Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Inside Out
Really good. Warm, funny, bags of depth and emotion with a plot that has fewer holes or inconsistencies than arguably any other blockbuster this year. Despite being utterly bonkers.

So, @Gerrard in Istanbul, you were right and I was wrong. Even the trailer seems better with hindsight.

Furious 7

After the last installment when Vin Diesel caught the lesbian looking one mid-air after flying through the windshield of his car, over a bridge, following a head on collision (and there was a tank involved somehow) and landed without a scratch, I swore I'd never bother with another of these movies again. But alas, I did. Turkish, Filipino Jet Li, and Rock hard were enough to whet the appetite for some decent fights; unfortunately it was a forlorn hope. Just more flying cars, Vin Diesel wearing lifts and skipping leg day, wise cracking rappers, and ugly lesbians fighting.

Barely watchable nonsense which ended on a tear jerking tribute to Paul Walker made somewhat uncomfortable by my lingering boner for Missandei.

1/10

I score your review 0/10

Watched some pixar films. Wall-E -- 5/10. Up -- 9/10.

(had seen Up before, great. Wall-E I had just caught a bit of, not my sort of thing. Modern day Pinocchio I suppose)

I'm devastated.

Mission Impossible 5 : Rogue Nation

Yeah, I'm bragging here seen it at an advance screening, was so exciting. The movie is as expected, lots of stunts and thrill, and Rebecca Ferguson is just so charming in everything she does. Well worth the admission fee, and although there's plotholes and lots of bullshit.. well.. it's mission impossible. Tom Cruise is still charming (unpopular opinion I know)

I like Tom Cruise , watching MI 2 , now, cant wait to see MI 5.

Watched Chappie last night.

I guess I enjoyed it. Hard to tell. My rating could range from 6 to a 7 out of 10.

I saw it on Saturday aswel. It's just out now isn't it? Not advance screening? Well, in the UK anyway.

I thought it was good too. I actually thought compared to most Mission Impossible there was a lot less bullshit and crazy gadgets than normal.

Yer mental, that movie is a 6 at best and thats being generous..the writing was bad and why the feck was Ving Rhames in the movie..,,hes so out of place. And not for THAT reason. I just expected much more judging from the trailer.

It's nothing but a glorified action movie, but they never claim to be anything else. For an action movie they're indeed full of action, and I wouldn't say suspense, no action provides suspense these days, even a thriller got a happy ending. What more can one ask, the only thing that they lack is boobies, what a shame.

Although, the MI4 Burj Khalifa climbing is really breathtaking, I'm not a soft guy, but that gives me goosebump

It's 30th Jul premiere, but somehow it's 5th august in my country, so I just see the advance screening

Jupiter Ascending
Ridiculous space adventure starring Meg, Ned Stark and Magic Mike/Elf crossbreed. Sounds like it should be fun? It wasn't. What a horrible way to spend 2 hours. Just awful 2/10

Now that is a bag of shite. Actually I don't mind the Mission Impossible series (apart from the second one) they're all good in a disengage brain and enjoy the action kind of way, I watched the first one the other night and it's still entertaining enough. The second one was and still is awful though.

Glad you enjoyed it! :)

If you didn't like a movie about the inside of somebody's head, Pogue, who would?

I just watched "The Road". I'm not capable of a movie review because that has depressed the hell out of me. I think the most harrowing thing about it is the horrible feeling that humans would probably behave that way if it came to it.

Inside out - Brilliant; probably the best animated film I've seen besides Wall-e. Just when you think the film's shown everything it has to offer, it comes up with something new, and keeps it's consistency throughout the film. Personal favourite part is when they go into the parent's minds for the first time. 10/10

If you are interested in history and specially early post WW II period. I highly recommend General Nil. Breathtaking, uneasy, depressing Polish film. Better than Katyn.

Terminator Genisys: Went into the cinema expecting cliches and a boring, predictable storyline since most of the spoilers were revealed in the trailer. However, I still enjoyed the storyline and the action. Emilia Clarke also played a decent Sarah Connor. I'd give it a solid 7.5/10.

One thing I don't understand is how they're going to reportedly get another two films out of this. They seemed to close the story off nicely by the end.

Id say 1, 4, 3, 5, 2.....yea two is just a pile.

MI5:Rogue Nation

Yeah you know what you're getting with this. Ticks all the same story beats as the others (ignoring the turd that was #2) with the impossible security break in Maguffin retrieval and face mask switcheroos. There's good chemistry between Cruise & Rebecca Ferguson (who is excellent) too. Only real neg is blatant overuse of Nessun Dorma on the soundtrack which started to get on my tits way before the end.

I'd actually have them 1, 3, 5, 4 >>>> 2 as I thought Phillip Seymour Hoffman was easily the most memorable villain of the series which bumps that one up a couple of notches for me.

Bond: Spectre
Meh. I know there's so much hype around this but personally I'm not a fan of Bond as a series and this did nothing to change my opinion on it. Bond fans might like it though, I personally didn't 5/10

I really hope it's just because you don't like Bond films. I love Bond movies and can't wait to see Spectre. Daniel Craig is amazing as Bond, and really fits the Bond profile and how he was portrayed in the books.

Fantastic Four (2015)
Never been FF fan so I didn't expect much. Got worse than expected. A 90 minute "Super-Hero" movie where the heroes only start using their powers at around the 80th minute mark. Cast looked quite good when it was put together, but the result is a bunch of 30 year old actors uncomfortably portraying 18 year olds with a total lack of chemistry. The film felt like it was filmed by two different directors, which it probably was, and I'm guessing Trank had no involvement in the re shoots - I'm guessing this is most of the final third of the film, which you can tell by Kate Mara's lovely wig throughout the final act.

It needed much more time to make up for the excessive 2 thirds of pointless character development and focus more on the actual super hero aspect of the film, which you know fans of the Fantastic Four would pay to see. At least Dr. Doom made a cameo, shame it only lasted a few minutes.

:( Although this review doesn't surprise me. The trailers have been far from inspiring. It's a real shame as i'm sure a decent FF movie could be made, although i'm not sure audiences and fans will stomach yet another attempt.

I thought I'd give it a chance, I liked Trank's Chronicle so I thought it had slight potential. I actually think the previous FF movie is more "fun" than this, at least the cast felt like they wanted to be there / enjoy it.

Wouldn't surprise me if the MCU will try to get part of the rights to this now, like they did with Spider-Man, and we'll see another attempt in a few years.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation

I bloody loved it. Great action, great set-pieces (the whole Opera house thing was the highlight for me - really well put together), Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise, a storyline that actually intrigued me and, in general, it's just a whole load of fun. Soundtrack wasn't bad either.

End of Watch

Terrific film. Full of action but also heartbreaking at the same time. Gyllenhaal and Pena are excellent in the central roles and the supporting cast add a lot to the overall story. Despite my many reservations about the Suicide Squad, David Ayer shows here he can make a belter.
