Confirmed : FIFA decides 2022 World Cup dates

I am optimistic enough to hope they will be one day. And as a WORLD cup, its only right that they get a chance once they have their other issues sorted. We have to work around seasons
There's lot of countries in the WORLD that would love a World Cup. It doesn't mean they're fit to host it.

What I would like to see, is the qualifying campaign go ahead and then every single qualified team pull out.

It's obvious this whole debacle has been about bailing FIFA out after they decided the best method of awarding the World Cup was who could afford to pay the most in bribes. We were lied to about "air conditioned stadiums" so the basics of their bid have already failed. Ugh.

Anyway, assuming this happens, I imagine the football will be poor due to the conditions. I'm no doctor but surely it will take it's toll on the players, particularly nearer the end of the tournament. South American teams may have an advantage (I know they were supposed to have in Brazil but this is another level surely). If there is no issue with the fans, that should be it but I'd be surprised if the atmosphere doesn't suffer massively as people will surely be reluctant to travel there compared to Brazil, for example. This would then affect everyone who's at home watching it as well as the players.

Hopefully, the people responsible for this are all behind bars at that point (which, sadly, is not even hyperbole) and this doesn't happen. Plenty of countries (European, Brazil, USA) could host a World Cup if given a few years warning so it's not certain yet.

it wont happen.

I expect FIFA itself will cease to exist. An alternative organisation will spring up.

Don't tease me with dream scenarios like that.

What I would like to see, is the qualifying campaign go ahead and then every single qualified team pull out.

Imagine if even a few of the top players refused to compete in it. Sponsors would start to worry and that's how to hurt FIFA.

Routine is boring people, will be cool to see a world cup at winter.

Or this as long as we're doing things differently for the sake of it.

Whilst the idea of the WC being held in Qatar always was ridiculous, if it is cancelled, all those construction workers will have lost their lives in vain if it doesn't take place.

True but I'm sure the same argument has been used to justify wars long after they've stopped being 'worth it' or on a smaller scale, a gambling addict trying to win back his money.

Have a word with yourself. Why are we more entitled to a cup than the other states. If they develop football in the region, have proper infrastructure and security then weather is a horrible excuse to deny them access to what is supposed to be a global competition. By your logic, a country like India can never host the world cup because despite whatever else it does in terms of capability, and no matter how good its team gets, it is too hot there in june

Yes, because the WC has always been played in Jun/Jul and if the host cannot do it, they shouldn't be allowed to host it.

Oh please. "It's always been like this" is the worst defense in history and always used when denying someone their right to a fair system. Rule changes occur to adapt and improve systems. Basically football would have been a completely different game had we used a "but it's always been like this approach":

That's how the world is. Why is India more entitled to a World Cup than Northern Ireland or Scotland? Do you think they'll get their chance too?

International football is shite and having it in winter will ruin my enjoyment of United games.

The January 2023 transfer window is going to be an interesting one...

And as if christmas wasnt expensive and drink fuelled enough.. now we're going to spend a month leading up to christmas down the pub watching football! Horrible horrible world!!

there's just no way with a right mind that qatar has been chosen to host a world cup by an organization as big as fifa, especially the "inability" to predict this disaster coming. or rather, we all know what happened.

this schedule means the 22/23 season is guaranteed to be a mess, numerous competitions that were supposed to take place in 2023, and the summer breaks before and after.

I'm hoping major European countries are boycotting this tournament for their leagues, as unlikely as that is.

What a terribe argument. Those workers didn't die in order for us to get a World Cup. They died in work, and went in work in order to provide money for their families. Cancelling the World Cup won't make things any better or worse, people will still continue dying inQatar cause of terrible work conditions.

This.

Unpopular opinion but I like how this paves the way and sets precedent for countries like Algeria Iran and India getting the World Cup

Will never happen. They won't be able to afford the bribes.

Hosting a World Cup is not a right. Just like being paid millions of pounds to play football is not a right.

Let's host the winter olympics in Qatar too, it's not fair on countries who have no snow to never get to host the games...

Whilst we're at it, let's host the world surfing championship in Uzbekistan despite the fact they have no shoreline.

This was a mistake from day 1 in my view. Why are countries like Qatar even trying to host a world cup? What interest do they have in the game apart from money?

In my Opinion the World cup should be held in a different continent every time so the countries nominating themselves as hosts are only competing against others from the same continent.
If FIFA decide that Asia is the place for the 2022 world cup then Qatar can build a campaign but would be up against other countries from Asia.

There are tonnes of countries who have given far more to the world cup in the past that are yet to host one (but could do easily) Australia and Holland spring to mind. The world cup should visit these types of places before even thinking about Qatar.

Uzbekistan doesnt have an ocean. These countries are fit to host the cup during the winters

The problem with that is Europe and Asia have lots of countries whilst the likes of North & South America have very few (capable of hosting a WC anyway, never mind Oceana), so it makes things very unfair on Europe & Asia.

Funny thing is, it's not really snowing in Sochi, nor will it snow in Beijing.
Beijing just wanted the name as the first city to ever host both the summer and winter olympics, the games will be held hours away from the city.

The current rotation of the same continent not hosting again within 8 years kind of makes sense.

You end up with Europe and Asia every 12 years and one of the rest every 12 years.
