Pep Guardiola at City next?

I know it's the Daily Fail, but if they really heard from 'sources close to Pep' then he'd prefer to manage us apparently. Have no clue what to believe:rolleyes:

The Telegraph also reporting it and I know Balague and Graham Hunter have also said the same in the recent past. It'll be interesting to see if the board would be willing to move Van Gaal on to get a better manager in or whether they'll just let Van Gaal see out his contract (presuming we make the top 4).

Difficult to know what to believe. We can't miss out on Guardiola though if we can get him. I'm sure something can be worked out.
My half pipe dream is that Guardiola takes over the first team in the first instance and LVG stays on in a temporary director of football role and sort out our youth programme in conjunction with Guardiola. ManUtd is too big now to just have the manager do everything. Need someone else to sort out the infrastructure for the future, whilst the other concentrates on getting the required results and improving our playing style etc etc. Having said that, I don't think LVG would go for that:lol:

What must Pellegrini be thinking?

City are the big club now. Time to accept it.

Don't be ridiculous. The millions more fans we have around the world says otherwise. The only thing we need to accept is that City are currently the better team and are in a better position. We need to get back to where we belong quickly however, before the rot truly sets in.

Unless they buy Messi that stat doesn't mean a lot.
Mourinho broke Pep mentally as their rivalry wore on, Jose really walked all over him in his last season at Barca.
That 2-1 Madrid win at the Camp Nou that tied up the league title for Madrid was a real Mourinho masterclass.

Mourinho has only beaten Pep 3 times in 15 games.

True, but Mourinho still knocked Guardiola's Barca (what people keep saying was the best team ever) off the top and ended up with him leaving as he was 'tired' or whatever.

(I'm assuming I got my timeline right, apologies if not and then just ignore my post)

Go take a lie down you hysterical woman..
Not every detail is a sign of an overarching narrative ffs.

Its this kind of attitude that has taken us to a place where City have overtaken us on the pitch.

We sat back, and got complacent, thinking it could never happen as we're the mighty Manchester United.

He must have seen our match today and probably thought aint no way im going to risk my career on that hot seat.
He would have known that before today? No? To be fair similar to Moyes having an impossible job following Ferguson, it's now in a really good position to take over - you're underachieving and any manager would surely back themselves to turn it around from here - they could come in and comfortably get you into the top 4 and start next season on the front foot.

Wild eyed panic over a tweet isnt how a club stays at the top

I still don't see it. Pep knows the score, and as much as I dislike to be on the side that bigs up United, it's better than being a bit naive (although I'm probably being naive in other ways).

In 50 years time, people will look back at Pep's career. Barcelona player, Barcelona manager, Bayern Munich manager... Man City manager? Compare that to Barcelona player, Barcelona manager, Bayern Munich manager, Man United manager.

The difference in prestige between the two clubs, regardless of current financial situations, is absolutely night and day. Perhaps I'm wrong, but Pep strikes me as the kind of guy that would prefer to lead a big club over leading a small club on steroids.

Surely it's about reading La Liga title, Bundesliga title, Premier League title - you're thinking like a fan, rather than a manager.

No. What I said has nothing to so with us getting complacent. I like many others were crying out for investment in SAF's latter years and a proper managerial appointment when he retired, but the board fecked up and got Moyes. Bad investments and decisions can cause anyone to fall behind on the pitch but to say that they are now the bigger club is just...idiotic to be blunt. If we don't get our act together though and the next generation grows up with City still being the dominant force in Manchester then we will have a problem in that regard.

I would argue that if Pep joined either Manchester club they would be favourites for the title.
Our records over the last 18 months haven't exactly set the world alight

Who knows what clubs will be considered big in 50 years? 50 years ago, Bayern played their first Bundesliga season and had the impressive trophy haul of 1 German championship in 1932 and one cup win in the mid 50's.

I would argue that if Pep joined either Manchester club they would be favourites for the title.

Probably, largely because I think he'll take some top class players with him wherever he joins; but on current squads this season, I'd back City to finish above United 9 times out of 10.

City is the only sensible choice for him. People pick the job that is the most likely to yield success, and that route is City right now. That he would be a romanticist about this choice is as fanciful as it is unlikely.

Dude, we won't be favourites for the title, simply because our players (in attack) are terrible.
You can't believe that scoring 1 goal a game is title winning form.
Sure - Pep could improve our attack, but fundamentally our attackers just aren't good enough.
Pep has previously worked with some of the best attacking units in the history of the game. Our current attack does not even come close to what Pep is used to working with.

How the feck does anyone, apart from Pep, and others very close to him, no where he's going to end up at the end of the season? I personally think that tweet is BS.

I rather the club went for someone not Mourinho if Pep slips away.

City aren't in title winning form either, our league records are very similar over the last 18 months. Ours is even better when you ignore our 3 at the back phase and building from the flat back 4 onwards.
Just because they are marginally ahead of us in the league doesn't make them this great side, Teyve lost 4 already themselves and are a great bet to lose their 5th on Monday night. Theyre dropping points left /right and centre

Pep has managed the biggest club in Germany, arguably the biggest club in Spain and i'm pretty sure he'll want to manage the biggest club in England too. If he chooses City, he will never have a chance to do that again.

Surely if you're Pep, you aren't making any decisions right now? I'd be waiting to see who of City, Chelsea and United were first; qualified for the Champions League next year and second; willing to offer him the best salary and transfer budget?
