Europa league

I'm not going to mock the OP, I can't see us beating Wolfsburg. Tonight's performance was woeful. PSV could have beaten us. After the manager's genius idea to play lead footed Fellaini in centre midfield, PSV were waltzing through our middle third at will. Louis still has not learned that Fellaini ain't got the legs for centre midfield.

If we do end up in the Europa league I'd like us to make a go of it. Given the way we are playing at the moment, how many other chances are we going to get to win a trophy?

It's not an overreaction. We need to win in Wolfsburg. I think we are out. What a shambles.

How many of you genuinely think we'll win at Wolfsburg?

Strangely I do. I think we'll do Wolfsburg quite comfortably, too.

That said, we'll get smashed once we play one of the big boys in the knockout rounds.

Very disappointing, but we were just not good enough in the group. Teams have to earn it, and we just haven't unless we get an unlikely result in Germany.

The greatest disappointment is being probably the only English side not to progress - I've been sure Arsenal would get through since they beat Bayern; Chelsea are in the easiest group of the lot of us, and City are already through. Pretty embarrassing TBH.

My approach to the Europa will be the same as it was that season under Sir Alex - fringe and youth players only, no first choice players - the league is the priority. Hopefully LVG will be of the same view, but unfortunately I think he will be like Sir Alex and decide to have a real go at it.

It's very likely we won't go through. Nothing knee-jerk about it. We either need to beat the best team in the group away from home, or we need the worst team in the group to beat PSV away.

If we lose in Germany, PSV only need to draw, as they'll go through on head to head. The odds are against us, given the form of everyone in the group.

I think we will batter Wolfsburg.

We will win the group.

Overreaction to say we'll be in the EL but we certainly play like a EL level team.

So it looks like we'll be in the Europa league. Christ on a bike.

This is not an over reaction btw, we have absolutely zero chance of beating Wolfsburg away. I can see PSV easily getting a win at home to CSKA.

Do you actually watch football? Odds are heavily against us winning but football doesn't work that way.

OK, in retrospect I shouldn't have made this thread but in my measly defence, it was right after the game ended and I let my emotions get the better of me.

However, lets look at this seriously without all the vitriol directed at me. I'm probably repeating myself here but due to the vast number of members on here I feel I have to say things repeatedly for them to be noticed. Best case, we might scrape a draw at Wolsburg. We're then relying on CSKA, who have nothing to play for, to get something away to PSV. Surely its Europa League for us isnt it?!

Why do they fight to get into the top 4 for the entire season only to serve up utter shite and potentially crash out? Why? (Second half)

Ah balls to it maybe it's no bad thing we could go out, finacially just as long as we get CL next season it'll be no big deal, it'll help us play some kids in the Europa and keep the main men for the Prem, and would you really want to face Barca or Bayern at the moment?

I'm a glass half full sort of person when it come to United, onwards and upwards.

This place is depressing sometimes. Wolfsburg was awful today and only won thanks to an own goal, they're crazy inconsistent and had few good games so far this season. Win in Wolfsburg and United is 1st in the group, hardly impossible. I'm pretty sure it'll happen.

You can't have seen much of us this season.

Whenever we need to take a game to someone we crumble.

It's infuriating that we didn't win in Moscow or today against poor opposition with the game for the taking. We drew in Moscow and lost against an (in all honesty) sub par PSV-side. What makes you think Wolfsburg, probably the toughest opponent in our group, will yield a win?

Why would you have 'zero chance of beating Wolfsburg away'?! WOLFSBURG?!

They players don't seem to remember what tempo is. What desire is. What passion is. They're just happy to pass it among themselves and pick up a paycheque while talking shite about how they gave it their all when they did not. Wolfsburg could have quite easily beat us on another day because of our stupidity. I think they deserved to win at OT to be frank. We cannot continue with this negative attitude. LVG has decisions to make. The fact is we were unlucky in PSV. I think the injury knocked us but if we cannot do better against PSV at home? Even if we play well, we'll not play the United way.

Its not good but its also not like Wolfsburg are Barca. We SHOULD be able to beat them with the right team selection.

Away with your optimism!

We have a chance, of course we do. Anyone completely writing us off are fecking idiots. That said, it is very unlikely we will win given these performances (and results) that are becoming the norm. If we drop into the Europa League, I hope we go for it and win it though.

You'd think we're going away to Barca. Tought game, but hardly the impossible.

Think we'll still make it through to the next round with a point and PSV drawing against CSKA. This thread is just a bit knee jerk so far.

On a serious note, I'd like us to give this a proper go if we drop into it. Bilbao ripped us a new one last time round. Would be great to see us win it.

The meltdown if Arsenal qualify and United are the ones that end up in Europa league...

Wolfsburg are unbeaten at home in 29 Bundesliga matches.

Not going to be easy.
Given how inconsistent Wolfsburg performs, you may get lucky and win anyway but I think a draw is most realistic, which is still sufficient for you unless PSV wins.

If Fergie was incharge, we would be quite confident of topping the group. If we feel so pessimistic about a must-win game against Wolfsburg then how confident are people about surviving the knockout round even if we get through.

Tbh, we have dragged into this hole ourselves. There is no way we should be getting only 1 point against PSV over the course of the two games against them after creating several chances and dominating the games.

Their inconsistency stems mostly from their stark difference between home and away perfomances, though. Although not every home performance was completely convincing, it still remains that Wolfsburg lost only one home game this season, which was when Bayern took them apart in the cup in the matter of 30 minutes.

It will be a tough game, especially because United will have to play to win it, but it is also not this kind of impossible challenge some posters paint it to be in their doom and gloom after this admittely very dire performance tonight.

They have to step it up, but this would also be true if they would fall down to the EL and intend to win it. As much as some posters in this thread like to mock the EL, the competition becomes actually pretty damn strong in the later KO stages, certainly stronger than the likes of PSV or CSKA.
