramos in a heartbeat, I'm sure I've missed something because there's a lot of hate for him here for some reason. If we sign him at RB and Otamendi at CB, our defence is looking pretty decent.

He's likely to be a starter for Real Madrid next season. I believe they brought Danilo in to add some competition, not to replace him. Danilo can also play other positions like centre mid.

Shaw - Otamendi - Smalling - Ramos

It'd be the best defense in the world. But I don't see us signing both Ramos and Otamendi. And playing Ramos at RB is a bit of a waste.

Not a big fan of him personally. Have seen him make silly mistakes quite a lot. Plus he is a c*nt, not that I mind that, we need characters like that in this team.

@carvajal Do you think his wage is a bit criminal compared to Real's overall level?

On the one hand I understand Ramos and another to Madrid. Ramos wins now 5.5 million after-tax and asks 10 (Madrid offers 7). Has a contract until 2017 and would be extended for three more years, until 2020. It is a good deal but insufficient when compared with the 12 million net that Bale will win this season or the 8 of Benzemá. Ramos probably thinks "I've been here eight years and a newcomer earns twice as me, but I am who won la décima." Not only Bale, but Kroos or James also exceed him. Regarding Madrid, in the past they have had bad experiences with "contracts for life" to the legends. Now it seems fair to pay what he asks, but what will happen when he is 32 years and no longer has the level. He will have to leave (maybe for free)and the club will have to pay a fortune (as happened with Raul, Guti and probably Iker now). In addition, his agent, when a relative is representing a player there are usually problems. After all these years I do not know who is the agent of Casillas, but everyone knew the father of Ozil and René Ramos, Ramos brother. He is very aggressive in the negotiations and releases information and discontent to the press complicating things.
These are the salaries, always after tax: http://ecodiario.eleconomista.es/fu...rid-jugador-por-jugador.html#.Kku8sBE7aF52bws .
The truth is I'm a little scared after what I'm reading in press .The good values and manners of football (we buy what we want without give a shit about the rest) are disappearing :)

I have spent years reading people's opinions on this forum about how Ramos is not solid enough defensively and is ridiculously overrated. Has he suddenly become a world-class defender overnight?

@carvajal yeah I find Real's dealing with legends quite different, you know people like Giggs, Scholes, they retire with the club and never do the leaving occurs, and we are too familiar with cheap selling players at the end of their cycles

Why would people prefer a substitute Argentine over the first Spanish defender on a WC winning team sheet and a captain of one of the biggest teams in the world?

Regardless of how true these stories are, I will always cherish the memory of that own goal at Old Trafford. A fine example of giving hope to the masses only for them to be crushed subsequently after. Topped only by Evra's goal against Bayern a year later.

Not sure why people keep falling for these stories to be honest. The De Gea situation is perfect for Madrid players to either a) boost ongoing contract renewal talks, or b) drum up interest in other clubs. Agents and players know that United are going to spend big, and any mention of United interest instantly causes a stir. We've seen it happen with Müller, with Alves, with Ronaldo, and we're going to see it with Schweinsteiger too I'm sure. I await the news in a few weeks time of Ramos renewing his Madrid contract.

Because that "substitute" is a starter for Argentina, he got in the LA Liga TOTY ahead of Ramos, he's younger and more obtainable than Ramos.

I'd be very happy with any of them though.

Someone's been briefing the press. It's all over English and Spanish media, and nobody is claiming 'according to *insert dodgy source*'.

Could be his agent going for a new deal, but i doubt it would be a story about us wanting a swap, more of a story of him wanting out as per Alves...

This. People stating otherwise are just desperate for a signing. Muppet frustration is upon us

Yes. Why on earth would we want to sign one of the most decorated international defenders of all time with 125 caps for arguably the greatest international team of all time. The three time La Liga defender of the year, the five time member of the FIFA world team of the year and the four time member of the UEFA team of the year.

But yes, James McCarthy, now he is just the ticket.

Not at all. He's not a lightweight forward player.

Lol fecking Muniesa and Alderweireld were killing it for Stoke and Southampton yet you think Ramos gets bullied. No chance.

Ramos: 1,83m ; 75 kg

Vidic: 1,90m ; 87kg
Terry: 1,87m ; 90kg
Rio: 1,89 m ; 87kg
Smalling: 1,92; 81kg
Ivanović: 1,88m, 86 kg

Ana Ivanovic 1,84; 69kg (tennis player)

just saying- comapare his frame to EPL top defenders.

Fellaini, Ramos.......we should consider Vinnie Jones while at it
