More from Jose Mourinho, on BBC Sport: "It is a fake result. We were the best team by far in the second half. What they did in the first we did in the second.

"We dominated and when they feel they are in trouble, and they felt, they changed Aguero and Sterling, they try to recover control of the game is exactly when they scored the second goal. For me, completely fake.

"Their goalkeeper was good and we couldn't score. They were only coming up with long balls and even that we controlled that. Not one single problem in the second half, they had lots."

"Ten seconds of the game and Aguero was behind mydefensive line. We started immediately bad."

How can a goal be fake?
mourinho getting his excuses out early

Mourinho probably feels some pressure because City are looking good (and they are good at looking every other year in recent years), or maybe he just believes what he said. Either way, by talking that much, I'm not sure how much it helps at this stage.

Jose Mourinho tells Sky Sports John Terry was withdrawn at half-time for tactical reasons:

"It was a decision. Zouma is the fastest defender we have in the squad. I know Man City are going to play counter attack and Zouma is a different player to John and was proven right because Zouma was in complete control.

"John is a player I have total trust for, with me he was never substituted, With other managers he was not selected and people thought his Chelsea career was over.

"If a manager has the right, I do, because I gave the chance to make him what he is, a fantastic player and a fantastic captain. I was proven right.

"One point from six is better than zero and worse than two. I am okay in mathematics, multiply 36 by three and I know how much it gives, I know the championship is more than mathematically open."

What a performance. Surprised by how solid our defence has been, never had any doubt about our ability getting forward though. If we get de Bruyne to come in for Navas our side will be fantastic. My delight at seeing the bitter, game-killing shit that is Mourinho get slapped will last all the way until tomorrow.

Fake result...wow thats scraping it even for Jose.

It's just a weird phrase somewhat lost in translation. He just means the scoreline was exaggerated and if it finished 1-0 it would've been more representative of the match overall.

You definitely look stronger but not unbeatable

Of course, right now though we seem to have the confidence that other teams have yet to display. If the defence remains consistent and solid, I'd be surprised if we don't win the league, barring an injury crisis.

City stretched the hell out of Chelsea today, with Sterling and Navas hugging the touchline, which often created 2 v 1's in wide areas, with Kolarov and Sagna running riot down the flanks. Don't see enough of that nowadays, as wingers tend to roam inside to often, but when it's pulled off correctly, it really is effective.

Even that is somewhat wrong to say, city battered them in the first half and could have been 2/3 goals up. Chelsea did come back a bit early 2nd and city's goals piled up at the end. But overall the score line wasn't flattering at all. But yeah, same reason why LVG's comments are similarly scrutinised due to wrong usage of words.

Agreed to an extent, Mourinho's trying to downplay just how much more dominant City were on the whole. I think 3-0's a little flattering and 2-0 would have been a fair result, but the idea that City were the better team in the 1st half and Chelsea were better in the 2nd, and therefore they were very even...nah, not buying that.

Just one day!?

Chelsea match report looks like a communist propaganda article from North Korea.

A Ramires goal incorrectly ruled out for offside with Man City a goal ahead changed the complexion of this early-season Premier League fixture.

The Brazilian latched on to a brilliant Cesc Fabregas pass early in the second period and nudged the ball home but an errant offside flag denied us a deserved leveller.

Sergio Aguero had put the hosts ahead having already been thwarted by the excellent Asmir Begovic on three occasions, while Diego Costa had a strong shout for a first-half penalty.

We dominated after the interval and after Ramires’s goal was disallowed, Hazard drew a fine stop from Joe Hart. Two late City goals, from Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho, added some gloss to a final scoreline which did not accurately reflect the bigger picture.

Jose Mourinho was forced to make two changes to the side that started against Swansea on the opening day. Asmir Begovic replaced the suspended Thibaut Courtois while Ramires came in for the injured Oscar, allowing Willian to move infield behind Diego Costa up front. The rest of the team was unchanged from last Saturday.

Within 25 seconds of his first Chelsea start Begovic was called upon to make a telling contribution, denying Aguero who had raced clear on goal courtesy of a fine David Silva pass. It set the tone for an assured performance by the Bosnian. He confidently claimed a dangerous free-kick not long after.

We had a good claim for a penalty with eight minutes played when Diego Costa was tripped by Fernandinho inside the box following good forward-thinking play from Ramires, but Martin Atkinson shook his head.

It had been an even first quarter-of-an-hour, but in the space of 60 seconds Aguero twice brought the very best of Begovic, drilling a pair of shots low to his left. Both looked destined for the net but our keeper’s agility and strength of hand were on display for all to see, keeping the scores level.

Two left-wing crosses, one at either end, produced further scoring opportunities with not 20 minutes gone. First, Hazard picked out Matic who powered a near-post header over. Then Kolarov whipped in a low centre that found Aguero. On the stretch, he scuffed his fourth presentable chance of the game wide.

But the Premier League’s top marksman last term was to make no such mistake with his next opportunity, wriggling past Cahill inside the box before slipping his shot into the net via the inside of the post. Matic, Terry and Begovic at full stretch could do nothing to divert its route.

