The biggest issue is, if this was an isolated 0-0, you would say we were unlucky (as were West Ham), could've gone either way, some positives in the performance etc etc. The problem is the context, four other 0-0's in the last 8 games. Only three home goals scored in the last six. That means the knives are out before the game starts, and LVG has to know that. You can't even come out of this game and say he stuck to his philosophy, and we were solid but unimaginative up front. Because our defending was appalling, and West Ham had several gilt edged chances. He threw caution to the wind in a sort of half arsed way that left us exposed at the back but wasn't ever likely to be enough to break them down at the other end.

I don't care how potentially skillful Mata is, his laziness and refusal to be more actively involved at the top of the box results in us basically playing with 10 men. He is no winger, in fact has he ever gone down the line and crossed a ball? He does not dribble past anyone and defensively, I cant remember him winning a tackle.
I felt so sorry for Martial with respect to service because Mata is a waste of space and Lingard, at this time is just not good enough and a little selfish.
We should keep Martial and Memphis and get creative replacements for Mata and Rooney.
Our central midfield is good and our defense marshalled by Smalling and De Gea is formidable.

How much of that is coaching though? Finishing really comes down to composure and confidence. You build that by constantly recreating those situations on the training field and in matches. We create such precious few chances in games, it's easy to understand why we snap at chances.

It was lively, but the analysis suffers from a lack of context. We've only scored 3 times in 6 home games. Players aren't used to scoring, or used to taking chances. Also, 19 shots is a better trend, but a lot of those were hopeless, speculative shanks from outside the box.

I don't get all the people moaning that the game was boring. It was anything but - it could've finished 4-4 easily with that amount of chances. We created much more than them, but they had probably the clear cut ones. I'm not happy, because we didn't win, but it was an entertaining game.

There's nothing to laugh - sure we weren't awful to watch today, but let's be honest, we usually are these days. There's nothing glory hunting about it, if we aren't playing good football, what is there to watch? Football and every sport for that matter is supposed to entertain the fans. United aren't playing entertaining football for quite a while. I've been watching us just b/c I feel like it is a duty of mine, not b/c we are good to watch. Ive been saying it for weeks, there is no balance whatsoever by having Mata out on the right. We have to go Martial, Mephis and either Young or Lingaard as a front 3 against Wolfsburg.

Considering there are a lot of people calling for LvGs head, my statement is relatively mundane. I only meant that what happened with City before the game, it was a clear opportunity to make a statement. A draw would have been disappointing no matter if it was home or away.

Like I mentioned, there weren't too many positives overall, but at least the team showed a willingness to attack and showed initiative to actually go out and win the game. Last week's game was infinitely times more frustrating because United looked second best most of the game. Besides parts of the first half, United dominated the match, but they just need to be more ruthless with the finishing. That's something that comes with confidence, which would come with a solid run of results.

It wasnt a boring game at all. The problem comes that this game isnt in isolation and adds to another 0-0 in our run of games.

Saying that, again were creating a few chances we have to score (or at least hit the target) but we should also be creating more than we did. WH are a decent side but we should be winning against them at home.

What a let down

Hey, it kind of worked last year. The team's best run of form last year, which basically secured a top 4 position, correlated with a change in formation that included playing Fellaini as the furthest midfield forward.

We can't finish. In some of our games recently we haven't created much but in this game today we just could not finish.

We need better personnel. The quality of our attackers is really average and to make it worse one of our senior attackers (Mata) is out of form.

I blame LVG for leaving us with the lack of quality but I truly believe that if we had better attacking players we would be top of the league.

I thought this was one of our most exciting games we have played this season.
It was end to end stuff and reminiscent of MUFC under Fergie.
The tempo was high and almost every pass was about attempting to score a goal.
No fan could argue that we didn't attack today.
The only problem was the lack of goals.

I also noticed that Martial is nowhere near the finished product we need as our No.9. He is 19 years old and is definitely not the answer to our problems. He had several chances and fluffed every single one of them. he has great potential, but is currently not good enough for us to rely on.

I think this game highlights our problem - we know how to attack, but our finishing just isn't good enough. Buying a bit part player likes Mane is not going to solve our problem.
We need 1 striker of the absolute highest quality who knows how to finish.
LVG has also stated the above - that he only wants to buy high quality attackers (ie. Galactico standard).
Personally, I think that if we had any one of Suarez, Neymar, Muller, Ronaldo, Bale (and I'm sure there are others), we'd have finished 1 of our chances.
Relying on Martial (19 yrs old), Fellaini (not a striker), Mata (not good enough) and Depay (played for 10 mins), Lingard (very little experience) gives you the result we all saw today - 0 goals.

I do wonder if Marhez could help us. He scored 3 today, but I have a sneaky suspicion that if he came to MUFC, after a few games, his finishing would go to pot.

Change that phrase for 'premature'/'short term' or some other equivalent if you like...
