LC L League Cup 4th Round

Manchester United 0:0 Middlesbrough

Post-match discussion

I was entertained for once. A shambles, but entertaining none the less.

I really doubt this team is going to get anywhere near winning any silver ware. Just doesn't have the guile for it. We're a soft team to play.

Didn't vote for a MOTM. If I could I'd give some zero's.

Just let it sink in, we just lost at home to a Championship side with a strong team in the end. The only way to sum up that game is how embarrassing we have become since Fergie left.

Talk of us being top of the league by Christmas when we know our greatest chance of silverware was a shitty capital one cup that still has City in it who would probably spank us if we drew them away. We have no players or answer for a team who parks the bus and we're gonna see the same type of losses this season to bottom league teams. How the mighty have fallen.

I'll probably be told I'm over reacting but I'm honestly not even mad, reality has just sunk in of where we are as a winning team team.

Young has won one league title in his career (his only trophy) in a squad player role.

Rooney and Carrick yep, but both are finished. Neither of them has ever been a leader, but they somehow are our primary captains.
Young is an experienced, international footballer and he should have done better.

Rooney has to be dropped. Its as simple as that. I just dont get it. We are a better team without him. I would rather give Depay a chance since he is capable of doing something unlike this fat feck we have.

I honestly think our problem is LVG. I dont think he is any good at getting the best out of the players.

Watched Klopp tonight with the Liverpool players, gives off a far better feeling and shows passion. Something I feel United are missing with LVG.

Cracking match, Boro were very good and they got they luck. Was impressed with us, great to see some flair (at times) from Lingard and Pierra. It just did not go our way tonight. A bit concerned about Memphis, and nothing is happening for Rooney right now.
We should have scores but you were impressed?

We created enough tonight to win easily. It was nothing to do with "philosophy" or "playing sideways" it was down to missing at least three sitters, the ref not giving at least two penalties and the bar being rattled again.
3 chances in two hours of football against a team from a lower division. That is nowhere near creating enough to win easily. Our two best chances came in the last minute of injury time.

Horrible luck and horrible refereeing, but more importantly horrible tactics. We desperately need to start adapting our tactics based on the opposition. At the moment we seem to be going out there to pass teams to death, whoever it is. We do have pace now up front in Martial and Memphis, but it largely wasted because we allow teams all the time they need to drop back when they lose the ball.

Some of these reactions  we were missing Herrera, Mata, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Jones & Martial for most of the game, I mean the result is abysmal but let's not make it like we're suddenly back to Moyes era. Tactics were shocking though.

Not one of them even looked remotely confident when they took the penalty. Perreira and Martial always look they are going to fall asleep anytime during a game. So can't judge their facial reactions.

Ref shafted us by not giving that handball but we had our chances to win the game at the end. Despite this we were dreadful, one of the worst performances for a while.

Martial looked decent up front, glad to see that LVG tried it out. Hopefully with Rooney missing the penalty that'll be him benched and someone decent in a 10 (Herrera)

People saying Boro at home....

Leeds/Crawley/Crystal Palace.

We haven't won this cup for ages. It's a shame we're out but this happens when you play youngsters/fringe players.

Initial reaction:
Summary:

It happens and while I'm not wanting to dismiss this out of hand entirely, let's put this into context, this sort of game is better off happening today and becoming a lesson to improve and put that performance right rather than in the Prem or CL.

This, this and this but this needs to happen otherwise whats the point.

I agree Rooney shouldn't be in team just now but he wasn't the issue tonight. We played the whole game like we were 2-0 up - that was the problem. Zero urgency.

Here we go.

Really? We lost at MK Dons last year. How in the fecking hell did that help us for the rest of the season? It wont do shit because the players dont care. They get their money either way.

He could have brought two of them on instead of Rooney and Young. He chose to persist with Wayne. God help us.

Fecking penalties too. I'm amazed sometimes, how professional footballers could be so useless at such a basic part of football - hitting a ball. It's really hard to miss the goal from that distance, it really is. How does a professional do it, for feck's sake, and it's not considered an absolute shock but something almost normal. It isn't.

We should have had a penalty, but to be honest, we didn't deserve the win.

The best bit of the game was when Blind smashed it into his own net for no reason, spat me drink everywhere
 I assumed he did it on purpose when he saw the lino's flag go up. Then I saw his reaction and realised it was unintentional. feck knows how he managed that accidentally.
