I don't even want him to stay, why keep a player against his wish? Let him join Real and have players who wants to play for United instead.

As opposed to Madrid and Ramos who are quite happy him being captain? The guy does not appear to be unhappy.

But there's another part of the equation you're missing, and that's Mendes. Who knows what he's doing behind the scenes.
Very valid but I will say this about Mendes love him or hate him he is a business man and he will not cut off his nose to spite his face.
He knows that we will be looking to do business with one of his clients in the future and he is not going to tarnish that relationship either with us or Madrid.
He would probably make a lot more from a contract if DDG Signed a new one with us.

There is a huge amount in football that we as fans have no idea of the workings behind the scenes just look at the ones who are paid to report and they havent got a bleeding clue.

I respect him for keeping his mouth shut and not creating a fuss about the situation but the club (and himself of course) turned him into a world class player so I am not happy with him at all. Ethically he should leave and give the club a world record fee but his contract has 1 year left and that's all he needs to give us.

He's under contract to serve us at lest one year and is being distracted. That bugs me.

I was surprised that Hugo Lloris was a sub today. You'd think that if he were fit enough to play, he'd start.

Just a theory, but maybe the clubs had a deal that neither De Gea nor Lloris would play today because one is destined to replace the other and they didn't want to risk injury. That would make sense if United were the instigators of the deal.

Given what has happened to date, the entire situation is quite straight forward, as LVG just explained in his latest comment

- DdG wants to leave for personal and emotional reasons.
- We are only willing to sell him but only for our valuation.
- Madrid think they can force our hand into selling for less.
- I suspect the issue for Madrid is that we have said we will only sell him if we get Ramos or Bale as part of the exchange. Thats the problem for Madrid.

In the modern day context, I don't have any issues with DdG. He signed a contract with us, has done very well and more than earned his salary. He has every legal, ethical and moral right not to renew it and leave for no transfer fee at the end of this season. If don't make a fee from him, that's tough luck for us. Thats why we have legally binding contracts.

Likewise, he expressed a desire to leave a year early but as far as we know, has kept his head down and been professional. I fully understand he is in a difficult motivational situation right now: his heart is someplace else and its impossible for him to fully commit to our club right now. As LVG says, that changes as soon as the transfer window closes.

All the onus is with Madrid. I suspect he is going nowhere, will have to see out his contract and be back in our team on 2nd September. If he can establish himself as Spains No 1 by having a great season for us, then he also leaves with my best wishes.

Totally agree, never understand this argument that he owes United a massive transfer fee which doesn't really benefit him or the destination. club.

I agree with all this. I'd only add that we likewise owe him nothing more than paying him what's left of his contract - therefore, we are under no moral obligation to sell him. What is more, he is expected to focus and earn the salary that he will be paid this year (should he not get his wish to be sold to Madrid.) I can understand his mentality to an extent, but once the deadline passes, he needs to get with program and perform the way we expect.

Sounds nice but I doubt it. Maybe Lloris still isnt fit and it's only that.

not even a moderate chance

spurs don't do deals like that!
and can you imagin the fee we'll pay for Lloris? It'll be way higher than for de Gea

lloris had a wrist injury my friend

He's either committed or he's not. If a move doesn't happen then I don't see the point in playing him in any further matches, much rather play someone who has a future and can build a defensive unit with.

Why is he a sub if he's injured? That doesn't make sense... he should be watching the game in the stand then.

Lloris said in an interview to the French media he does not want to talk about a transfer to United because De Gea is there, but he's still following closely the situation. So maybe there is some truth behind all of this.

He played part of a recent game I think. He's probably fit enough to be a sub but not fit to play whole 90 minutes yet.

I agree with this. The reason people are upset with him is because they assumed he was a 'cut him open, bleeds United type'. He's not and it is clear that club allegiances do not really mean all that much to him as he is going to play for Real, even as an Atletico fan and youth player. Whilst it is annoying that he did not renew so we could get more money (as Suarez did for Liverpool) we can't really blame him as they are different people and players.

Whilst we did stick with him and help him improve; at the end of the day, he put in a lot of effort to get better and we reaped the rewards of him doing so. He was just another player who was great for us, but then moved on. He won't go down, however, as a legend like Evra, etc. who clearly felt a lot for the club.

I'd find that more convincing if he were an outfield player lacking match fitness. A damaged wrist on a goalkeeper is either healed or not healed I would have thought.

100% agree. Its worth noting that De Gea will lose a lot of personal income by having to complete his contract with us, as Madrid and ourselves would pay him considerably more if he signed a new contract with either club for this season.

As many have said before, if we refuse to see him and so Madrid is no longer an option on 2nd September, his desire to become Spain's No 1 keeper should ensure he performs to his full ability for us.

As LVG and Woodward like to spend big sums of money to prove they have huge cohonas, I have this feeling in my bones that Bale will turn up at Old Trafford on Transfer deadline day with De Gea or Ramo and loads of cash going the other way! The club has thought this through, hence the strategy we are pursuing.