Kompany cynically scythed Diego Costa down to earn the game’s first booking as we immediately got back on the front foot, and indeed that set the tone for a good Chelsea spell that included Fabregas worrying Hart with a 20-yarder.

Before the break, Diego Costa was on the receiving end of a brutish aerial challenged from Fernandinho who rightly followed his skipper into the book. The striker needed treatment and a bandage, not long after Cahill required attention for a bloody nose, picked up when he collided with Begovic.

Kurt Zouma replaced Terry for the second period, which we started excellently. Ramires chested a Fabregas pass down and neatly finished past Hart but an offside flag cut the no.7’s celebrations, in front of the new South Stand at the Etihad, short. Replays showed he was onside and the goal should have stood.

Azpilicueta then looped a cross on to the top of Hart's net. On the other side of the pitch, Mangala resorted to WWE-style tactics to stop the ever-dangerous Diego Costa getting free down the right.

Not long after the hour mark passed, Mourinho introduced Juan Cuadrado for his first Premier League appearance this season.

The Chelsea pressure was mounting and the royal-blue momentum nearly paid off with 20 minutes to go. Hazard lead a rapid break and picked out Diego Costa approaching the left-hand side of the box. He carried the ball, cut inside before squaring for last year’s Player of the Year. Hazard dropped a shoulder and fired for goal, but met his match in Hart.

City proved more clinical at the other end as Kompany headed in Silva’s near-post corner, the inside of the post again benefitting the home side. Five minutes later, Fernandinho smashed a third goal from the edge of the box after the ricocheting ball ran in his path.

Diego Costa hit the post in time added on and Hart was in the right place to block Hazard’s follow-up effort. It epitomised what had been a game of very fine margins.

Good result. Chelsea will find form and will probably be very effective, so the more points they lose at the start the better. City will drop off as soon as Aguero goes down.

I'd rather Fergie put his big coat back on than get Josie

So would I but letting Sir Bobby veto Mourinho when he was probably the only one who could take over and maintain what we had was about as stupid as we've gotten.

What I took from the interview:

The question was if the scoreline was an accurate reflection of the match, he said yes if at half time City were 2 - 0 up but since it was only 1 - 0 he thinks the result was not an accurate reflection because Chelsea were better in the second half and should have at least levelled, he pointed to Pellegrini's need to bring Demichelis on for Sterling and Nasri for Navas because they were being overwhelmed, also his defensive line occupied the midfield line and City's long balls to Aguero were swept up by Zouma, Cahill and Begovic.

He also complimented Pellegrini on his tactical decision because it was the most effective thing to do in the situation and also his bravery for making the defensive switch as if he did the same he would be criticised.

My opinion:

The way he expressed himself through words was not great but he looked tired, i'm sure emotionally he was frustrated because they conceded a poor goal on the corner and as he rightly pointed out with the scoreline 1 - 0 and Chelsea controlling the match they should have made their second half control count, while I agree City deserved the victory I can see why he was frustrated and I thought he made some good points.

On defensive tactical switch when ahead:

Louis van Gaal in my opinion uses possession as a means of defence, he really attacks through a sudden change in tempo and also switching play quickly to the opposite flank, his use of Herrera has been a defensive switch to control the match and see it out, he is not criticised like Mourinho, just like Pellegrini won't, even Ferguson did the same bringing Scholes or Giggs off the bench to get control of the match so we won't concede a stupid goal.

Interested in the Liverpool game and hope they don't dismantle Bournemouth. I still think they're our biggest rival for 4th place and would hate to see them get into any rhythm.

Chelsea & Mourinho living in some sort of fantasy world if they think they were ever really in that game.

Suppose Hazard could/should have equalised but it's clutching at straws in the overall context.

This is great stuff. I do esp like '' It epitomised what had been a game of very fine margins'' and the bit that refers to the evenly matched game what was going on in the first 15mins.

To play devil's advocate, why are players getting away with number of offences before the first yellow, yet usually there seems to be an accepted norm that the second yellow only needs one more foul? The argument could be made that they're 'out of warnings' but sometimes I get the impression the ref ignores the rules as to whether the last offence is a yellow and bases it on the fact they were already on a yellow.

Persistent fouling is one of those things that warrant a yellow card so it's understandable that they only get booked after a few fouls. Unless the fouls themselves are worthy of yellow cards in themselves anyway but that's a different issue.

Pardew knows a thing or two about it himself...

Benteke hatrick and coutinho 3x assists would do my failing fantasy team a few favours.

Was just wondering that. Was supposed to be the opening weekend but Neville wasn't there so I thought they postponed it to this weekend but clearly not. Maybe after the United-liverpool game at the start of September?

Surprised Rodgers went with Lallana and Ibe over Firmino to be honest.

Don't think Firmino has had enough of a pre-season with the Copa and getting used to a new team. He can probably get a decent half an hour today if all goes well for Liverpool though.

Hoping for a Bournemouth goal to stop everyone gaining the clean sheet fantasy football points. Coutinho and Benteke not scoring would be lovely too.
