Guardiola confirmed to City... what does this mean for us?

It says everything about how the clubs are run that City have tied up Guardiola whilst still competing for all four trophies meanwhile we labour on with LVG despite him offering relegation form, awful football and competing for one trophy*

* You shouldn't really count the Europa League given that it's a failure for us to be in it

Not exactly a surprise - this has been all but sewn up for months. Credit to City for such long term planning.

We never really had a chance- everybody chill.

Mourinho vs Pep could be fascinating next season...

When you put it like that .... :(

a big blow for you guys in my eyes. Like so many of you have said - you seem to be floundering whereas City are making progress.

Wish you guys had Klopp or Guardiola. Not sure who is really out there now??

It means absolutely nothing. This thread reminds of the neighbors. Never looking at themselves, always paying more attention to the others.

Pep going to city means 2 thing, either directly or indirectly :

1. He keeps on feeding people like me who think he has no balls and goes after team that don't require much work.
2. We still need to solve our own problems which are not solely related to the head coach.

For all of you who are in panic, let's not forget that we haven't won a title for a while, not because of Pepihno.
If we can't even challenge, do you really think the manager is the sole problem? Cuz lemme tell ya sometin, we ain getin another Sir Alex!

"OHMMHMG, we are doomed, the almighty one is going to our rivals....he is the only one true savior" - Do you even read what you write?

Klopp was still at Dortmund when SAF contacted and Pep had BM already sewn up...all about the timing!

To the Hughes thread!

On the other hand, apart form a few hacks and doom merchants on here; where do these Giggs rumours come from?

LVG has said himself that Giggs will be the next manager.

I think we are past that now. This isn't a big secret. Everyone knows Giggs is being groomed to take over as manager. It remains for the board to decide on whether or not to make him our manager next or wait longer.

I'm not questioning that the idea has at a minimum been banded around and may surely be in the clubs plans. I'm questioning the rationale you're using to support his appointment. "An ex player who deserves to get it". How many fans would have been happy to see Keane get the job after he retired? Doubt there's any now. So why should Giggs be any different?

Yeah been laughing with guys in work.
Cant belive the fatalistic forcasts of impending city rule as if pep is sauron whos found his ring.

So there's nothing concerning about the consensus best manager in the world going to the team with probably the best squad in the league? Oh and that team also have the best resources in the league. Oh and they are also our local rivals. Nothing concerning about any of that? In the meantime we are inexplicably stuck with a past it manager who is serving up the dullest football imaginable and getting shit results. Oh and our academy is also a complete mess to top it all off. I'm not sure how a United fan can look at all of this and find it something to laugh about.

Both extremes are annoying. Can't we all just be a little annoyed that he's going there but deal with it and move on?

It means nothing. Bald pompous twat joins joins a twattish club. Shocker!

The best manager in the world, in Jose Mourinho, is still available. If we get him we'll be fine.

Who just got sacked before he could get his Championship winning team relegated.

Best manager in the world ? Hmm

Finally, now we can peacefully hire Mourinho.
Hopefully so. I think taking over at City will be quite a challenge for Pep, and by no means will it result in 3 City titles in a row. I'm sure the other sites are having a good laugh at the meltdown going on here.

Ok Ed. Any condom sponsorship deals to announce?

On a positive note: The Guardiola appointment will rattle a few cages in our headquarters. I am sure that United will take this threat very seriously and will answer accordingly - not with half measure signings but world class signings.

Guardiola going to City is only really rubbing the salt in the wounds. I agree with people that we need to focus on what we are doing primarily. What we are doing right now is driving ourselves into the dirt and it's sickening. No other club with United's prestige and money would show such a disdainful lack of ambition.

Nothing. City will be his biggest challenge. Now, it helps that they are such a plastic club. His personality is questionable and I think that will show itself if City struggle. United should maybe hire Jose to counter it. I don't want to belittle Pep's achievements but it's up to us and other clubs to show that same ambition. Of course if you are city, it's all a soul less endeavor. What is the point? And in my opinion, Pep will be gone within 3-4 years.

We should just hire Jose in the summer and go on a spending spree. If the Glazers have ignored the youth or let it slide, then it's possible that is something we'll do. Ultimately we have a history to talk up as do other clubs. Some clubs try to buy buy it but it's not earnt. Any mug can over player for players...

For me, going with LVG and backing him was rationale. The results are there for everyone to see.

Because great managers never get sacked?

His first bad season in his entire career. Get a fecking grip.

Don't think he said that but the way some are responding is hilarious. Maybe it's just me who don't see this all black and white and don't see United as a complete mess or a chore these days. But hey, i'm.probably lacking ambition then.

The meltdown is understandable, a lot of posters tried to rationalize LVG's apparent safety by the hope that we were trying to sign Pep, now that Pep isn't an option we can't explain the situation.

Bring it on!
Cant wait

One of the favourites for the league, won their CL group, still in the FA Cup and in the final of the league cup... Hope we never sack a manager in that position, no matter who else is available.

What aspect of the club can you point to and say is of an acceptable standard right now? Is there any aspect of our club right now that Bayern, Madrid or Barca would stand for? These are the teams that we have similar resources and global appeal to. These are the teams that as little as 5 years ago we were roughly on par with. Imagine how Madrid would be if they were languishing below the CL places playing dire football. Imagine how Barca fans would be if La Masia was being underfunded and their head of youth development left and they didn't even bother to replace him?! It's absurd.

Even though we kind of knew he was off to City, it is very disappointing that it has happened, not just because he is the best coach in the world but also because it is a bitter reminder of the sign of the times. We consider ourselves the biggest club in the country yet it is our rivals that can attract the best manager and confirm their current superiority to ourselves. It is also a critique to our lack of long term planning from the board and Ed Woodward that we have allowed City to get one over on us here. Maybe under David Gill's leadership, we would have sussed this all out.

But when it comes to us? We really need to get a clear sense of the direction we want to take the club in rather than plodding along at the moment. I'm not savvy to what goes on behind the doors and maybe they are discussing changes. If we want our own big name manager then we have got to go for Mourinho, I don't like him anymore but if thats the direction the club wants to go down then so be it as he is the only other manager in the world that perhaps has the same pulling power that Pep does. Giggs has been the other one touted but I'd be cautious about that, with how Neville is doing at Valencia.
Outside of management, we really do need to revolutionise that facilities at the club. If City have managed to spend £200 million on building the best footballing facility in the world, we should be prepared to do the same. This was one definitely one of the main reasons as to why Pep chose City and we need to match it in order to attract the best coaches and players to the club.

On a side note, is it worth continuing on with building a possession based team?? City are undoubtably going to be the best at it now and we will look second rate compared to them if we continue in this fashion. Though we can adopt some of the principles of LVG, it will be better if the club searches for it's own identity rather than be a poor copy of our neighbours.

I hope many can relax about this, it's not the end of the world. It's not the end of Man United. By Guardiola's nature, he won't even go beyond that 3 year contract and he sure won't win 3 EPL trophies in 3years. Everyone should just calm down.

On a positive note: The Guardiola appointment will rattle a few cages in our headquarters. I am sure that United will take this threat very seriously and will answer accordingly - not with half measure signings but world class signings.
What do you base that belief on ? Pure optimism? Because there is no evidence to support it.