Offer him to Atletico in a swap for Oblak if he wants to move back to Madrid. He's a fan of theirs isn't he?

Why do people persist in thinking that players being a "fan" of the club matters at all. He's a professional footballer, this is his job and he only has a short career.

Real will pay him 2 to 3 times as much, plus offer him a better career path. That's all there is to it. Paul Scholes didn't spend his life at Oldham

I think we need to do two things...number one, make him play. He is the best Gk on our squad by a marathon and if he's any kind of professional he will go out there and play like he's in a World Cup final. I don't care if his head is in Madrid, his body is in Manchester so it should perform admirably between the pipes until we freaking tell him not to.

And number two...make a public showing that we will not be pushed around by Madrid. I'm sick of seeing Madrid bully their way to whichever players they want every single summer. Make a statement saying that if they want him this summer it'll be 35 million and not a penny less or they can wait a year.

This is one of the best posts in the entire thread. 100% agree.

Van Gaal has said a number of times we'll only be selling him for our valuation.

Amen. People talk as if DDG were a child. He's a 24-yr old man ffs. He's fit, wants to play, and has been nothing but a consummate professional up to this point in his United career. Can't believe he's been dropped cos "his head isn't in it". Which is evidenced by a couple dodgy moments in a meaningless preseason game and possibly in training. As Allen Iverson once famously stated "I mean we talkin bout practice!"

Yeah, but wasnt the previous mantra, "we will only sell DDG, if we get Ramos". Now this is downgraded to, "we will only sell DDG, if we get a decent price".
And it doesnt help that DDG is now playing the, "my head isn't right" game.
Although we hold all the cards, I can't help but feel that Madrid are in control and that we will sell at whatever price Madrid want to give, on Sept 1st.
We will know for sure in about 21 days.

LVG did mention that DDG this year is not the same DDG as last year. That can only mean the way he is training. He was obviously told by Mendes it would happen, it hasn't, so he is in a bit of no-man's land. Mendes should tell him that it isn'the going to happen at United's price. Therefore, he knows he is here and will get his head down. Until he is told, he is going to be believing/wishing and will not be in the right frame of mind. Should not be aNY where near first 11 until it is definite he is staying,

DDG will leave before September, while Bale is very likely to remain RM player.

The only 100% confirmed information we have gotten from the club is that:

1. Real Madrid are not willing the math our evaluation of De Gea
2. De Gea has remained professional throughout the whole saga but naturally it is affecting him more or less.

Everything else are speculations. There were numerous contradicting reports that we want or specifically do not want any deal for De Gea to include Ramos.

I also have this strong strange feeling this will happen too.

Bale is the perfect player for our attacking requirements this season.
Would love him at United but if rumours are true on Benzema to Arsenal then Bale will be going no-where. Perez needs to win the fans back after the Casillas fiasco so selling Bale to us will do that, selling Benzema will infuriate the white hankies further.

The club have got themselves in a ridiculous situation with goalkeepers for whatever reason. Presently we have 4 full international keepers on books and Sam Johnstone.

So much naivety on this thread. The only transfer between real Madrid and united this summer is David going to them for peanuts.

The transfer window started off with such promise and is defending into chaos.

Marca are pretty confident that Real will get their man for much less than the 40M euros asking price, and they assume that playing the waiting game will work in their favor.
United could afford to keep De gea here for another season, but it will be at a big loss. If he goes for free, we will lose somewhere around £20 - £25M through his sale, and have to potentially pay another £25M for a replacement. All in all we could lose between £40M - £50M. I'm pretty sure there'll be some kind of compromise between both clubs before the window closes. We may end up with Keylor Navas as part of the deal.

I don't know about that, our defence looked pretty solid against Spurs.

We have to get a replacement whether he leaves this season or next so I don't get why you're calling that a 'loss'. Only difference is we'll have more time to find an adequate replacement. Madrid aren't offering 25mil... that's the problem. So what is this loss you're bemoaning? Can we afford it? Is it worth taking a dicking from Madrid or getting another year from DDG? Who I'm assuming will get his head right as soon as he knows where he stands.

Is Keylor Navas actually any good?

He has been in Spain since 2010 and has only played two full seasons. One in the second flight and the other in the top flight where he was voted best Goalie in La Liga.

I know many rate him but he has only really had two seasons where he has been a regular since he came to Europe.

Already stated that we could afford such a loss, but it could potentially be a big loss.

Possible scenario

De Gea £25M - Replacement £25M = 0

No Deg Gea -£25M - Replacement £25M = -£50M.

Madrid aren't offering 25mil, they don't want to. Once they've changed their mind you can let me know who you think we should use that 25mil on....

Is also entirely possible that scenario a could work out shite, and scenario b could result in a title and a world class keeper. Don't see the point in these scenarios...
