His default set up is a bore draw away and a win at home. I think the underdog setting was only fully on show during this 2nd Chelsea stint. Before that, the only instance when he went fully negative beyond reason was when he got trashed 5-0 by Barca. Played Khedira and Lass Diara iirc. Inter was pretty dominant against Bayern in the '10 final and his Chelsea team of 04-07 outplayed every team in the league at home.

Since SAF retired, my outlook of football has changed quite a bit. I would have been delighted with Jose replacing SAF, but right now, not a chance.
Right after Fergie I would have said a definite yes. I was actually disappointed at the time when he didn't get the position. After all that's gone on recently it's a no.
I suppose another way I'm starting to think about it is, would an (what seems to be) unchecked meltdown and dragging of the club occur at ours with some solid personalities in the background (Woodward, Giggs, Charlton, SAF even, etc)?

What happened to all the people on here who were aggressively adamant he was destined to successfully manage United? And who'd act like tits if anyone suggested it might not actuallly be the greatest idea? I mean it was to the point that the main thing Moyes used to get stick for on here was not being Mourinho, despite there being a massive array of legitimate Moyes criticisms to choose from.

Only if it is were choice between Mourinho and someone lacking qualifications like Moyes or Giggs. Otherwise, he is too much hassle and seems unable to sustain success more than a couple of years. I had thought he might mellow upon his return to England but it seems a leopard can't change its spots.

Yeah but the reasons given are relating to him acting like a dick...but he hasn't acted like anymore of a dick in the last few months than he has at any point in the last 5 years.
This was my issue with him from the begining...imagine him and his ego at United. It'd be horrific, and what's happeing at Chelsea (i.e. ego overload/melltdown) would have likely taken a LOT less time to happen here.
It wasn't that unpredictable really (although the losing every single week is a bit extreme...and funny). He's unstable even when he's being kept in check.
Van Gaal keeps his narsicism way more under control and even he's borderline at times.
Not unless the alternative is some one like Moyes. The last few months have been shambolic for him and swayed a lot of opinions. He is a clown but at least was good at the results thing. But this time, on top of the shenanigans, results have been abysmal.
Like you said, he was always a dick, so I'm pretty sure his recent results have a lot to do with it as well. There's plenty of people who would be happy to put up with him being a dick if it meant winning trophies in exchange. Being a dick while losing however, gets old quickly.
Have never wanted him, will never want him. It's partly about the type of football he plays, even when he's got a superb team at his disposal. Chelsea showed what they could do when they really went for it in the league last season, and yet once again Mourinho didn't have the balls to do the same thing in the CL and they ended up being outplayed by inferior sides.

There was no sign at any previous club that Mourinho could manage a team down to just above the relegation places in mid-November.
He is volatile and his behaviour leaves a lot to be desired (something that never hugely bothered me either way) but every team he has ever managed has competed for the top honours.

Quite curious to those saying "recent events have changed your mind about having him as United manager"....why only recent events? Tbf, his behavior is nothing new and "recent". Yeah, it seems his just lost (most of) his dressing room for the first time I can recall, but we've known Jose to be a douche for a long, long time.

Mourinho is like the managerial version of Suarez. If he's yours, you love him, if he's not, you can't stand him. Jose has been showing a lack of class since he joined the league in 2004 but it was tolerated and even applauded in some quarters as he was winning things. Now things are going tits up, the same things that people loved him for are now being used as a stick to beat him with.

Not right now to replace LvG.. But when LvG's tenure ends, I wouldn't mind Jose as our manager.. Now that Klopp is out of question and Pep might end up at City.. I think he would be the best available manager when LvG retires..

Honestly I can't believe that anyone would want Mourinho as Manchester United manager, he is literally against everything this club believes in. My biggest issue with Mourinho is that he is always the centre of attention at whatever club he's at, it's always all about him in the media. Ask yourself how often you see stories about Chelsea and how many more are Mourinho related. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE is bigger than Manchester United and if we went with Mourinho then all that would change and we would give in to one of footballs greatest viruses.

Most of all it will be interesting to see how he recovers from this absolute meltdown, I think its just a matter of time before hes sacked from Chelsea at this rate, they don't look like recovering at all, you wonder if he'll be able to bounce back at his next job or if he's finally lost the plot for good, his mental state and antics have become increasingly unstable each passing season.

Pretty sure the results have had a part to play in that. If Chelsea were still around top of the table, a lot more people would be more lenient towards judging his behaviour which has been cnutish but nothing too different from before.
Possibly. I certainly don't watch as much of Chelsea as I do Utd. What isn't up for debate is that Mourinho is more successful.

That isn't as clear-cut as you might think. Van Gaal has won league titles everywhere he's gone. We'd be the exception to the rule were he not to win the league with us. he has also been to three champions' league finals, (2 with Ajax and 1 with Bayern) and has won it once with Ajax. Mourinho will end up being more successful, in my opinion.
His teams still play the same way they did when he first arrived in the EPL. He hasnt evolved his football, its one part of the problems he is having now. Would be pretty gutted if he ended up at Utd.

Even with all the crap that has gone at Chelsea and Real, I would still take him at United. Tactically I think he's the best manager out there and you can't agrue with his winning percentage. I would hope he would mellow with age and learn from his mistakes and that the United Board could controll him better than others have done. But than again there were people who thought they could control Hitler.
