If he was then do you honestly think that Real would sell him? (I think he's past his best tbh but I wouldn't say no if he was cheap enough).

Its Perez. He just sold Di Maria in his prime less than 12 months ago.

It ain't going to happen folks there's no way. He is
quoting myself again to say the same thing about this transfer

will be shocked if this transfer actually happens, ramos will get his wish - pay raise and new contract.

Agreed!

There's no way this is happening, he is next in line or there about for club captain. He is a club legend and will play out the rest of his career at the club most likely.

Otamendi is more likely folks.

If you're Sid Lowe, you don't put this to print unless you're fairly certain there is more to all of this than contract posturing. I genuinely don't know what to make of this one, but that's the second article Lowe has come out with in the space of a day. All very strange.

Madrid put the bat into batshit mental. They're all cuckoo.

Apart from @Vato. He's relatively sane.

There seems to be a notable difference in Spanish journalists vs English journalists on this one. Just like Gundogan. It's a a done deal on these shores but not remotely factual over there. I respect Sid Lowe's work greatly, really like the bloke but he is also the employee of a British newspaper selling stories to fund his wages.

Still refuse to believe it until we see them in at Old Trafford with our shirt and Louis.

There's just so many angles for this to be a well baited story. Not to mention the fact we've barely given a sniff to a newspaper post-Moyes so any direction we do give, for valid reasons or misdirection, they will jump at.

Ramos new contract
De Gea deal
Utd reasserting status
Utd - political games with existing transfer targets
Real - testing the waters for fan reaction
Real - giving hope to Varane for a first team spot regularly
Real - using misdirection while they go for their own targets
Etc
Etc

So if he is flirting for a new deal and Real doesn't want to give it to him, where can he go from here? Surely he has burned the bridges with Real?

They'll reach some sort of compromise he might not get exactly what he wants but I fully expect him to sign a new contract and get one last raise.

Don't know what to think about this. Don't want someone here who would come only for the money. Why don't we just tell Real to pay up for De Gea, give them and De Gea a deadline and say once it's past, that's it. Dave to get ready for the new season and go at the end of next season. Gives us time to find a proper replacement and then he can feck off for free to Madrid. End of story. Don't want a long protracted episode when we need to be looking at other areas as well. Really pissed with Dave. He should have just signed an extension and Real would have to pay up to get him. Now he's put us in an awful position, and possibly himself as well, as Madrid don't look that arsed about fighting for him and upping their bid (when they do bid). How can anyone want to go into that kind of situation is beyond my comprehension.

lol Ballague said that? Thought he was supposed to be 'in the know' always, well most of the time.. i guess.

That is what I expect too...Alves did it to us, Ramos must think we are an easy mark as well.
I am fed up of players using MUFC's name to extend their contracts.

It must be amazing to hear Woodie just throwing names in the phone when Madrid call for De Gea.

Perez: So Ed, what do you want for David?
Woodie: Bale, Ronaldo, Ramos, Benzema, Hugo Sanchez, Raul, Zidane.
Perez: Ed, Sanchez is 58 now.
Woodie: You bastards drive a hard bargain here.

Does feel like that.

Ramos seems a completely random one though.

He'd fit in well, and quickly give our opposition a new hate figure!

These days you just hand in a transfer request and then 12 months later become captain...

Oh look another dig at Rooney on redcafe how refreshing!!

And a prediction of Ramos' future at Madrid post-Casillas if this deal never materialises - the captaincy that is.

World Cup winner , champ league winner , la liga winner , and Madrid ever present since he got out of nappies . No brainer for me .... Sergio get ya bag ya comin wiv us pal !

So, he met with his agent (and brother) as well as a lawyer:

They have another article with a video, too.

article states he is "enraged" and they have a pic of him smiling ear to ear like a Cheshire cat

He knows full well that whatever the outcome he'll be better off from it, either he'll get a new contract with Madrid with bumper pay day (most likely) or get an even bigger pay with us.

Sergio probably read our Madrid bashing thread and obviously agreed. I mean Blatters on his way out, I suppose Madrid are losing their appeal :)

A Panenka penalty in the semifinals of Euro after what happened with Neuer proves to have a lot of personality and two balls

Could be true, at Real Madrid the longest serving player is made captain isnt it? Ramos is there for a while now and Casillas is finished in Madrid although he doesnt know it yet.

Or Chelsea, Bayern, City etc who will get involved if he ever does become available.

Why are they trying to cushion the blow? We all know he's leaving, I think we'd rather just not have to hear it being dragged out every day. If we were to get somebody like Ramos it'd be De Gea plus cash, which would look a lot worse.
Who cares if it looks worse. If we wouldn't have the chance to sign said player without De Gea going the other way, we should make it happen, regardless of the cash involved. Seriously, what does £10m-£20m really mean to us in the grander scheme of things? If De Gea is going for sure, we should try to get the best player possible in return.

I don't usually care about nonsense rumours but this is so obviously a player looking for a new contract with literally no chance of him coming here it's annoying me how much focus it's getting. They'll get De Gea, we won't get Ramos, it's a non-story. I really hope it's just to wind Madrid up a little or just to distract from who we really want, don't waste a summer on players who have no intention of coming here like we did with Fabregas.
