Mata as our #10

Dire out there. Does nothing a #10 is supposed to do. He's been an absolute non-entity in the position, and not for the first time.

Shit wherever he plays. Luxury player, coward, all round soppy cnut.

Him and Rooney need to be booted out the door. The most un-United attacker we've had.

Fergie never bought players like these for a reason. Slow, no strength and no penetration.

Wonder what hollow words he will say on his twitter account.

I would bet my next month's wages that if Mata moves on, he'll shine - like Di Maria and Hernandez have done. The whole team is rubbish at the moment - no confidence, no direction, no leadership.

I'm no Mourinho fan, but perhaps he maybe just knew what he was doing when he sold us Mata! His first job, should he become our manager, will probably be to get rid of him again. And no one could really argue. I was really excited by his signing, but he just hasn't been good enough for us.

He has been poor recently but I can think of at least 5 names that should leaves this club before Mata. Having said that, he probably does not possess the quality to be a key player for us though.

Pretty much. He's a very clever player playing in an extremely shite team.

Earlier in the season he was our best player and leading scorer.

I think LVG is an expert at demoralising players. Mata was player of the year at Chelsea - was it twice?

I'll stand by my opinion of the past few months - the players can't play for this manager. I don't believe for one minute that Mata or any of them go out and don't intend to do their best, but there has been constant tinkering, weird substitutions, players used out of position - including Mata. How can any of them build up confidence or momentum?

This whole mess is down to a man who, if we were playing well and picking up points, would be hailed the saviour. But because we're not, then it's down to the players?

I don't buy it.

Yeah, fair point. He's screwed if Mourinho comes in though. He was a better player at Chelsea than he is now and still got booted out.

I'd keep him for another season solely based on the fact we have feck all players. Would sooner see Fellaini out the door, maybe even Herrera too.

Long term he'd definitely be screwed. Short term? Not so sure. I don't think Mourinho hated Mata to the point where he'd never use him, he just rated the likes of Hazard, Oscar and Willian more. Not sure he'll feel the same way about the likes of Depay, Herrera and Lingard. Mata might last another season depending on who we can bring in during the summer.

He was Sky's Man of the Match against Chelsea - just supports my argument that the player(s) who have previously been good, haven't lost their talent, just maybe their way.

Talent's one thing, character's another. We need the latter more than the former. Character puts you top of the league, talent puts you top 5. Maybe.

Totally redundant position, when our weak midfield clearly needs three men in it to protect the defence. Mata shouldn't be playing #10 for us. Nobody should be playing #10 for us. Yet another example of Van Gaal's philosophy being totally unsuited to the squad he has, and the needs of Man Utd.

But then playing a system that worked last season would have been completely rational, and VG doesn't do rational. He is an innovator, a mad genius, a philosopher..
