Given what has happened to date, the entire situation is quite straight forward, as LVG just explained in his latest comment
- DdG wants to leave for personal and emotional reasons.
- Madrid think they can force our hand into selling for less.
- We are only willing to sell him but only for our valuation.
- I suspect the issue for Madrid is that we have said we will only sell him if we get Ramos or Bale as part of the exchange. Thats the problem for Madrid.
In the modern day context, I don't have any issues with DdG. He signed a contract with us, has done very well for during his time with us and more than earned his salary. He has every legal, ethical and moral right not to renew it and leave and the end of this season. If don't make a fee from him, that's tough luck for us.
Likewise, he expressed a desire to leave a year early, and since then has kept his head down and been professional. I fully understand he is in a difficult motivational situation right now: his heart is someplace else and its impossible for him to commit himself to our club right now. As LVG says, that changes as soon as the transfer window closes.
So all the onus is with Madrid. I suspect he is going nowhere, will have to see out his contract and be back in our team on 2nd September. If he can establish himself as Spains No 1 by having a great season for us, then I wont even begrudge his free transfer at the end of the season and he can leave with my best wishes.
