Louis Van Gaal | 2015-16 Performance Thread

Van Gaal: The verdict

  • 1) Sack him now.

  • 2) Sack him at the end of the season.

  • 3) Let him see out his contract and part ways after that.

  • 4) Extend his contract.

  • Undecided (between 1 and 2).

  • Undecided (between 2 and 3).

  • Undecided (between 3 and 4, if things improve before his contract expires, extend).

Results are only viewable after voting.
90 people voted extend his contract. Feck.
It's just people who have problems with their own conscience. They're the same people who supported Moyes.

They can't say anything negative about something they support otherwise they have to go home and sodomise themselves until the guilt passes.

Not sure I'd absolutely agree with that for the reason I previously mentioned, but certainly today wasn't entirely his fault. The problem is that we keep trying to frame these types of results as exceptions, when the reality is that they're part of a much larger, very worrying picture. It's like the oft used defence on here that "It happened in Fergie's time, too". Which is right. Except that then it was more the exception than the rule. They were part of the natural waxing and waning that every team goes through. Our current results are reflective of our style of football and, IMO, to a lesser extent, the players we have. I genuinely don't believe that it'll all 'click' and it'll be fine. This is what LVG wants, albeit with more goals.

I would be happy with consistently getting tonight's performace with more goals tbh, certainly so if the middle 40mins could be improved. Its our performances over the season even with goals that I wouldnt be able to stomach though, you watch to be entertained after all and we're dull to watch.

I don't think it'l all click either if I'm perfectly honest. I dont see Van Gaal winning a trophy in his time here at the club. I think we'l let him go end of the season if a top candidate becomes available. I do think he's laid a very solid foundation though and his tenure here will hold us in good stead even if he doesnt land a trophy. The impact would be very clear if we get Guardiola to succeed him who'd make perfect use of it.

If we play with todays intensity every game then it would be a big positive in my mind in favour of LVG. Problem is we tend to roll out this sort of peformances once a month and then revert to slow and dreary. It was last seen away at Everton.

Hard to blame this match on him. Both teams really should have scored, some of the finishing was abysmal.

He arrived when we were seventh.

Got us into the CL

Now we are in a title challenge.

They're literally all facts.
He's struggled to get the team out of the easiest group. About 7 teams are in the title challenge.

Facts

Ok and it would have been wrong sacking Moyes at this point then.

you bet first season and not to the new yr yet. with LVG it's been "hard to beat hard to watch" for much longer. FFS i'll take this side to 4th. maybe 15th. facht

We were in a title challenge at this point under Moyes only we were actually watchable.

How about that for a fact, Raf.

That's a Rafa fact alright.

At this point under Moyes, we were 9th with 7 points less than we have now. We'd scored 2 more goals but had also conceded 9 more. Stop talking dribble.

I'm beginning to turn.

Playing fellaini and mcnair at rb were poor decisions. Just Poor.

Have to admit that it's approaching the stage where I don't want him sacked, but wouldn't be too disappointed if he was.

Yeah I wouldn't sack any of those managers either.
I wouldn't.

The others haven't spent 250 Million and bored their fans to be near top. We play cowards football.

I wouldn't.

We haven't spent 250 million either. We've recouped a lot of that.

Teams like arsenal and City and Chelsea have spent millions as well.

If people are satisfied with this style of football they don't understand the clubs traditions.

They play infinitely better football. Chelsea won the Premiership just a few Months back.

Come on sults. We were anything but cowardly today.
I'm talking about just today. I fully understand we can't play great football all the time. LvG's reign has been consistently bad.

Not his fault we didn't win today.

When we don't score fans blame him for getting rid of a declining RvP and Chicharito who wished to be a starter, which he couldn't be here.

Then there is the "why did he play Fellaini and not Depay", well, Depay haven't exactly been great for us and Fellaini saved our asses a couple of times last year, he was one of our best players on the pitch today.

Also people are blaming him for not buying attacking players, but we did try to buy Bale, Muller and so on, it's not that easy when these players are at top clubs.

"But he have alot of scouts to find a bargain bla bla", finding players with the quality to play for Man Utd that are available is a tough job, but you can be sure if we had they would have been bought, like we did with Martial.

LvG isn't perfect, but people need to realise that this isn't the SAF era anymore, the quality of our attack is far from good enough and why that happened can be tracked back a long time.

This is just a small down period in a long history, if you can't deal with that then go support Barca, i heard they score lots of goals.

I don't give a damn about Chelsea.

Fair enough. You feel what you feel, you're obviously a good lad and support United and want the best. I just think that we are doing ok. A lot will become clear over the next month. Hope you're happier this time on Boxing Day.

I realised I hate him because he completely changed redcafe. I mean, there are lot of people here now who talk exactly like him and who count every decent chance as the 'clear goalscoring chance we should have scored from'. It's absolutely ridiculous, judging by van Gaal's definitions we should be scoring 3 or 4 goals per game and teams like Barcelona and Bayern are way ineffective and should probably be scoring around 12 goals per game. Because, you know, we had 4 goalscoring chances(4 shots that weren't even on target) that we all had to score because every team scores goals from every chance they have. That's how football goes.

But you just said they play 'infinitely' better than us.

Read again!

I said City and Arsenal play better football. Chelsea won the Premiership just a few Months back in reply to Twiggs questions that others have spent as well.
