That look

I think it went against the philosophy for Rooney not to take it so in that moment LVG was probably annoyed that we then missed it.

The expression Giggs give is one of those "ya, I know" expressions.

Can someone mix a gif (i am too old for the proper lingo) of that van Gaal look with:

:D

Inevitably everyone will read way too much into this. It was a look of "that was a terrible PK", not "I shall no longer listen to anything you say Ryan Giggs", or "I told you that this Chee-Chareeto player is not part of my philosophy".

It's one of the best moments on the bench between manager and assistant ever witnessed... It's Like when Phelan poped the balloon and fergie nearly shat himself. It laughed really hard.. I'm not even sure why

I cant stop laughing.

At least LVG made the comment about him slipping, but still, that look to Giggs and Giggs is like "oh well".

Classic moment

Isn't his 'philosophy' something along the lines of "miss a penalty and you're at the back of the queue?". We'll run out of takers at the rate we're missing them...

van Gaal can hardly make that look. He's made some very strange decisions himself that had many people looking like that into their TV screens.

Oh no, the anti- Van Gaal parade has found it's way into what was meant to be a lighthearted comical thread. Get over yourselves. People getting hung up over his 'looks' now

This whole look thing aside, I think the only reason Hernandez is still here is because Giggs is a big fan. As is all the old United crew, I've heard Scholes' talking about his quality, Neville and obviously Fergie was a big fan. I think it's probably a big case of Van Gaal showing his trust in his assistant's opinion but as this probably shows, he's not particularly fond.

I think he'll be replaced by next weekend.

I took it as pertaining to a debate over who should be Rooney's backup; Giggs being a fan of Chicharito and LVG maybe leaning more towards Fellaini and the look saying "this is the guy you're backing?"

 found the whole scenario hilarious. I'm in the camp that think it was van Gaal giving the 'I told you so look' and Giggs begrudgingly accepting it. Doesn't look good for Hernandez.

Set to replace the Mick McCarthy Gif as the ultimate reaction gif. LvG was trying to burn into Giggs soul with that mad eyed stare but Giggsy handled it like Cool Hand Luke.

LvG is the guy who once showed his balls to the entire dressing room, so not really surprised by that look. I am sure Louis will not slaughter Chicha for those misses, but will instead try to cheer him up and win over.

Yeah, it could mean any number of things. They might have just been talking about how Woody needed to pull his finger out and seal the deal on some new striker, making it a "we're fecked if he messes this up" look. If anything it speaks of a good chemistry between them, communicating without words.

Could as well be about the pitch, about players who don't have a good game taking penalties, or about Rooney's decision to let him take it. Nice to see that there are no language barriers between the manager and his assistant.

To be certain, you'd have to know whether the exchange was related to a specific (penalty taking) or general issue (do we trust/persist with Hernandez).

But not encouraging for the Mexican one wouldn't have thought.

Woody might be swooping into action as we speak :wenger:

To me it reads sort of that Giggs had bigged up or recommended Hernandez play/be part of the plans or whatever and somewhat like LVG had previously given in or accepted what Giggs said or whatever.

i think way more is being made of this than it should be, there isn't some hidden message than chica is now never going to play again.

Obviously Giggs recommended Hernandez and got the LvG glare after he missed.

I have a very hard time believing the notion suggested that LvG played Hernandez based on Giggs suggestion. Hernandez is not some unknown player that Giggs brought from his Sunday five-a-side team. He's a player that's been here longer than most and scored more goals for this club than anybody bar Rooney. Think about that!

I do think LvG and Giggs are struggling for solutions to the lack of depth in the striker role, and with LvG's recent statements about how Hernandez will be one of our options, there is surely a real desire for him to perform right away. Unfortunately it was a really embarrassing penalty and if anything, LvG's look was in anticipation of the criticism he knows he will face about not bringing in another striker.
