Was at the game, both team had great chances, we really should have won it though. Some play was okay, still a lot of sluggishness, Fellaini appalling, atmosphere wasn't the best either.
Thought our general attacking play was actually an improvement today (no coincidence that Rooney was missing), created more chances that we have for sometime but just couldnt get the vital breakthrough.
I still support Van Gaal but thats just too many home games without a goal now - I hate hearing boos at Old Trafford (and there werent that many TBF), but I can understand the frustrations of the fans.
Big pressure on Tues now - goalless is not an option.

Completely agree. That standards have fallen so badly that even today is considered a good day is depressing. We're served up shite every week and when one week is slightly less crap then people are optimistic. We're a million miles away from where we want to be.
0-0 at home to West Ham can never really be called a good performance - but incredibly harsh to just call it 'shite'. We moved the ball much faster and created loads more openings than we have recently.
Another dull draw, still we played a bit better than we have played recently but still nowhere near good enough. Forget buying a left back in January we need a striker who knows where the goal is.
I can agree, but I think it's the poor play of the past 2 months that has led to our poor finishing the one game we create chances galore. All the stifling play has made our players rusty - they aren't used to having to shoot. It's that ridiculous now. If we continue to create chances we'll improve but with LvG it's 50/50 to return to the norm.
I can't believe people think we should've won. You all seem to forget their multitude of great chances. We could have easily been down 3-0 at halftime with never enough goals in us to claw it back. LVG riding his luck as far as I am concerned.

It is. 4 draws in a row, 3 wins then the last 3 were draws. 5 of them 0-0 (and one of them being including extra time)
I thought Winston Reid was brilliant. If him and smalling switched sides yesterday at half time you won't spot the difference.
This. I haven't read much acknowledging that we did well not to concede a couple.
We had a few decent chances, but all in, it wans't one of those 0-0 we were cruising in and just couldn't score, it was a game we were fairly lucky not to lose!
Another ref might have sent one of our players off as well. Could you imagine if Morgan went off injured and then BFS got sent off for violent conduct.
The amount of home 0-0s is a big worry. They're so rare normally, and we're racking them up like crazy

It was an ok-ish performance. We rode our luck in first half. In the 2nd, we had our chances and our lack of finishers is quite showing. LvG talked a lot of nonsense. First he said, we have no forwards like Aguero etc., which is why there was a summer window which should be used for buying, especially if you are selling the whole lot.
Next he said Utd are no CL contenders which is the last thing the players would want to hear before a do or die CL match. The players already know they lack the quality to defeat biggest teams, there was no need for LvG to drill it in.

Surely our creativity was better in this game it was just our finishing that was off.

A lot of us here and confusing our form over the last month with the actual performance against West Ham. We did deserve to win the game, but when one's eyes can't get past the 0-0 score it's easy to conclude that it was like every other performance over the last month.
It wasn't.
We looked much better without Rooney and, for me at least, it was refreshing to NOT see him on the pitch. Fellaini was the wrong man for the start in this one (or ever for United) but because injuries have depleted the squad Louis gave him the start.
Let's not overlook injuries -- Rooney, Herrera, Shaw, Rojo, Jones, Valencia and then Schneiderlin during the game. Most of these are regular starters. Herrera and Shaw in particular have been massive absences this season. One might say Rooney too, but in truth his decline has been constant over the last three seasons.
We penetrated into the West Ham box more than they did ours, but we simply lack class in beating fullbacks and we only have one finisher and he happens to be double-marked all the time. Our problems lie almost entirely in a lack of up class up front. LVG shoulders much of the blame for that, but Memphis and Rooney have to accept responsibility for their horror form this season too.
Against West Ham our real problem was in sketchy defending, which gave West Ham every one of their few chances on us. De Gea with a fumble on an easy cross, a Smalling miscue and a Blind miscue which led to a 1v1 which De Gea handled comfortable. One last chance arose, but De Gea was never going to be beaten from there. Anyone who might argue that West Ham battered us just taking the piss.

I think you need to watch the game again before you start to question people's eyesight.
We spent an hour of the game playing shit football, conceding the best chances of the game to West Ham. Then we improved a bit in the 2nd half but that was it. We were terrible as usual.
Not even sure why Fellaini is criticized. Whether people like it or not, our best bet of scoring seems with him on the pitch in an attacking position. The rest (bar Martial) are shite.
It boggles my mind how some people are seemingly igorning this fact, and just saying "oh we actually showed some attacking purpose in the game" as a blanket statement for the entire 90 minutes.
Someone in another thread did suggest that it isn't often that teams play attacking/entertaining football for a full 90 minutes... and whilst thats true, a lot of teams also don't play like brain-dead wankers for a full hour before deciding to maybe, actually, do things that might possibly win a game of football.
True and being poor going forward might have been somewhat acceptable/excused if we ever looked in control of the game which we never did and frankly don't do in any of our games. Teams are perfectly content to sit back and wait for their opportunity while we bore everyone to death. And more often than not we end up conceding the better chances.
West Ham should have won this game 2-1, 3-1, something like that. It was another crap attacking performance from United, but at this point I get too tired even wasting too much time thinking about it. It's the same shite match after match, just every once in awhile someone makes a great individual play/finish to nick the game in our favor.
Unless Wolfsburg gift us some goals, it doesn't look like we have anybody with the composure to put the ball in the net at the moment.......

It amazes me to read that we were the better team against West Ham. We were not. The hammers were happy to let us have the ball, while trying to hit us on a counter. Their chances were also much clearer than ours.

I think its debateable that they had the best 2 chances - Zarate admittedly was a sitter, but we had loads of good chances and it wasnt just in the last 30mins either.
Reid blocked goalbound efforts at point blank range from both Martial and Fellaini plus Adrian saved from Fellaini - then Martial/Mata/Lingard/Schweinsteiger all should have hit the target when they had clear openings.
That Zarate one was an absolute sitter, and the Moses one was a clear 1 vs 1... none of ours compared to those. Even the Fellaini chance (our best chance) he was under pressure and basically had to have a stab with his left foot... not like he had loads of time or anything.
The Reid block was just good play all around... good knock down from Fellaini, good control and shot from Martial and a great block from Reid. Martial did everything right in that instance in terms of getting his shot away, so really you have to chalk that up to great defending.
Yeah we should have hit the target with one of our remaining chances, but no way did any of them compare to the 1 vs. 1 opportunities that West Ham had.
Well we will have to agree to disagree on that one - either way it was crazy that this game ended 0-0 considering the quality of chances for both teams.
I actually thought Martial should have shot himself when he squared to Fellaini. Was a good move though as was the move for the Martial/Reid block plus good play leading to the Memphis cross where Martial should have scored and there was some great interplay with 3/4 one touch passes before Mata stabbed wide. We have lacked that kind of link up between our forwards and it is no coincidence that Rooney was missing IMO, if we can keep that up then the goals will come.
