Well he will be if Madrid doesn't cough up the money. Or you think we'll take whatever they offer us at this point?

Pretty much, by the time the window shuts De Gea will of been sat in the stands for 6 games I'm not sure how he comes back from that even with the window shut

Well if we do that we'll be enormously stupid. As for him sitting in the stands it's easy it's not as if he's not training. He shouldn't have a problem with coming back into the lineup.

David McDonnel says Real Madrid will offer £30m and we are likely to accept that.

Would make sense. At the end of the day, what do Madrid care about money - if they want their man the splash their cash. And if we get offered something not far off a record fee, we'd be mad to say no at this point.

I just wish we'd got Lloris or similar lined up, but it's not looking like we have.

I'm pretty much ready for him to do one. I know it's only 5 games in, but we have looked really solid and organised at the back, and so far he's not been missed.

Yet the club has evidently been briefing that it doesnt expect any bid from Madrid..30 mil is about 45 mil Euros, with Madrid last only willing to offer 25 mil Euros..that would be some jump...I really think we might accept such a high fee, I just dont think we will receive one..

as we know from last season De Gea is a keeper who makes the difference...

between winning La Liga or finishing 5 points behind Barca

I'm shocked Madrid have been so frugal given the money they've spent in the past and the hits they've taken on players

And has anyone noticed that its always the DDG confident that the move will go through..I remember reading two months ago that they were confident that the move would go through before the beginning of pre-season, then it was the next week, then two weeks later..then before the start of the season..Its almost like Man United do not exist in this process...I think its them simply briefing their media friends on what they want their perception to be..United have not waivered in what they have said all summer..wasnt just a day ago that Burt of the Telegraph was saying that United didnt expect the move to go through..Calm down people...Its less than a week and this will be all over..and apparently the European markets close on Monday, so we will have a conclusion soon at least.

I'm not sure we should sell him at £30m this late in the window, not confident about going into a new season with Romero and Johnstone and there is not any GK good enough available atm.

If de Gea stays he still has the euro's spot to nail, he would have to be focused for us and with him in goal he could earn us alot of vital points.

Van Gaal just last week said he would not be sold..the club would have sold had Madrid paid up, but Im not sure they will this late.

I would be surprised if we sold him so late. I don't think there is enough time to get a decent replacement.

Did he play against Ajax 2 today?

I think he will stay. We can't go in with Romero and Johnstone as our 'keepers, and it doesn't look like we have anyone else lined up.

I'm guessing he will stay since we haven't heard a peep about a replacement. The problem now will be to motivate him to play again, which is quite sad when you think about it.

That shouldn't be a problem if he wants to start for Spain at the Euros next summer.

I think I am quite happy with what I have seen this season with our back 4 and Romero. We can probably buy one good CB and stick with Romero. If we are talking realistically, I do not see us winning the title, regardless of we buying a world class keeper or not. Last season was all about consolidating and getting the team to play together. This season is about doing what we did last season, managing 4 competition together and looking to build a more solid squad for the future.

Romero is good enough to do that and I believe we should let Johnstone step up and get some game time. Cup games, CL 5th round 6th round games (if by then we have qualified and secured top spot). We have one whole season to pursue a top GK and sign him as soon as the season gets over. I don't want us getting a GK signed out of desperation in the last 3 days and then again looking to offload him next season. I think Romero is going to be a top keeper for us and he is hugely underrated by people and media. We should not forget De Gea too was for long periods of his EPL career.

I honestly think, if he stays, he will not get one game this season unless Romero is injured or hits horrible patch of form and even then i think Johnstone may get the nod over him.

It's probably a game we're playing with Madrid, pay us what we want or you'll be getting a keeper that's not played a single game for a year.

There might be a reason why Romero has been playing every game. Even if DDG is sold now we'd have a set up that we can continue, albeit not on the same level

Still think he will be sold before window shuts, don't see any other outcome, only point in keeping him for the season is if he is going to play but if his head isn't right now then I will it be right in December when speculation start again, in January when he can sign a pre contract and rest of season once he signs the pre contract.

The situation hasn't really been handled well by anyone involved and we will be the big losers financially and won't have a replacement. As well as Romero has done it has only been a few games, he has been relatively untested and he was backup at a midtable italian team for a reason.

Unless it's for the fee we want we will be stupid to sell now.

If De Gea can focus himself then he should come into the side. If not then the stands beckon.

The management trusts him to get his head right. He has dealt with this entire process very professionally - no written transfer request, no refusal to play, turning up at united matches with a smile on his face (and in the club suit). He seems like a mature person who is dealing with the situation. He wants to go, Madrid want him, United want him to stay, but are willing to sell if the right price is offered. He is also a confident guy, and will know his 'monetary value'. I am just hoping that after this window (assuming RM don't pay up) he says feck them and signs a long term contract with us. Fingers crossed.

Yep - this is what I think.

I think they will relent and offer around 25m (euros) and he'll go.

We're probably starting the season with Rooney upfront and Chicamiss as cover. I wont be surprised of anything these days

Even if Real offer 30 million now the price we pay for any other keeper at this point will have gone up as it's so close to the deadline so their increase is irrelevant.

So you think after all this, we will sell for about £15m?

I really don't see the point of keeping De Gea if he's so desperate to go and I agree that Romero has come in and pretty much earned his place - one thing about Van Gaal is he seems to be loyal to those who are loyal to him.

I think you are undervaluing what a statement this would make, RM won't come for our players easily again. We need to do this, I'd pay the 15m£ as a fee...

I don't think it will make much difference to be honest. If Madrid want someone, they will come anyway.

The best statement we can make is to win the CL and put ourselves back up there.

It depends on many things. If Madrid's keeper won't perform that well, then knives - in fact, handkerchiefs - will be in Bernabeu for Perez. Their lunatic fans won't give Perez a break cause he didn't sign De Gea. In a few years, when Madrid will want one of our players, they will think twice, especially considering that we will be quite superior to them financially.

And in that respect I think this will then show we've played this brilliantly.
At this point I'd only accept a world record for a keeper.
