Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

The Martian - Really liked it. Funny and interesting with great visuals. Think it's fair to say Scott is a bit of a genius.

Jaws

I'm shamed to say that I have never seen Jaws until now but to be honest, I was a little disappointed, mainly because of my own expectations. Critics said it's one of the most horrifying films ever and I just didn't see how... It was definitely good, a great soundtrack, a claustrophobic story, intense action and top notch editing, however, some of the characters acted too unrealistically to the drama unfolding in the first half and just irritated me. The second half though was intense and amazing 7/10

Agree with you about Jaws. But there was one jump scare for me:

When the guy was swimming and entering the broken boat and a shark came out of nowhere

Not a genius. Just very clever and very driven.

Generally speaking, jump scares have ruined horror movies.

How does Psycho have a 'strong' female lead? She gets murdered half way through the film.

To the police.

Bridge of Spies - A decent Spielbergian affair where Tom Hanks plays Tom Hanks doing something heroic.

Going out tomorrow night and can't decide whether to go to,
Carol, Bridge of Spies or Black Mass.

anyone seen all 3? Recommendations?

It wad fairly good. Suffered from Speilbergs need to make things patriotic as shit. Also felt a bit too PG and it seemed the film wasn't too sure what it wanted to be.

Inherant Vice - More like incoherant vice. The acting was fantastic, as was the atmosphere and even the general level of film-makingHowever, the story telling was all over the place. Anderson may hay have gone for complex, but he's ended up with a bit complicated almost to the point where your mind is semi-fixated in most scenes on where the hell does this fit into the whole story? Disappointing because it could have been truly brilliant. Going with 6/10 and 2 of those points are just for Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin's performances which were brilliant, and deserved better story-telling.

This is on Sky at the moment and I'm in two minds about watching it. Quite odd really, considering I willingly sat through Jupiter Ascending.

It's not easy going. Totally agree with amol's take on it, some excellent stuff (mainly the acting), but the story is all over the place and overall it feels like a bit of a waste.

Might continue to avoid it, but I know it'll get me one day.

I've only seen Black Mass but it's really shit, so I'd avoid that one

I really wanted to like it. A good ending may have made me like it. It was just really slow. Then the ending so anti climatic. It could've been one or the other, as the acting and some of the scenes (such as Depp going at that guy giving away his family secret recipe), but the fact it was both it ended up a disappointment.
