Nope, currently I see him at a similar level to Martial at Monaco last season, maybe not as good, who knows. He's just as talented IMO though. Arguably he's better than Lingard and Memphis.

We should really be thinking long-term. We're so far away from being contenders in Europe and while the league is gettable, it's moreso because the other teams are so weak.

If we think Embolo is a star, this is probably our only chance to acquire him. I hope we keep buying young.

I've changed my stance a bit about him coming in. Ideally we loan him out IMO. We don't have the enviroment for him to thrive. But to answer your question, either upfront with Martial on the left or on the right with Martial upfront.

That's true and it's the reason why I want him to sign for us as early as possible, similar to Martial. Together they could be devastating in a 4-4-2. But there's a lot of competition we have to deal with and it's probably best for him, if he stays until the summer. Wolfsburg have been linked the most I think. If I were his agent, I'd most likely tell him that Gladbach would be his best next move.

This may be more to the fact that their DoF, Klaus Allofs, is very chatty about the players he's interested in, and he is interested in him for a long time. Apparently he watched Embolo this weekend again and considers a bid in January, price tag is reported to be ca. €20m. I'd be surprised though if this will happen.

Loan him out as in back to Basel for the rest of the season or a longer loan spell than that? We are in a strange spot, we are being linked to players like Embolo and Sane who are exciting young talents that along with Martial, Memphis, Pereira and Lingard could provide a fantastic long term attacking core, but whether it's possible to blood that many in at once without any proven senior attacking talent and remain top 4 competitive, I'm not sure and it would be a huge gamble.

Didn't know that. Thanks. Doubt they are going to get him for that fee though. I'd be surprised, if it wasn't at least 30m.

Last summer I wanted him to sign for us and loan him out to Gladbach for a season. If we'd buy him in January, I'd loan him back to Basle until the end of the season. What follows afterwards should be decided after the Euros. It's too much speculation anyway. He could easily go somewhere else and essentially I agree that we need a more rounded player like the ones I've mentioned.

There are so many variables right now that I agree it's hard to work out what is best, he's the kind of level that is buyable in a January window but asking a 18 year old to come in mid season and change the course of our attack seems pointless for both him and us, but stranger things have happened and players like Lukaku, Griezmann and Fekir are not really January options.
 
He should stay in Basel for a couple of seasons more and then move to a Bundesliga club first. Many Swiss players go that way and it usually is the right way
 
He has the same advisor as Shaqiri (Shaqiris brother). The last move of Shaqiri was more financial wise..so that may be also the case with Embolo.
 
I'm looks quicker than Martial from the videos I've seen.

@ferguson2 is correct. He's very similar. Last season he was mostly playing as the striker, this season he's playing more on the right. I think Embolo works a bit harder defensively than Martial, while Martial's hold-up play is probably better. If you mean by mobile forward that he likes to be involved and not stay upfront like van Gaal wants it from his striker, then you could say that he's more of a mobile forward.
 
He certainly looks strong enough to play for us now. Look at him? I won't wan to get into a fight with that.

Cameroon-born Breel Embolo moved to Switzerland with his mother as a child and has become his adopted nation’s most thrilling young football player. He joined the youth set-up at FC Basel in 2010 but didn’t make his first team debut until as recently as March 2014. The next weekend he made his Swiss Super League bow and scored his first senior goal.

He hasn’t looked back.

2015 has been…

Business as usual. Apparent versatility in young players often raises concerns and suspicion but, in shifting to accommodate the more experienced Marc Janko, Embolo has found a secondary role that will do him the world of good as he works towards a future as a modern striker.

He’s often played on the right wing this season despite being more naturally suited to a traditional number nine role, but he’s proved adept at both. England supporters might remember his phenomenal backheel return on a one-two back in September but they might not recall Embolo selling Luke Shaw for a mug shortly afterwards.

He’s got tricks like that in his locker but he’s a very intelligent forward as well. His movement is good and his footwork is arguably his biggest strength. He’s good in the air and very comfortable on the ball, seeming to play at his own pace more often than not. His passing is decent and his vision for a longer pass is impressive, albeit subject to rather spottier execution.

Embolo was summed up by the only goal of the game against Young Boys in October. After defending a set piece in his own box, Embolo showed lightning pace to turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye, eventually being brought down just as he was about to burst into the Young Boys half. After the free kick was taken he played a lovely one-two and scored into the bottom corner from 20 yards. It was his fourth of the season.

Embolo can look languid but he certainly gets about the pitch. When he’s playing up front he works defenders hard and works hard defensively himself, using his speed and physique well. Links with a seemingly endless list of clubs are rooted in his obvious potential. At 18, Embolo is a Swiss champion and, now, a regular international. Having zipped through the youth ranks he made his senior debut in March, scoring his first goal in October.

What’s next?

Embolo is being managed carefully and rightly so. He’s rested every few weeks but is trusted in Basel’s biggest games. He’s started 12 of their 18 matches in the Swiss Super League in 2015/16 so far.

There are areas of his game that Embolo must work on. He can be very rash in the tackle and can count himself lucky not to have been sent off on one or two occasions this year. He also has a bit of a blindspot when it comes to being caught offside, but he’ll overcome that in time. More worrying, if he’s to play regularly on the flank, is that his all-action approach leaves gaps on his wing too often.

With EURO 2016 coming up Embolo has a great chance to further show off his ability. A good display in the summer and Basel might find themselves unable to hold onto him as long as they would have liked.

We were linked to him iirc. Well, most top clubs are so that ain't saying much.
 
Appears to be a very talented young man. His blistering pace mean he looks best when there's space to attack or on the counter attack, as can be seen in the video in the OP. I don't think our current system would be the best for him.
 
This is the kind of signing we should be looking. Similar to Martial. Instead we will continue pursuing dreams like Neymar.

On the other hand, signing 2-3 players who have such qualities will actually transform our current system, and everybody benefits from it. One of the reasons there's so little space when we play is because we don't have enough players with both pace and technical quality.

Agreed. Signing him would make almost to much sense, he can play both as a striker and on the right two positions were we are short in quality and I'm certain Basel would sell him even in January for the right price.
 
I'm not convinced Basel are interested in selling their best player yet. They are financially secure, still in Europa league competition and the player himself is settled in the city where his family live as well. Unquestionably the soon to be 19 year old will eventually move on to a bigger club but even Shaqiri didn't until he was 21

We need to be all over him quite frankly, if Basel will sell for the right price, he's got the perfect amount of skill and pace to play on the wing or upfront.
Similar signing to Martial/Memphis, he'll get plenty of playing time too.

Plus he's still an absolute beast in FM for me. :drool:
 
Can confirm. (This was just as a RW as well for my Inter side, led us to win the league in my first season and am now giving him a spell upfront)

Shaqiri's Bayern sale at £12 million was the club & Swiss Super League's richest transfer.

I just don't think they are necessarily motivated to sell atm, there's a youth transition underway at the club with fewer veterans. To sell their best asset would pin them back a bit, we'll see

No disrespect but what exactly do they expect to build? They simply don't have the money or profile to become a force in Europe and aren't they already top dogs in Switzerland? Plus I'd imagine Embolo has career goals that lie outside of the Swiss league.

So we do make these types of signings then? This criticism makes no sense.
If anything we have enough young players with potential at our club atm. We need experiance to balance it out.
A team made up of potential alone never succeeds.
